Characterization of two rapid-quenched Nd-Fe-B alloys with nonstoichiometric Nd content in the optimized magnetic state was carried out using the X-ray diffractometry (XRD), 57Fe M?ssbauer spectroscopic phase analysis (MS), electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution TEM (HREM) and Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) magnetometer. The experimental results demonstrate the fundamental difference in the structure and magnetic properties of the two investigated alloys in the optimized magnetic state. The Nd-Fe-B alloy with the reduced Nd content (Nd4.5Fe77B18.5) was found to have the nanocomposite structure of Fe3B/Nd2Fe14B and partly ?-Fe/Nd2Fe14B, with mean grain size below 30 nm. On the other side, the overstoichiometric Nd14Fe79B7 alloy has almost a monophase structure with the dominant content of the hard magnetic phase Nd2Fe14B (up to 95 wt. %) and a mean crystallite size about 60 nm, as determined by XRD and TEM analysis. The results of magnetic measurements on SQUID magnetometer also suggest the nanocomposite structure of the Nd-low alloy and nanocrystalline decoupled structure of the Nd-rich alloy after the optimal heat treatment.

AbstractThe recently investigated compound Co6O2[TeO4(CoAsO5)2 marks the first occurrence of a tellurate-arsenate additionally revealing the hitherto unknown pyro-cobaltoarsenate group CoAsO7. One oxygen is exclusively connected to octahedrally coordinated cobalt. It is shown that the structure of Co6O2[TeO4(CoAsO5)2] can be derived step by step from the rock salt structure of CoO. Magnetic measurements using the Faraday technique reveal Curie-Weiss behaviour between 88 and 325 K. Low temperature measurements by a SQUID magnetometer show antiferromagnetism and a relatively low NEEL temperature of 5 K compared to other Co(II) compounds.

AbstractX-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements using a SQUID magnetometer have been performed on the title compounds for 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.9. For 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5, we have single phase materials. However, a small percentage of an impurity phase is noticed in the x = 0.7 sample, and the x = 0.9 sample is clearly not a single phase material. The transition temperature, the diamagnetic-shielding effect, and the Meissner-effect increase as x becomes larger. We have obtained, approximately, Hc1 ≤ 700 oe and Hc2 ≥ 800 k0e.

ABSTRACTThe principles of several of the most popular macroscopic magnetic measurement techniques are discussed for the vibrating sample magnetometer, SQUID magnetometer, ac susceptometer, ac force magnetometer, and torque magnetometers. These types of instruments are available commercially as stand-alone computer-controlled systems, Selected examples of recent measurements on thin films, small particles, and clusters of magnetic ions are presented.
