Based on S-shaped terpyridines, a series of yellow, orange, and red-orange light-emitting iridium(iii) complexes has been synthesized. The respective compounds have been prepared by the bridge-splitting method starting from the dimeric precursor complexes [(ppy)2Ir-μ-Cl]2, [(ppy-CHO)2Ir-μ-Cl]2, and [(c6)2Ir-μ-Cl]2. The products have been fully characterized by one- and two-dimensional (1H–1H correlation) NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry revealing the successful coordination of the iridium(iii) centres to the S-shaped terpyridine ligands. Furthermore, the quantitative coordination has been verified by the photophysical and electrochemical properties of the mononuclear iridium(iii) complexes. The photoluminescence spectra have shown strong emissions with maxima between 538 and 600 nm. The study of the optical properties of these novel complexes has indicated that the colour shifts are mainly depending on the nature of the cyclometallating ligands.

Supramolecular architectures are of great interest in modern materials research. The directed synthesis of asym-metric 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine ruthenium(II) complexes is an important tool towards such systems. In this contribution, we report the synthesis of asymmetric terpyridine ruthenium(II) complexes as models for supramolecular architectures and polymers. Terpyridines, bearing different functional groups in the 4′-position, were complexed with unfunctionalized terpyridine ligands using Ru(III)/Ru(II) chemistry. The resulting compounds were characterized by UV-vis, one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy as well as MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. In addition, X-ray structure analysis was performed for one selected example.

The synthesis and characterization of new deuterated liquid crystal (LC) compounds based on phenyl tolane core is described in this paper. The work presents an alternative molecular approach to the conventional LC design. Correlations between molecular structure and mesomorphic and optical properties for compounds which are alkyl-hydrogen terminated and alkyl-deuterium, have been drawn. The compounds are characterized by mass spectrometry (electron ionization) analysis and infrared spectroscopy. They show enantiotropic nematic behavior in a broad temperature range, confirmed by a polarizing thermomicroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Detailed synthetic procedures are attached. Synthesized compounds show a significantly reduced absorption in the near-infrared (NIR) and medium-wavelength infrared (MWIR) radiation range, and stand as promising components of medium to highly birefringent liquid crystalline mixtures.

Chemical investigation of the MeOH extract of the sponge Acanthostrongylophora ingens afforded the new manzamine derivative ircinal E (1), in addition to six known metabolites (2–7). The structure of the new compound was unequivocally elucidated using one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, as well as high-resolution mass spectrometry. Compounds 1–6 exhibited strong to moderate cytotoxicity against the murine lymphoma L5178Y cell line with IC50 values ranging from 2.8 to 21.7 μM.

The bandgap energy of Si3N4:Al is precisely and gradually tailored from 2.58 to 2.85 eV by increasing the Al concentration. Si3N4:Al:Eu phosphors exhibiting a yellow-orange emission are promising for solid-state warm white lighting under blue chip excitation.

Abstract B-Nitrosooxypentamethylborazine, B-nitrooxypentamethylborazine and B-trinitrooxy-N-trimethylborazine have been synthesized and characterized by 1H, 13C, 11B, and 14N NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The 11B NMR shifts were calculated and compared to the experimental results. The decomposition temperatures and the impact and friction sensitivities of these compounds have been determined as well.

This paper describes the synthesis and comprehensive characterization of tetrakis(pentafluoroethyl)germane. In addition to a complete NMR spectroscopic characterization, including the rarely used 73Ge NMR spectroscopy, Ge(C2F5)4 was studied by IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry as well as X-ray diffraction analysis. A 73Ge NMR investigation as well as an X-ray diffraction study of the related germane Ge(CF3)4 are also included.

A new N, N'-imidazolium salt 1-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-3- (4,6-dimorpholino -1,3,5-traizine-2-yl)-1H-imidazol-3-ium chloride) as a precursor of N - heterocyclic carbene ligand was prepared via the reaction of 1 - (2, 6 - diisopropyl phenyl - 1H - imidazole) with 1, 3, 5 - triazine derivative bearing morpholine substituent (2, 6 -dimorpholine - 6- chloro-1, 3, 5-triaziazine). Linear coordi-nated Ag (І) NHC complex was synthesised via deprotonation of the imidazolium salt and reac-tion with Ag2O in darkness at room temperature by in situ method. The complex was synthesised for using as transfer agent to prepare another transition metals complexes by transmetallation method in the future. The imidazolium salt and their silver complex have been characterized by 1 H and 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as mass spectrometry.

Maleimide-containing fluorinated porphyrins and chlorins were prepared based on the reaction of Zn(II) or Ni(II) complexes of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-amino-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl)porphyrin and chlorin with maleic anhydride. Porphyrin maleimide derivatives were also prepared by the reaction of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl)porphyrinato Zn(II) or Ni(II) with N-propargylmaleimide via the CuAAC click reaction to afford fluorinated porphyrin–triazole–maleimide conjugates. New maleimide derivatives were isolated in reasonable yields and identified by UV–vis, 1H NMR, 19F NMR spectroscopy and mass-spectrometry.
