This study examined mathematics and science performance of students who frequently, sometimes or never spoke Persian at home. The data were obtained from 1914 Iranian fourth–grade students who participated in TIMSS 2003. One–way ANOVA and Kruskal–Wallis statistical tests were used to analyze the data. The results showed mathematics and science performance differs significantly among students who frequently, sometimes or never spoke Persian at home. Students who frequently spoke Persian achieved higher scores in both subjects than those who sometimes or never spoke the language at home. In addition, students who sometimes spoke Persian achieved higher scores in both subjects than those who never spoke it. Furthermore, the results indicated that having access to home educational resources, doing homework on mathematics and science, students’ self–confidence in learning mathematics and science were significantly different among the three groups and the differences were in favour of students who frequently and sometimes spoke Persian respectively. This study, which used a sample of 137,346 students from thirty three countries that participated in the TIMSS 2003 project in the eighth grade, examined the features of the individual and collective relations of three dimensions of mathematics attitude to mathematics achievement (MA), searching for the dimension mostly related to that achievement. The three dimensions of mathematics attitude were self-confidence in learning mathematics (SCLM), liking mathematics (LM) and usefulness of mathematics (UM). By utilizing psychometrically valid and reliable measures of the three dimensions, it was found that: (1) each dimension of mathematics attitude alone was positively related to MA for almost all thirty three countries; (2) SCLM was primarily related to MA for thirty one countries; (3) when the two other dimensions were held constant, SCLM was positively related to MA for thirty three countries, LM was negatively related to MA for thirty countries, whereas UM was not related to MA for twenty one countries; (4) positive collective relationships of SCLM, LM and UM to MA considerably varied from country to country. Implications for research and practice are included.

AbstractThe paper uses data from the combined TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) assessment in 2011 to explore the subject-specific strengths and weaknesses among fourth grade students worldwide. Previous research came to the conclusion that students only differed in overall achievement levels and did not exhibit subject-specific strengths and weaknesses. This research did, however, not control for differences in overall performance levels when searching for profile differences. Therefore, the present study uses factor mixture analysis to study qualitatively different performance profiles in mathematics, reading, and science while controlling for differences in performance levels. Our findings suggest that the majority of students do not show pronounced strengths and weaknesses and differ mainly in performance levels across mathematics, reading, and science. At the same time, a smaller share of students does indeed show pronounced subject-specific strengths and weaknesses. This result does not represent an artefact, but we find clear and theory-conforming associations between the identified profiles and covariates. We find evidence for cross-country differences in the frequency of subject-specific strengths and weaknesses and gender differences, as well as differences between students who do not or only sometimes speak the language of test at home.

In this study, the purpose was to investigate Personal Information Management (PIM) activity rate regardingfourPIM aspects o f acquisition, maintenance, organization, and retrieval o f faculty members in three universities, i.e., Tehran University o f Medical Science (TUMS), Iran University o f Medical Sciences (lUMS), and Shahid Beheshti University o f Medical Sciences (SBUMS). The relationship between PIM use and workplace, academic rank, and gender factors were also studied. A Persian-language questionnaire was used to measure PIM performance of participants. Data were analysed using statistical tests. Findings showed that most o f the participants preferred desktop computers for saving theirpersonal digital information. Also, the percentage of PIM use by the faculty members was reported as 50-75%. However, no significant associations between PIM use by the faculty members and their workplace, academic rank, andgenderwerefound.

The main purpose of this study to investigate the ability of mathematical communication ofHigh School Students, as a result of learning mathematics through application RealisticMathematics Education (RME). Research design used was a quasi experimental. Subjects inthis study consisted of 70 students of class VII Junior High School, Junior High School on oneof the states in Bandung academic year 2015/2016. Subject determined by purposivesampling techniques, and this study using pretest-posttest design of the control group. Datacollected with a mathematical communication ability test descriptions. Data were analyzedusing parametric statistical tests which is Test Independent Sample T-Test and nonparametrical tests which is Test Mann-Whitney. The results showed that: (1) students wholearn math with RME approach has a better ability mathematical communication of studentswho do not learn math with RME; (2) increasing mathematical communication ability ofstudents who learn with RME better than students who do not learn with RME; (3) students'attitudes toward learning mathematics through RME showed a positive attitude.

ABSTRAK Pneumonia merupakan penyebab dari 15% kematian pada balita. Keberadaan anggota keluarga yang merokok di dalam rumah merupakan salah satu faktor penyebab terjadinya masalah kesehatan pada sistem pernafasan khususnya Pneumonia pada anak. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan kebiasaan merokok di dalam rumah dengan kejadian Pneumonia pada anak usia 1-4 tahun. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi penelitian ini adalah anggota keluarga yang memiliki anak usia 1-4 tahun yang terkena Pneumonia sebanyak 110 dengan jumlah sampel 86 responden menggunakan accidental sampling. Pengumpulan data diperoleh dengan menggunakan kuesioner dan dianalisis secara statistik menggunakan uji Chi Square. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistik dari 86 responden yang memiliki keberadaan orang yang merokok di dalam rumah sebanyak 52 orang (60,47%) sedangkan keberadaan orang yang tidak merokok di dalam rumah sebanyak 34 (39,53%).  Responden dengan kategori mengalami Pneumonia sebanyak 75 orang (87,21%), yang mengalami Pneumonia berat sebanyak 7 orang  (8,14%) dan yang mengalami Pneumonia sangat berat sebanyak 4 orang (4,63 %) dengan  P value = 0,016 (< 0,05). Terdapat hubungan kebiasaan merokok  dengan kejadian Pneumonia pada anak usia 1-4 tahun.    Kata kunci  : kebiasaan merokok; pneumonia; anak  CORRELATION BETWEEN SMOKING HABITS AT HOME AND THE INCIDENT OF PNEUMONIA AMONG CHILDREN AGED 1-4 YEARS  ABSTRACT Pneumonia is the cause of 15% of deaths in children under five. The presence of family members who smoke in the house is one of the causal factors of health problems in the respiratory system, especially pneumonia among children. This study was aimed to determine the correlation between smoking habits at home and the incidence of pneumonia among children aged 1-4 years. This was an analytic study with cross sectional approach. The population of this study were family members who had children aged 1-4 years with pneumonia as many as 110 people. The number of samples was taken through the Slovin sample size formula totally 86 respondents and the determination of the samples used Accidental Sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed statistically using the Chis Square test. Based on the results of statistical tests, it was revealed that of 86 respondents, 52 people (60.47%) had the presence of people who smoked in the house while 34 (39.53%) did not have had the presence of people who smoked in the house.  75 respondents (87.21%) had pneumonia, 7 people experienced severe pneumonia (8.14%) and 4 people experienced very severe pneumonia (4.63%). Chi Square test results obtained a P value=0.016 (<0.05), which meant that there is a relationship between smoking habit at home and the incidence of pneumonia among children aged 1-4 years. Keywords: Smoking habit; pneumonia; children

This research is a research and development that aims to produce a valid and effective MEB (Monopoly Education Book) media in fostering a nationalist sense of the Indonesian nation in learning mathematics. The research subjects were fourth grade students of SDN Wonokromo 1 Surabaya. The development of this media in its stages is limited to the mass production stage. Where the validity has been validated against three validators. The results of the research from the three validation results that have been given can be average and it is concluded that the MEB (Monopoly Education Book) media that has been developed gets a score of 86% where the score is included in the "Very Good" criteria. And the MEB (Monopoly Education Book) media is effective as evidenced by the completeness of the classical learning outcomes of students reaching 76%. Thus the learning media MEB (Monopoly Education Book) can be said to be valid and effective.

AbstrakPenelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh hasil penelitian-penelitian terdahulu yang menunjukkan masih rendahnya kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan self-confidence siswa dalam belajar matematika. Learning Cycle 7E merupakan salah satu model pembelajaran yang diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan self-confidence siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan self-confidence siswa yang mendapatkan model pembelajaran learning cycle 7E dengan yang mendapatkan model pembelajaran konvensional. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuasi eksperimen dengan populasi siswa di salah satu SMP di Kabupaten Garut. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupas tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan skala sikap self-confidence siswa. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan self-confidence siswa yang mendapatkan model pembelajaran learning cycle 7E lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran konvensional. AbstractThis research is motivated by the results of previous studies which indicates the low ability of mathematical communication and self-confidence of students in learning mathematics. Learning Cycle 7E is one of the learning model that is expected to improve the ability of mathematical communication and self-confidence of students. The purpose of this study to determine the improvement of mathematical communication skills and self-confidence of students who get learning model of learning cycle 7E with which get the conventional learning model. This research is a quasi-experiment research with student population in one of junior high school in Garut. Sampling is done by using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used in this study examined the ability of mathematical communication and the scale of student self-confidence attitude. The result of data analysis shows that the improvement of mathematical communication ability and self-confidence of students who get the learning model of learning cycle 7E is better than students who get conventional learning.

The activity of speaking or known as public speaking is a scary thing for students. Although they are often asked to practice presentations in front of the class, the technique of delivering public speaking is often not paid attention to. There are several techniques that should be mastered in public speaking so that the delivery can be conveyed well to the audience. This time, the implementation of PKM aims to provide knowledge about public speaking skills, improve speaking skills, mentally prepare students to speak in front of crowds, and equip students to enter lectures or work.  The method presented in this activity is lecture and practice.with 20 students from SMK Bina Nusa Slawi. Students are also provided with modules to make it easier when delivering and students can also repeat the material at home. Students are also given directions regarding the correct way of presentation in Indonesian and English in accordance with the rules of public speaking. In addition to theory and practice in the classroom. Students are also directed to observe several public speaking figures through Youtube channel. In general, community service activity at SMK Bina Nusa Slawi are going well. Students' enthusiasm is extraordinary, as evidenced by the fact that 80 percent of students believe that having public speaking skills and increasing self-confidence are important. Students feel helped by this activity because they gain knowledge about public speaking and presentation techniques that can be used to support presentations in class or as a provision for later in the world of work.
