Until two or three years ago, the conventional method of getting canned, glassed, or packaged goods to market was to load them into a top-opening regular printed and slotted corrugated case. The packaging operation itself had become pretty well automated through use of drop type and push in equipment. Some had completely automated the system with automatic case openings positioning and gluing and sealing machines. By far the bulk of the packing industry was still in the semi-automatic stage of manual case opening and placing the case on the packer funnel to complete the loading cycle, prior to discharge and conveying to the gluer. The aim of this study is to discover the effect of applying SQ3R method inreading comprehension. Experimental research design is used as the research method.This research took place at SMA Nasrani 2Medan. There were 2 classes chosen as thesample with 30 students in each class. The classes were divided into two groups namelyexperimental and control group. The experimental group was taught by using SQ3Rmethod and the control group was taught by using conventional method. The instrumentused to collect the data was a set of multiple choice tests, which divided as pre test andpost test. The result of the research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The resultshowed that t-test was higher than t-table (4,23>2,00) at the level of significant 0,05with degree of freedom (df) 58. It means that hypothesis alternative (Ha) is acceptedwhich shows that SQ3R method significantly improves the student’s readingcomprehension.

The goal of the study is determination of the regularities of changes in cyclic strains and related deformation diagrams attributed to the existence of time dwells in the loading modes and imposition of additional variable stresses on them. Analysis of the obtained experimental data on the kinetics of cyclic elastoplastic deformation diagrams and their parameters revealed that in contrast to regular cyclic loading (equal in stresses), additional deformations of static and dynamic creep are developed. The results of the studys are especially relevant for assessing the cyclic strength of unique extremely loaded objects of technology, including nuclear power equipment, units of aviation and space systems, etc. The experiments were carried out on the samples of austenitic stainless steel under low-cycle loading and high temperatures of testing. Static and dynamic creep deformations arising under those loading conditions promote an increase in the range of cyclic plastic strain in each loading cycle and also stimulate an increase in the range of elastoplastic strain due to active cyclic deformation. At the same time the existence of dwells on extrema of stresses in cycles without imposition of additional variable stresses on them most strongly affects the growth of plastic strain ranges in cycles. Imposition of additional variable stresses on dwells also results in the development of creep strains, but their growth turns out to be somewhat less than in the presence of dwells without stresses imposed. The diagrams of cyclic deformation obtained in the experiments are approximated by power dependences, their kinetics being described in terms of the number of loading cycles using corresponding temperature-time functions. At the same time, it is shown that increase in the cyclic plastic deformation for cycles with dwells and imposition of additional variable stresses on them decreases low cycle fatigue life compared to regular loading without dwells at the same stress amplitudes, moreover, the higher the values of static and dynamic creep, the greater decrease in low-cycle fatigue life. This conclusion results from experimental data and analysis of conditions of damage accumulation for the considered forms of the loading cycle using the deformation criterion of reaching the limit state leading to fracture.

Abstract Body effect is the key characteristic of DRAM cell transistor. Conventional method uses a TEG structure for body effect measurement. But this measurement is not accurate, because TEG structure has only several transistors and it is located outside of the DRAM die. This paper suggests a viable method for measuring DRAM cell transistor body effect. It uses a memory test system for fast, massive, nondestructive measurement. Newly developed method can measure 100,000 DRAM cell body effects in two minute, without sample damage. The test gives one median value and 100,000 individual values of body effects. Median value of measured body effects is equal to the TEG body effect. An individual DRAM cell body effect has a correlation with the fin height.

Bahoi village is located in West Likupang District of North Minahasa Regency. It is one of the villages that is included in the conservation network of North Sulawesi Province. A marine sanctuary has been established in this village in 2003 and it has been managed by local community, known as community-based marine sanctuary management, since then, this sanctuary has been in operation. As a small community-based marine protected area with lots of users, it requires an appropriate method to determine the Core Zone that allows an effective preservation of the marine biota. This is the driving factor of this study.  The purpose of this study is to examine the processes and output of determining the core zone of a Marine Sanctuary using a conventional method and Marxan Method. The conventional method is a simple method in determining a core zone such as using manta tow technique. While Marxan, it only requires input of data such as spatial and figures to generate information for determining the core zone. After comparing the processes of these two methods in the study site, it was found that Marxan method was more effective and more accurate with lower costs than the conventional one. In addition, the final decision of the core zone depended on the outcome of the village meetings when the conventional method was applied. This long process could be avoided when Marxan method was used. Therefore, it is highly recommended to use Marxan in determining core zones© Desa Bahoi terletak di Kecamatan Likupang Barat Kabupaten Minahasa Utara. Desa ini merupakan salah satu desa yang masuk dalam jejaringan kawasan konservasi di Provinsi Sulawesi Utara. Sebuah Daerah Perlindungan Laut telah didirikan di desa ini pada tahun 2003 dan dikelolah oleh masyarakat setempat, yang dikenal sebagai pengelolaan Daerah Perlindungan Laut Berbasis Masyarakat, sejak saat itu Daerah Perlindungan Laut ini telah beroperasi. Sebagai Daerah Perlindungan Laut Berbasis Masyarakat yang kecil namun memiliki banyak pengguna, diperlukan metode tepat yang akan menentukan Zona Inti yang memungkinkan pelestarian biota laut menjadi sangat efektif. Ini adalah faktor pendorong dari penelitian. Selanjutnya, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji proses dan hasil penentuan zona inti Daerah Perlindungan Laut dengan menggunakan metode konvensional seperti survei manta tow dan marxan. Metode konvensional adalah metode sederhana dalam menentukan zona inti seperti teknik manta tow. Sedangkan marxan, hanya perlu memasukan data seperti spasial dan angka untuk menghasilkan informasi penentuan zona inti. Setelah membandingkan proses dari dua metode di lokasi penelitian, ditemukan bahwa metode marxan jauh lebih baik dari pada metode konvensional, karena lebih efektif, lebih akurat dengan biaya yang lebih rendah. Selain itu, keputusan akhir dari zona inti tergantung pada hasil rapat desa ketika metode konvensional diterapkan, proses panjang ini dapat dihindari jika metode marxan digunakan©

Two recently developed Legionella detection tests, a microbiological-immunological method based on monoclonal antibodies (carried out as a colony-blot assay) and a commercial gene-probe testkit (the EnvironAmp Legionella Kit), are compared with the standard method. The colony-blot assay is faster than the conventional method; the gene-probe test is much faster still and is the most sensitive, but in consequence is at greater risk of false-positive results.

The purpose of the study was to study the Effect of Web based instructions on achievement in Social Studies. The sample consisted of 100 students from Grade 8th of schools affiliated to C.B.S.E of Ferozepur and were randomly split into two groups-control (taught by traditional method) and experimental (taught by Web based instruction) groups. Firstly pre-test was administered on both the groups; then the students in the control group were taught by conventional method while experimental group was taught by Web based instructions. Then post-test was administrated on both the groups. The Statistical techniques were then employed to data collected and analysis and interpretation of the data was done. The result of the study implied that there exists significant difference in achievement in Social Studies based on Web based instructions and conventional method. The study also revealed that there exist significant gender differences in achievement in Social Studies with Web based instructions.

High-dimensional data recognition problem based on the Gaussian Mixture model has useful applications in many area, such as audio signal recognition, image analysis, and biological evolution. The expectation-maximization algorithm is a popular approach to the derivation of the maximum likelihood estimators of the Gaussian mixture model (GMM). An alternative solution is to adopt a generalized Bayes estimator for parameter estimation. In this study, an estimator based on the generalized Bayes approach is established. A simulation study shows that the proposed approach has a performance competitive to that of the conventional method in high-dimensional Gaussian mixture model recognition. We use a musical data example to illustrate this recognition problem. Suppose that we have audio data of a piece of music and know that the music is from one of four compositions, but we do not know exactly which composition it comes from. The generalized Bayes method shows a higher average recognition rate than the conventional method. This result shows that the generalized Bayes method is a competitor to the conventional method in this real application.
