Independently tunable dual resonant dip refractive index sensor based on metal-insulator-metal waveguide with Q-shaped resonant cavity

A plasmonic resonator system consisting of a metal-insulator-metal waveguide and a Q-shaped resonant cavity is proposed in this paper. The transmission properties of surface plasmon polaritons in this structure are investigated using the finite difference in time domain (FDTD) method, and the simulation results contain two resonant dips. And the physical mechanism is studied by the multimode interference coupled mode theory (MICMT), the theoretical results are in highly consistent with the simulation results. Furthermore, the parameters of the Q-shaped cavity can be controlled to adjust two dips respectively. The refractive index sensor with a sensitivity of 1578nm/RIU and figure of merit (FOM) of 175, performs better than most of the similar structures. Therefore, the results of the study are instructive for the design and application of high sensitivity nanoscale refractive index sensors.

High-Sensitivity PtSe2 Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensor Based on Metal-Si-Metal Waveguide Structure

PtSe2 as a novel TMDCs material is used to modify the traditional SPR biosensors to improve the performance. On this basis, this research proposes a metal-Si-metal waveguide structure to further improve the performance of the biosensor. In this study, we not only studied the effects of waveguide structures containing different metals on the performance of biosensor, but also discussed the performance change of the biosensor with the change of PtSe2 thickness. After the final optimization, a BK7-Au-Si-Au-PtSe2 (2 nm) biosensor structure achieved the highest sensitivity of 193.8°/RIU. This work provides a new development idea for the study of SPR biosensors with waveguide structures in the future.

Plasmonic Refractive Index Sensor and Plasmonic Bandpass Filter Including Waveguide and Four Teeth Based On Fano Resonances

A plasmonic refractive index sensor including a Metal-Insulator-Metal waveguide (MIM) with four teeth is proposed. Transmittance (T), Sensitivity (S) and Figure of Merit (FOM) investigated numerically and analysed via Finite Difference Time Domain method (FDTD). The simulation results show the generation of double Fano resonances in the system that the resonance wavelength and the resonance line-shapes can be adjusted by changing the geometry of the device. By optimizing the structure in the initial configuration, the maximum sensitivity of 1078nm/RIU and FOM of 3.62×105 is achieved. Then change the structure parameters. In this case, the maximum sensitivity and FOM are 1041nm/RIU and 2.94×104 respectively, thus two detection points can be used for the refractive index sensor. Due to proper performance and adjustable Fano resonance points, this structure is significant for fabricating sensitive refractive index sensor and plasmonic bandpass filter.

Tunable Nanosensor With a Horizontal Number Eight-Shape Cavity in a MIM Waveguide System

Optical devices play an important role in different fields, such as refractive index detection in food processing and the biochemical industry. In our work, a novel nanoscale optical structure, composed of a metal-insulator-metal waveguide with a stub and a horizontal number eight-shape cavity (HNEC), is presented. The transmission properties of this structure are investigated in detail by using finite element method The effects of geometric parameters on sensing performance are studied in detail. Moreover, the influences of an asymmetric resonator caused by shifting central rectangular cavity of HNEC on transmission spectrum are discussed. The changing parameters of HNEC resonator have different effects on different resonance dips. Then, when the parameters of this presented structure are fixed as a of 540 nm, b of 340 nm, S of 0, l of 70 nm and g of 10 nm, this intriguing structure can serve as a refractive index sensor, whose maximum sensitivity can reach 1,500 nm/refractive index unit with a figure of merit of 75. Therefore, this structure will contribute to the development of miniaturization of optical devices.

FOCUSING OF POSITRON BUNCH WHEN MOVING IN ELECTRON BUNCH WAKEFIELD IN THE DIELECTRIC WAVEGUIDE FILLED WITH PLASMA

The results of numerical PIC-simulation of focusing accelerated (test) positron and drive electron bunches in the dielectric waveguide filled with radially heterogeneous plasma with the vacuum channel are given in the paper. The wakefield was excited by electron bunch in quartz dielectric tube, inserted into cylindrical metal waveguide. The internal area of dielectric tube has been filled with plasma different transverse density profiles, heterogeneous on radius, with the vacuum channel along waveguide axis. Plasma density for all studied cases was so low that plasma frequency was less, than the frequency of the main dielectric mode. Results of numerical PIC simulation have shown that possibility of simultaneous acceleration and focusing of the test positron bunch are possible in the wakefield. The best acceleration happens in case of plasma absence, however at that there is no focusing of test positron bunch.
