In this paper, the problem and analysis method of underwater storage tanks resting on a horizontal seabed is presented under stochastic earthquake loading. The tank is axisymmetrical and has a flexible wall/roof. The finite element method is used for the response solution. A solid axisymmetrical finite element has been formulated to idealize the tank whereas an axisymmetrical fluid element is used for the idealization of the fluid domain. The Eulerian formulation of the fluid system is used to calculate the interactive water pressure acting on the tank during the free motion of the tank and earthquake motion. For the response calculation, the modal analysis technique is used with a special algorithm to obtain natural frequencies of the water-structure coupled system. For the stochastic description of the earthquake loading, the modified Kanai–Tajimi earthquake spectrum is used. Finally, the analysis method presented in the paper is demonstrated by an example.

The purpose of this study was to determinate , using the Finite Element Analysis Method, the mechanical stress in a solid body , temporary molar restored with the self-curing GC material. The originality of our study consisted in using an accurate structural model and applying a concentrated force and a uniformly distributed pressure. Molar structure was meshed in a Solid Type 45 and the output data were obtained using the ANSYS software. The practical predictions can be made about the behavior of different restorations materials.

A method for dynamic analysis of flexible bladed-disk/shaft coupled systems is presented in this paper. Being independant substructures first, the rigid-disk/shaft and each of the bladed-disk assemblies are analyzed separately in a centrifugal force field by means of the finite element method. Then through a modal synthesis approach the equation of motion for the integral system is derived. In the vibration analysis of the rotating bladed-disk substructure, the geometrically nonlinear deformation is taken into account and the rotationally periodic symmetry is utilized to condense the degrees of freedom into one sector. The final equation of motion for the coupled system involves the degrees of freedom of the shaft and those of only one sector of each of the bladed-disks, thereby reducing the computer storage. Some computational and experimental results are given.

Based on the characteristics of frequent land subsidence events caused by groundwater level fluctuation in coastal cities in China and studying on the quaternary sedimentary soft clay in Shanghai, the effects of groundwater level fluctuation on the deformation of soft clay is simulated by Geo-Studio finite element software. It has summarized the law of deformation, effective stress with the change of groundwater level fluctuation, especially the process of dissipation of pore water pressure with the groundwater level fluctuation. The low can be sued as a reference for similar engineering and land subsidence prevention.

Local structural problems in ships are generally the result of stress concentrations in structural details. The intent of this paper is to show that costly repairs and lay-up time of a vessel can often be prevented, if these problem areas are recognized and investigated in the design stages. Such investigations can be performed for minimal labor and computer costs by using finite-element analysis techniques. Practical procedures for analyzing structural details are presented, including discussions of the results and the analysis costs expended. It is shown that the application of the finite-element analysis technique can be economically employed in the investigation of structural details.

Simulation of deep indentation, and the associated pile-up effects, requires a robust and accurate finite element model capable of naturally handling the large deformations present. This work successfully demonstrates that the Eulerian formulation is capable of accurately reproducing the forces and general material response of deep indentation. It was found that, in the absence of friction, sink-in dominates at indentation depths less than 1.1% of the indenter radius, there is a transition from sink-in to pile-up from 1.1% to 2.3% of the indenter radius, and pile-up is fully developed at indentation depths larger than 13.2% of the indenter radius for the 4340 steel workpiece and the 0.508 mm radius indenter presented in this work. Friction tended to marginally increase the sink-in and transition depths as well as reduce the material height at the onset of fully developed pile-up due to a reduction in the tensile radial strain directly under the indenter.
