As the lateral dimension of spin Hall effect based magnetic random-access memory (SHE-RAM) devices is scaled down, shape anisotropy has varied influence on both the magnetic field and the current-driven switching characteristics. In this paper, we study such influences on elliptic film nanomagnets and theoretically investigate the switching characteristics for SHE-RAM element with in-plane magnetization. The analytical expressions for critical current density are presented and the results are compared with those obtained from macrospin and micromagnetic simulation. It is found that the key performance indicators for in-plane SHE-RAM, including thermal stability and spin torque efficiency, are highly geometry dependent and can be effectively improved by geometric design.

Interaction between magnetization dynamics and spin polarized electronic transport has been studied for ferromagnet nanodisk situated upon a 3D topological insulator (TI) film. Resonant magnetization dynamics leads to generation of spin current, which flows into the topological insulator, where spin to charge conversion occurs. Using micromagnetic simulations for magnetization dynamics we estimate the dc voltage, which is created due to this process in topological insulator. Contribution from different modes, which are characteristic for nanodisks, to the voltage was calculated.

AbstractThe discovery of Photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE) on surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) is an important progress in photonics. In this paper, a method of realizing multi-channel PSHE in two-dimensional metal-air-metal waveguide is proposed. By modulating the phase difference $$\phi$$ ϕ and polar angle $$\theta$$ θ of the dipole source, the SPP can propagate along a specific channel. We further prove that PSHE results from the component wave interference theory. We believe that our findings will rich the application of SPPs in optical devices.
