Development of 5-E Learning Cycle-Based Simple Chemistry Practicum Guideline Module for Eleventh Grade

The chemistry practicum activity in school is impossible due to the COVID-19 pandemic, whereas practicum is very important to train soft skills and understanding of chemistry materials. This research aimed to develop 5-e learning cycle-based simple chemistry practicum guideline module for students of class XI. The development model used was a 4-D development model. The quality of the product was assessed by one material expert, one media expert, five reviewers (chemistry teachers of high school), and responded by ten students of high school. The instruments used in the research were product quality assessment sheets using a Likert scale and student response sheets, in the form of a questionnaire, using the Guttman scale. The characteristics of the developed practicum module were in the form of a practicum module for hydrocarbons, thermochemistry, reaction rates, and chemical equilibrium, using simple tools and chemicals; being combined with the 5-e learning cycle model. The quality assessment on the practicum module, which was carried out by one material expert, media experts, and reviewers, gained 88.89. 95.83. and 94.00%. All assessments got a score with Very Good score. From these results, it can be concluded that the developed product is feasible to be used as a practicum guideline.

Online student support: a framework for embedding support interventions into the online learning cycle

Support is one of the crucial elements of online students’ success. Although many support strategies have been documented in the past, less is known at what stages of the learning cycle suggested interventions can be embedded into the online learning curriculum. This paper offers a systematic review of the 28 empirical studies on effective support strategies and interventions that are indexed by the SCOPUS database between 2010 and 2020. Following an Inclusive Student Services Process Model framework, identified strategies are allocated across different phases of student learning to indicate where and when they can be delivered to online students. The analysis suggests that the effectiveness of the support provision depends on the time when support is offered. Furthermore, it was found that two areas support delivery, namely support at transitions and measurement of support interventions, remain under-researched. Finally, the analysis showed two emerging trends in online students support: an increasing role of technology and social network sites to design support interventions and a shift to a more personalised yet holistic approach to student support.

The Effectiveness of E-Module on Buffer Solutions to Improve Students' Higher-Order Thinking Skills and Self-Regulated Learning

This study aims to determine the difference between Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and Students Self Regulated Learning (SRL) before and after using e-module based on the 7E (elicit, engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate, and extend) learning cycle on the buffer solution material, and to determine the percentage of its effectiveness. The research use a quasi experiment with one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this research were students of natural science 11th grade in one of senior high schools in Yogyakarta. The instrument used were test in the form of HOTS pretest-posttest description question and non-test in the form of self-regulated learning questionnaire. The data analysis technique used is Hotteling's T2 test. The results showed that the significance value was 0.000 < = 0.05, then H0 was rejected. There were differences in students' HOTS and SRL before and after using e-module based on the 7E learning cycle. The effectiveness of using e-module show by HOTS and SRL simultaneously (36.8%), HOTS (25.2%), and SRL (20.5%).

Pengaruh Model Siklus Belajar Hipotesis-Deduktif terhadap Hasil Belajar Matematika Siswa SMA

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengaruh model siklus belajar hipotesis-deduktif terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen semu dengan pretest-posttest control group design. Sampel penelitian ini melibatkan 66 siswa di dua kelas pada Madrasah Aliyah Darul Mahmudien NW Lombok Tengah sebagai sampel. Kelompok eksperimen (29 siswa) dan kelompok control (37 siswa) dipilih menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Data hasil belajar siswa dianalisis sesara statistic menggunakan independent t-test dengan bantuan software IBM SPSS versi 23. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model siklus belajar hipotesis-deduktif berpengaruh signifikan (p < 0,05) terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa. Temuan tersebut didukung hasil skor rata-rata kelompok eksperimen (mean= 81,0345) yang lebih tinggi dari kelompok control (mean= 76,9730) sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa model siklus belajar hipotesis-deduktif berpengaruh signifikan terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa. The Effect of Hypothetical-Deductive Learning Cycle Model on Mathematics Learning Outcomes of High School Students Abstract This study aims to describe the effect of the hypothetical-deductive learning cycle model on students' mathematics learning outcomes. This research is a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The sample of this study involved 66 students in two classes at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Mahmudien NW Central Lombok as a sample. The experimental group (29 students) and the control group (37 students) were selected using cluster random sampling technique. Data on student learning outcomes were analyzed statistically using an independent t-test with the help of IBM SPSS version 23 software. The results showed that the hypothesis-deductive learning cycle model had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on students' mathematics learning outcomes. This finding is supported by the average score of the experimental group (mean = 81.0345) which is higher than the control group (mean = 76.9730) so it can be concluded that the hypothetical-deductive learning cycle model has a significant effect on students' mathematics learning outcomes.

CHALLENGES AND BENEFITS OF EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING: THE CASE OF OVERSEAS EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

This article highlights an increasingly popular form of experiential learning, namely overseas exchange programs. Experiential learning is regarded as a valuable way to link up theoretical knowledge and practical skills in hospitality and tourism education. Although some studies have addressed the importance of experiential learning, the factors influencing students’ choice of overseas exchange programs, and the challenges and benefits of students’ experiential learning are still unclear, especially on the overseas exchange programs. The purpose of this study is to reveal the whole picture of overseas exchange programs by utilizing experiential learning cycle theory, and further understand students’ perception of overseas experiential learning. By employing quantitative and qualitative methods, including questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews with students who have participated in the overseas exchange programs and content analysis of program information, this study analyzes the differences of factors considered by males and females in choosing overseas exchange programs, and displays the four-stage learning process of experiential learning in overseas exchange programs and identifies two themes of challenges (living challenges and learning challenges) and five themes of benefits (cognitive development, behavioural change, multiple skill development, social bonding development, academic competitiveness & employability enhancement) for experiential learning for students majoring in Hospitality and Tourism. The study enriches our understandings of the experiential learning cycle theory and provides insights to educators in the design of future overseas exchange programs.

Enhancing Students’ Attitude towards Biology through the Integration of Traditional Medicine and 5E’s Learning Cycle

The study investigated the effect of integrating traditional medicine (TM) concepts with grade 9th microorganism and disease topics on students’ attitude towards biology. The study used a quasi-experimental pretest, posttest non-equivalent group design. two intact classes were selected in Chiro district of Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia. The first class belonged to the treatment group where TM contents are integrated through 5E’s learning cycle with the topic Microorganism and Disease and the second was assigned as comparison group learning the same biology unit on Microorganisms and Disease using the usual approach. Biological Attitude Questionnaires (BAQ) was administered for both groups as pre- and post-tests. The findings showed that the integration of TM with the school biology enhanced students’ attitude towards biology as compared with teaching the topics without integration.

Integrasi Media Berbasis Peta Persebaran Candi Hindu-Budha Di Tulungagung Dengan Pendekatan Kontruktivisme Dalam Pembelajaran Sejarah

History learning should be done creatively and innovatively that interests students. This research provides an alternative framework for historical learning by packaging materials spreading Hindu-Buddhist temples in Tulungagung with a constructivism approach. This study uses the literature study method. The data source comes from books, articles, and research report results that fit the topic. Various library materials are processed, identified, analyzed, and reflected to create new findings. As a result, there are seven temple sites in Tulungagung Regency, namely Boyolangu Temple, Sanggrahan Temple, Meja Temple, Dadi Temple, Mirigambar Temple, Ampel Temple, and Penampihan Temple. The material of the distribution of temples in Tulungagung can be used as the content of learning media. Implementation of learning media is integrated with the constructivism approach through the learning cycle model. Stages of the learning cycle include discovery, concept recognition, and concept application. In conclusion, the integration of local history materials can strengthen student's local historical awareness. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan alternatif kerangka pembelajaran sejarah melalui pengemasan materi persebaran candi Hindu-Buddha di Tulungagung dengan pendekatan konstruktivisme. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kepustakaan. Sumber data berasal dari buku, artikel dan hasil laporan penelitian yang sesuai dengan topik. Berbagai bahan pustaka diproses, diidentifikasi, dianalisis dan direfleksikan sehingga tercipta temuan baru. Hasilnya terdapat tujuh situs candi di Kabupaten Tulungagung yaitu Candi Boyolangu, Candi Sanggrahan, Candi Meja, Candi Dadi, Candi Mirigambar, Candi Ampel, dan Candi Penampihan. Materi persebaran candi di Tulungagung dapat digunakan sebagai isi dari media pembelajaran. Implementasi media pembelajaran terintegrasi dengan pendekatan konstruktivisme melalui model siklus belajar. Tahapan siklus belajar meliputi discovery (penemuan), pengenalan konsep, dan aplikasi konsep. Kesimpulannya integrasi materi sejarah lokal dapat menguatkan kesadaran sejarah lokal siswa. Integrating Sustainability-Oriented Ecologies of Practice Across the Learning Cycle: Supporting Transformative Behaviours in Transgenerational, Transnational and Transdisciplinary Spaces

The article examines the complexities associated with effectively and comprehensively tackling the climate change crisis. Focusing on the need for education, the authors discuss a model of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) that supports the development of competencies, coalition building and the capacity to support and maintain positive action. Drawing upon principles highlighted by the United Nations, the paper outlines the breadth and depth of knowledge required to support transformative ESD. Firstly enhancing comprehensive knowledge that develops cognitive, affective and axiological dimensions and proficiency. This enhances critical engagement with information and enables individuals to act responsibly and align with others in coalition building. The second element refers to collaborative partnership that is crucial for changes to be effective. This has been one of the most challenging barriers preventing positive action on the catastrophe pf climate change. Finally, the paper emphasizes the need to develop the competencies for supporting collective action, which will enable sustained action across transnational, transdisciplinary and transnational boundaries.
