Multiferroic 0.4 mol%- MnO 2-doped 0.78 BiFeO 3–0.22 BaTiO 3 ceramics were prepared by a traditional ceramic process. The effects of doping and annealing on the dielectric and ferroelectric properties were intensively investigated. Dielectric dispersion like relaxor ferroelectrics was observed in the oxygen annealed sample, but disappeared in the vacuum annealed sample. Modification of the BiFeO 3– BaTiO 3 with MnO 2 and annealing in vacuum improved DC resistivity obviously. The spontaneous polarization, remnant polarization, and coercive field are 65.2 μC/cm2, 59.5 μC/cm2 and 21.9 kV/cm, respectively under an applied field of 35 kV/cm.

AbstractUsing hot-walled metallorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), thin fihns of lead zirconate titanate (PZT), lead titanate (PbTiO3 or PT) and bismuth titanate (Bi4Ti3O12 or BiT) were successfully prepared. For each material, titanium ethoxide (Ti(C2H5O)4) was used as the precursor for the titanium source, while lead bis-tetramethylheptadione (Pb(thd)2), zirconium tetrakistetramethylheptadione (Zr(thd)4) and triphenyl bismuth (Bi(C6H5)3) were used as sources for lead, zirconium and bismuth, respectively. Dense, specular and highly transparent films were obtained for all three materials. Deposition conditions are given for each of the materials as well as the properties of the resulting films as determined by XRD, SEM and UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometry. Ferroelectric properties are also given for the PZT and BiT films; for PZT (%Zr = 41; %Ti = 9) annealed at 600 °C, the spontaneous polarization, Ps, was 23 μC/cm2 and the coercive field, Ec, was 65 kV/cm; for BiT annealed at 550 °C, the spontaneous polarization, Ps, was 27 μC/cm2 and the coercive field, Ec, was 240 kV/cm.

Polymer ferroelectric films were prepared by dispersing TGS powder in polystyrene. Permittivity versus temperature plots exhibit a peak at around the transition temperature of TGS. The peak gets suppressed with increasing frequency and the trend continues up to microwave frequencies. We observed that the dielectric constant of films at microwave frequency stays close to the dielectric constant of polystyrene. The domain structure of TGS crystals essentially seems to affect their dielectric properties. Single domain films exhibit a higher spontaneous polarization and a higher coercive field.

In this paper, the hysteresis loop of Au/PZT/Pt/Al2O3/SiO2/Si thin films was experimentally measured in different conditions as a waveform and a DC offset, using a precision LC Radiant technology RT-66. The measurements were taken by applying a drive to the Pt bottom electrode connected to the drive of the precision LC and the Au top electrode was connected to the drive of the precision LC. The waveform was applied as wave type = sine; peak voltage = 6 V; frequency = 1 KHz and duration = 100 s. The results show that, by applying waveform and DC offset the hysteresis loop softly changes the polarization (Pr) and coercive field (Vc).

Abstract: The effect of bismuth ion substitution on the magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles was identified in this study. This method used in this study was coprecipitation method using 0.1 bismuth ion concentration. The results on hysteresis loop showed that the saturation magnetization of cobalt ferrite nanoparticles decreased with the substitution of bismuth ions, but the coercive field experienced the opposite. Saturation magnetization decreased from 57.97 to 51.19 emu / g, while coercive fields increased from 0.64 to 0.84 kOe.

Rhombohedral Pb(Zr0.70Ti0.30)O3 thin films of four different well-defined textures, namely, (100), (111), bimodal (110)/(111), and (100)/(111), were prepared by a sol-gel method. The films were characterized in terms of grain size, presence of second phases, surface roughness, columnarity of grains, and other microstructural features. The dielectric, ferroelectric, and fatigue properties were investigated, with emphasis on the hysteresis switching characteristics. Results are discussed from the reference point of the allowable spontaneous polarization directions available for the different textures. The values of coercive field, remanent and saturation polarization, and slope of the loop at the coercive field, at saturating fields can be qualitatively explained based on the texture, independent of microstructural differences. The occurrence of surface pyrochlore, however, is observed to affect the functionality of the saturation curves, particularly for the samples of bimodal texture. Shearing of the hysteresis curves of the bimodal films is also attributed to surface microstructural features. The occurrence of nonswitching 71° or 109° domains in the (111) and (110)/(111) textured films is hypothesized based on a comparison with the data from the (100) textured film. Corrected saturation polarization values agree with the spontaneous polarization values of rhombohedral PZT single crystals and published calculated values for rhombohedral PZT ceramics. The fatigue characteristics show increases in the switching component of polarization in the range 103−107 bipolar cycles, particularly for the (111) textured sample. Onset of fatigue is observed for all samples between 107 and 108 switching cycles.
