Things are not always what they seem to be. The assigned title of this paper would seem to limit the subject to the new Adams packinghouse. Nevertheless, it is necessary to first consider the harvesting methods selected. The main reason for improving packing methods is to reduce costs, and in the fresh fruit business today opportunities for cost reduction are principally between the tree and the packinghouse. Moreover the packer has some reasonable control over his choice of field handling methods, but inside the packinghouse his choice of methods is severely limited by the policies of buyers and the lack of any combined policy on container standardization by the fresh fruit industry in general. This is particularly true in Florida as contrasted, for example, with the California citrus industry. Paper published with permission.

This study introduces content analysis as a method of examining the accountant's role. The empirical study is based on 73 advertisements, which are directed primarily at employees who are affected by the management accountant's work. The findings of the study indicate that the subject of accountancy is used particularly in connection with promises of “cost reduction.” Consequently, the majority of advertisements use the accountant stereotype of “savings personified.” In a professional context, the work ethic of the management accountant is given particular emphasis in the advertisements. He/she identifies him/herself with his/her task to the maximum degree, is regarded as loyal to his/her company and, for the most part, is well organized in his/her work. However, the characterization of the management accountant as a well disciplined company-person conflicts with the negative portrayal of his/her professional qualities. In advertisements, the management accountant is portrayed as a rather inflexible, passive, and uncreative specialist who, as a result of these qualities, often demotivates others. The personal characteristics of the management accountant are shown in a negative light. This gives him/her the unappealing image of a humorless, envious, dissociated, and ascetic corporate-person.

The Citrus Industry is always interested in finding economies, but it usually takes some stimulus to bring in new methods. The stimulus for handling fresh fruit in bulk from the field to the packing house came during the 1947–48 citrus season, when delivered-in fruit prices were exceptionally low. With grapefruit widely quoted as low as 5¢ per box on-the-tree, a tremendous amount of interest was generated in finding cheaper methods of handling. Several commercial concerns experimented with various types of bulk handling for fresh fruit by attempting, unsuccessfully, to adapt the cannery fruit systems for this purpose. Lane Late Navel (LLN) (Citrus sinensis), a late maturing orange cultivar, was evaluated for its quality and storage behaviour and compared with other sweet orange cultivars during 1972-75. Although LLN can extend the Navel season into the Valencia season, its quality deteriorates very rapidly; the juice becomes insipid due to its lower acid content and the rind re-greens, thus detracting from its appearance. It also granulates which reduces its acceptibility as fresh fruit. Granulation increases in storage and, combined with other storage disorders such as Alternaria citri, its storage period is limited to a mere six weeks at 5C. The results indicate that the cultivar offers no great benefit to the citrus industry under conditions similar to this trial.

To a citrus engineering group, refrigeration is a common-place item. However, except to those directly concerned with the subject, immediate reference to specific terms might be somewhat confusing. Since our subject is “Booster Compressors For The Citrus Industry”, it might be well to define a booster compressor. Paper published with permission.

This paper discusses the main theme the financial implications that Portuguese companies with the implementation and subsequent certification of the Quality System and respective Quality Audits. The literature review shows that companies do not publish financial results on the subject in question, making it necessary to acquire information through a questionnaire. About 126 questionnaires were sent. Our sample is however 32 validados.Pode to complete questionnaires that the top 5 overall benefits or indirect financial benefits for Portuguese companies were, respectively: improving internal organization; improving the company's image; increasing customer satisfaction; continuous improvement in customer service; improving competitive position. In terms of direct financial benefits the 3 main benefits obtained by the companies were: turnover increase; Performance (cost reduction); Increased business productivity. So it is expected to contribute to the knowledge of the impact, notably financial of Quality Management Systems and respective audits in Portuguese companies.

It is well-known that methods for handling empty cans in can plants and packing plants have been undergoing considerable change during the past few years. I know that many of you here today have been active in promoting such changes and in cooperating with the can producers to the end that the changes may be of mutual benefit. That there has been considerable progress in can handling methods is particularly true of the Florida Citrus Industry — which has used over 1-1/2 billion 6 oz. juice cans annually to pack fresh, frozen concentrated orange juice. Although thousands of scientific articles have been published on the subject of marker-assisted selection (MAS) and quantitative trait loci (QTL), the application of MAS for QTL in plant breeding has been restricted. Among the main causes for this limited use are the low accuracy of QTL mapping and the high costs of genotyping thousands of plants with tens or hundreds of molecular markers in routine breeding programs. Recently, new large-scale genotyping technologies have resulted in a cost reduction. Nevertheless, the MAS for QTL has so far been limited to selection programs using several generations per year, where phenotypic selection cannot be performed in all generations, mainly in recurrent selection programs. Methods of MAS for QTL in breeding programs using self-pollination have been developed.

Teleworking has been gaining prominence and a considerable number of adepts facing the imperatives of greater flexibility and cost reduction in the globalized Market and inconsistent in which organizations and professionals are embedded. Given this, it becomes a topic that deserves attention in the corporate and academic world because it is a multifaceted field and still little explored. The objective of this article is to analyze the senses of telework found in the magazines Você S.A. and Exame, exemplars of the popular management literature or literature pop management; identifying the words and expressions found most frequently in the publications about the theme and analyzing them as categories of meaning. The nature of this study is qualitative and exploratory, using content analysis for data treatment. The publications on teleworking were analyzed in the journals cited in the period from 2010 to 2016, demonstrating the visions commonly related to the subject and contributing to the better understanding about the telework phenomenon. From the results obtained it is possible to infer that teleworking needs attention in relation to its delimitation, conceptualization and legal regulation, in order to give more security to those involved and more credibility to the statistics and studies carried out. Although it is a subject that is conceptually and legally still being built, there is a set of pop-management publications that contribute to the construction of a more homogeneous concept of teleworking, characterizing a "monophony" and revealing the need to carry out studies that their specificities and existing gaps.
