CRISTAL-ITE: a single-crystal X-ray diffractometer scale model for scientific dissemination

This article presents the design and manufacture of an automated scale model of a four-circle single-crystal X-ray diffractometer that can be used for scientific dissemination. The purpose of this device is to reach out to the wider public and students to introduce them in an entertaining way to one of the laboratory apparatuses to which they do not usually have access, to talk to them about crystallography in the broadest sense, to develop concepts in various fields of science and technology, and to initiate interest and discussions. The main technical aspects of the project are described, with the expectation that such an approach could be useful to anyone involved in scientific dissemination and could be developed for other laboratory equipment and other disciplines. This kind of device can also be the subject of scientific and technological projects in close collaboration with educational institutions.

Ultra-Compact Eddy Current Transducer for Corrosion Defect Search in Steel Pipes

This research is devoted to the application of non-destructive testing methods for detecting defects of the internal structure of the material in steel pipelines. Despite the use of modern approaches to the design and manufacture of pipelines, which make it possible to lay a significant margin of safety in the created system, the task of developing new approaches to measuring the technical and operational characteristics and parameters of steel parts using software and hardware complexes for non-destructive testing does not lose its relevance. The paper presents the results of the development of defect detection system aimed at detecting damage of the structure of the material with a diameter of 0.2 mm and located at a depth of up to 2 mm. The proposed system is based on the physical principles of the influence of the existing defect on the value of the transformer voltage, which is induced in the measurement circuit of the sensor built on eddy current effects. The focus of the research is the relationship between the linear dimensions of the defect, its location and the generated voltage indications of the developed sensor. Also, within the framework of the study, the results of processing and analysis of the data collected by the defect detection system are presented, the result of which was the determination of the parameters of the detected defects.

A Preliminary Study on the Design of C-Section Props

A cesarean section (c-section) is a surgical procedure aimed to deliver a baby by opening the abdominal wall and uterus. Now, c-section is one of the choices that are often chosen by mothers when giving birth. The knowledge and skills of c-section are important in education that focuses on obstetrics and obstetrics, especially for prospective specialist doctors taking the title of Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology (SpOG). Residents are required to be able to understand the procedure of c-section both in theory and practice. To train and improve c-section skills, one of the methods used is to use c-section props. This study aims to design and manufacture c-section props that resemble actual conditions and can be used repeatedly. The cesarean section props consist of three main parts, namely the abdominal body, the uterus, and the synthetic skin layer of the abdomen. The product master uses 3D printer results with PLA filament material. The props are made of RTV-48 silicone rubber and Polyurethane Foam with a mold made of fiberglass composite using the Hand Lay-UP method. The c-section props produced can provide an overview of the general cesarean surgery procedure.

Design and Construction of an ALD Reactor by Growth of Al2O3 Nanostructure Films

Objective: This project focuses on designing, building and commissioning work the atomic layer deposition (ALD) reactor for Al2O3 ultrathin film, which it will be contain specific components and a system's own control unit. Methodology: The ALD reactor was designed under a system to minimize components, flow lines and connections; to reduce manufacturing costs, volume of precursors, among others. Currently, ALD reactors are expensive to sell, maintain and replace parts. The design and manufacture of the ALD reactor manufactured at the University of Sonora (UNISON) is based on the state art with sequential binary reactions of the precursors, for the proposal for the manufacture of solar cells. Contribution: It was possible to build and commission the ALD reactor for the deposition of ultra-thin films, with the characteristics of being reproducible and scalable, which makes it attractive for commercialization. The homemade ALD reactor at UNISON is considered a very interesting equipment for the semiconductor research area, since it is possible to combine different types of materials in the form of films such as oxides and nitrides in the order of Angstroms (Ǻ).

Design, Manufacture and Experimental Characterization of Magnetorheological Rotary Brake Based on an Peristaltic Pump System

In this article the design and manufacture of the innovative MR rotary brake based on peristaltic pump inspired by the concept model of the pliers and the Rochester Pean forceps are presented . For the calculation and analysis of created structure comprehensive of roller, housing and pliers, simulations concerning the stress and strain are conducted to investigate the deformation and possible failure of part or assembly. Experimental tests including measurements of compression force and magnetic field were conducted to evaluate the performance of proposed designed MR rotary brake based on peristaltic pump system constituted by tube containing MR fluid and pliers with arm responsible of the movement and arm completely hold on bench vise

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND WAYS OF DUMP CARS UPGRADING FOR INDUSTRIAL TRANSPORT

The article deals with the models of dump cars, which form the basis of a modern fleet of industrial railway transport. The design features of dump cars used for transportation and automated unloading of coal ore, soil, sand, gravel and other similar goods at domestic industrial enterprises are presented. Models of modern dump cars of domestic production for industrial railway transport, which were created and put into serial production during the last ten years, are given. The main existing requirements to design and manufacture of dump cars are determined. The results of comparative analysis of technical characteristics of dump cars of the last generation up to modern models of dump cars showed that one of the main advantages of the latter is to improve the strength and reliability of individual components and systems. The main focus of design upgrading of modern models of dump cars of domestic production for industrial railway transport is determined. The technical requirements for dump cars of the next generation, which are planned to be created and introduced into serial production in 2022-2026 for operation on the railway tracks of industrial enterprises, are proposed. Technical requirements are based on the results of the design studies of the present-day dump cars for industrial applications, review of technical and design documentation for these cars, and also the analysis of requirements and wishes of customers. The necessity for relevant research and development works of dump cars of the new generation for industrial railway transport is substantiated. The materials of the article will contribute to the construction of new models of dump cars for industrial railway transport and total upgrading of existing models, as well as improving the efficiency of their operation. Sensor Ball: Modernized Logging

The latest development in the electronics and manufacturing industry has enabled work towards the modernization of oil-field instruments. As a part of this trend, it is the time to invent and design small size oil-field instruments that could be much more practical to handle, easy to use, and less costly. High temperatures and pressures of the downhole environment make it very challenging to design and further develop such downhole instruments. To create such apparatuses, a thorough study of downhole conditions needs to be done upfront. This study will further help to define the design specifications and requirements. By targeting liquid wells in Saudi Arabia, we have overcome the challenges posed by the harsh downhole environment and managed to design and manufacture a hand-held device called ‘Sensor Ball’ and tested it in the field.
