A measurement system for nonintrusive monitoring of rotating blade vibration in turbomachines based on fiber optic sensors is presented. The design of the whole system is discussed; the development of special purpose sensors, their interfacing to the data acquisition system, and the signal processing are outlined. The processing algorithms are tested by software simulation for several possible blade vibrations. Experimental tests performed on different bladed rotors are presented. Results are compared to simultaneous strain gage measurements.

Wind turbine (WT) blade is one of the most important components in WTs, as it is the key component for receiving wind energy and has direct influence on WT operation stability. As the size of modern turbine blade increases, condition monitoring and maintenance of blades become more important. Strain detection is one of the most effective methods to monitor blade conditions. In this paper, a distributed fiber-optic strain sensor is used for blade monitoring. Preliminary experimental tests have been carried out over a 14 m long WT composite blade, demonstrating the possibility of performing distributed strain and vibration measurements.

ABSTRACTIt is possible to monitor the initiation and progress of various mechanical or environmentally induced perturbations in concrete elements by way of fully integrated optical fiber sensors. Geometric adaptability and ease by which optical fibers can be embedded within concrete elements has led to the development of a number of innovative applications for concrete elements. This article is intended for a brief introduction into the theories, principles, and applications of fiber optic sensors as they pertain to applications in concrete.. However, due to the fact that the transduction mechanism in optical fibers is invariant of the materials employed, the principles introduced here also correspond to other structural materials. The only application related differences among various materials pertain to sensitivity and choice of optical fiber sensor types.

Abstract In this article the design and manufacture of the innovative MR rotary brake based on peristaltic pump inspired by the concept model of the pliers and the Rochester Pean forceps are presented . For the calculation and analysis of created structure comprehensive of roller, housing and pliers, simulations concerning the stress and strain are conducted to investigate the deformation and possible failure of part or assembly. Experimental tests including measurements of compression force and magnetic field were conducted to evaluate the performance of proposed designed MR rotary brake based on peristaltic pump system constituted by tube containing MR fluid and pliers with arm responsible of the movement and arm completely hold on bench vise
