We report results from a systematic numerical investigation of the nonlinear patterns that emerge when a slender elastic rod is deployed onto a moving substrate; a system also known as the elastic sewing machine (ESM). The discrete elastic rods (DER) method is employed to quantitatively characterize the coiling patterns, and a comprehensive classification scheme is introduced based on their Fourier spectrum. Our analysis yields physical insight on both the length scales excited by the ESM, as well as the morphology of the patterns. The coiling process is then rationalized using a reduced geometric model (GM) for the evolution of the position and orientation of the contact point between the rod and the belt, as well as the curvature of the rod near contact. This geometric description reproduces almost all of the coiling patterns of the ESM and allows us to establish a unifying bridge between our elastic problem and the analogous patterns obtained when depositing a viscous thread onto a moving surface; a well-known system known as the fluid-mechanical sewing machine (FMSM).

ABSTRACT Background: Eyelids are important structures and play a role in protecting the globe from trauma, brightness, in maintaining the integrity of tear films and moving the tears towards the lacrimal drainage system and contribute to aesthetic appearance of the face. Ophthalmic trauma is an important cause of morbidity among individuals and has also been responsible for additional cost of healthcare. Periocular trauma involving eyelids and adjacent structures has been found to have increased recently probably due to increased pace of life and increased dependence on machinery. A comprehensive classification of periocular trauma would help in stratifying these injuries as well as study outcomes. Material and Methods: This study was carried out at our institute from June 2015 to Dec 2015. We searched multiple English language databases for existing classification systems for periocular trauma. We designed a system of classification of periocular soft tissue injuries based on clinico-anatomical presentations. This classification was applied prospectively to patients presenting with periocular soft tissue injuries to our department. Results: A comprehensive classification scheme was designed consisting of five types of periocular injuries. A total of 38 eyelid injuries in 34 patients were evaluated in this study. According to the System for Peri-Ocular Trauma (SPOT) classification, Type V injuries were most common. SPOT Type II injuries were more common isolated injuries among all zones. Discussion: Classification systems are necessary in order to provide a framework in which to scientifically study the etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment of diseases in an orderly fashion. The SPOT classification has taken into account the periocular soft tissue injuries i.e., upper eyelid, lower eyelid, medial and lateral canthus injuries., based on observed clinico-anatomical patterns of eyelid injuries. Conclusion: The SPOT classification seems to be a reliable system to address eyelid injuries. This classification scheme would guide the ophthalmic and facial reconstructive surgeons to provide optimal outcomes in eyelid injuries. Based on the classification scheme and review of existing literature, an algorithm is presented to facilitate repair and reconstruction.

A linkage is partially classified by identifying those links capable of unceasing and drivable rotation and those that are not. In this paper, we examine several planar single degree-of-freedom linkages to identify all changes to the physical parameters that may alter this classification. The limits on the physical parameters that result in no change in the classification are defined by transition linkages. More rigorously, a transition linkage possesses a configuration at which the matrix defined by the derivative of the loop closure equations with respect to the joint variables loses rank. Transition linkages divide the set of all linkages into different classifications. In the simplest cases studied, transition linkage identification produces a comprehensive classification scheme. In all cases, this identification is used to alter a linkage’s physical parameters without changing its classification and produces insight into the selection of these parameters to produce a desired classification.

AbstractIn this work, we present a unified and robust classification scheme for coronaviruses based on concatenated protein clusters. This subsequently allowed us to infer the apparent “horizontal gene transfer” events via reconciliation with the corresponding gene trees, which we argue can serve as a marker for cross-host transmissions. The cases of SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 are discussed. Our study provides a possible technical route to understand how coronaviruses evolve and are transmitted to humans.

The study is devoted to a topical issue - the study of morphological and structural specifics of the functioning of phraseological units of German-language youth slang. The relevance of the research topic is due to the increased interest of the Ukrainian community in socially determined types of speech, ways and means of enriching their lexical composition. The study consisted of a continuous sample of five dictionaries of the youth language of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The task of this investigation is to study the morphological and structural characteristics of phraseological units of German-language youth slang, their thematic orientation. Young people use phraseology to attract attention, be witty, give imagery to the image, expressiveness of language, express emotions, etc. It is known that according to the degree of idiomaticity in German linguistics there are idiomatic (idioms), partially idiomatic and non-idiomatic phraseology. However, there is no single, comprehensive classification of phraseology, and the problem of classification of phraseological units has always been and is in the center of attention of phraseologists. Linguistics uses various schemes of division of phraseological units, depending on which classification criteria underlie their classification: semantic, syntactic or pragmatic. The study found that the most common group of phraseology by morphological and syntactic classification are verb phraseology. Analysis of the factual material shows that the most numerous class of phraseological units were models with the structure of the phrase "noun + verb", as well as substantive phraseological units. Almost all the phraseological units that have been the subject of our scientific research consisted of only two components, which speaks of the language economy of young people. Thematically, the phraseological units used by young people are aimed mainly at the negative characteristics of members of the youth community and their actions, but among the phraseological units can be identified and those that do not contain a negative assessment in their semantics.

Multi agent is that the broader space that is developing at a fast pace towards analysis and development of distinct vary of topics. These areas agitate numerous methodologies towards the agent style and comprehensive classification theme. During this paper we tend to establish major mode aspects of software package agents, then provides an summary of existing ontologies, and combines the most effective aspects of those themes to propose a brand new classification scheme. So as an instance the classifications, the JACK Intelligent Agents design is delineate within the context of the theme.

Introduced over 20 y ago, IACUCs undertaking postapproval monitoring (PAM) of animal research procedures as a means to ensure researcher compliance is now widely used as an oversight tool in laboratory animal research. Through a literature review evaluating the history of PAM in the United States, discussions of controversy surrounding PAM activities, and reflections on how PAM activities are described within the IACUC community, we present an up-to-date and comprehensive classification system for PAM program methodologies that could serve to standardize how such activities are characterized in IACUC policies, communicated to research staff, used in training programs, implemented for the desired impact by individuals involved in animal research oversight, and referenced by regulatory agencies.

This study evaluated the performance of three permanent vehicle classification stations on freeways against concurrent video-based ground truth. All stations had dual loop detectors and a piezoelectric sensor in each lane, which together provided axle-based and length-based classification. Evaluation was done at individual, per vehicle resolution for each vehicle that passed during the study periods (more than 18,000 vehicles in uncongested conditions). Although the stations exhibited good performance overall (97% correct), the performance for trucks was poor; for example, only 60% of the single-unit trucks (SUTs) were correctly classified. All observed errors were diagnosed. Some errors could be fixed quickly, and others could not. Data from one site were used to revise the classifier to solve almost all fixable errors, and then performance at another location was tested. A chronic error found in the research was intrinsic to the vehicle fleet and may be impossible to correct with existing sensors: the shorter SUTs have a length range and axle spacing range that overlap those of passenger vehicles. Depending on calibration, SUTs may be counted as passenger vehicles or vice versa. Such errors should be expected at most classification stations. All subsequent uses of the classification data must accommodate this unavoidable blurring error. Because of the blurring, the axle classification station cannot be uncritically used to calibrate the boundary between passenger vehicles and SUTs for length-based classification stations, because unavoidable errors in axle-based classification would be amplified in the length-based classification scheme.

The purpose of this paper is to advocate the creation of a legislative drafting manual that would suit the needs of all those concerned with the legislative process. The order and editing of the Manual are examined in two successive parts. The proposed Manual outlines an editing, conservation and retrieval method. A comprehensive classification scheme would cover all steps, all aspects and all fields of legislation. An editor / coordinator would assure control and follow-up on the Manual which would be published in parts, through a Bulletin. The classification scheme would allow users to classify all sections or parts according to their needs.
