The working principle of the refractive-type fiber optic liquid level sensor is analyzed in detail based on the light refraction principle. The optic path models are developed in consideration of common simplification and the residual liquid film on the glass tube wall. The calculating formulae for the model are derived, constraint conditions are obtained, influencing factors are discussed, and the scopes and skills of application are analyzed through instance simulations. The research results are useful in directing the correct usage of the fiber optic liquid level sensor, especially in special cases, such as those involving viscous liquid in the glass tube monitoring.

The paper presents the measurement system of the air plane fuel mass consisting of cylinder shell resonating density meter and double cylinders capacitance level meter. The finite element analysis method of ANSYS10.0 is used to analyze the performance of cylinder shell resonator density meter and double cylinders capacitance fuel level sensor. On the base of simulation, the cylinder shell is 45mm in length, 9mm in radius, and 0.08mm in thickness, the material is 3J53; the double cylinders capacitance is 8mm in inside diameter, 23.6mm in outside diameter, and 550 mm in length. The experiments show the uncertainty of cylinder shell resonating density meter is only 0.12%, the uncertainty of double cylinders capacitance level meter is only 0.2%, and the uncertainty of the fuel mass measurement system is 0.4%.

Fuel theft from vehicles is one of the major problems, the world is facing today. The reason for fuel theft is steady increase in the price. Hence fuel theft is a major concern for everyone, especially the logistics and fuel transport companies. These companies are facing significant losses due fuel theft from their fleet of vehicles which usually include heavy vehicles like trucks, lorries etc. There are several solutions which are used by these companies to prevent or minimize fuel theft which include monitoring cameras, additional security, GPS tracking of vehicles etc. We have come up with this project to prevent fuel theft, especially in fuel transport vehicles. Our proposed system detects any change in fuel level of a fuel tank using ultrasonic sensor and with the integration of GSM module, the message regarding the change in fuel level and the location of the vehicle (detected using GPS) is sent to the owner or the management. The additional feature of our project is, we can lock the fuel tank remotely if needed by the owner.

Fuel shortage is a common problem in Indonesia. This prompted many cases of vehicle fuel theft. As a solution to this problem, an Arduino-based vehicle fuel theft detector system is implemented. Arduino-based vehicle fuel theft detector system is a prototype that uses Arduino UNO as a microcontroller, IComSat v1.1 SIM900 GSM/GPRS Shield to communicate with mobile phone, fuel level sensor as a volume detector, and push button as a detector to check whether the fuel tank’s lid is open or closed. The working principle of this system is to detect the state of the fuel tank lid. When the lid is open, the system will make a phone call. Then, the system will keep track of fuel volume. If there is a drastic decrease in volume, the system will send information about the decreasing volume in the form of a short message to the owner of the vehicle. The success rate of the communication system between Arduino UNO and other electronic devices is 100%. Accuracy of fuel level sensor is 90%. Success rate of push button switch in detecting the state of fuel tank’s lid is 100%. Success rate of GSM Shield communication is 90%.

A brand new self-compensated capacitive fuel level sensor has been proposed in this paper. Through mathematics manipulation and theoretical analysis, we design the self-compensated structure of capacitive level sensor. The multiple segmentation structure makes compensation for temperature and medium possible. Furthermore, the effect caused by adhesion on the sensor electrodes if the adhesion fails to return initial position when the plane’s attitude is changing has been analyzed. Additionally, based on RF admittance theory, the transducer which can eliminate the adhesion effect has been designed and implemented using phase-locked sampling technique. Through level experiment and data analysis, the fuel level sensor proved to achieve all the destinations, including compensation for temperature and medium and elimination of adhesion effect. Hence, the accuracy of level measurement has been improved.
