An indirect competitive enzyme-linked aptamer assay (ELAA) with multivalent HRP-mimicking DNAzyme for colorimetric detection of tetracycline. Aptamer modified multivalent HRP-mimicking DNAzyme exhibited high selectivity and enhanced catalytic capacity, which improved the detection sensitivity greatly.

For the colorimetric detection of S, SH, cysteine, and H2S, the sensitivity of Ag–Au nanoalloy is better than pure Ag cluster, and both of them possess high selectivity for the detection of S.

AbstractWe have presented a potentiometric urea sensor using an urease/bovine serum albumin (BSA)-poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT)/Pt electrode. A urea detection sensitivity of 15.2 mV/decade (order of magnitude) has been achieved. BSA trapped in the PEDOT matrix was employed to bond urease molecules on the surface of a BSA-PEDOT/Pt electrode via amide bonds formed between the carboxyl functional groups on the enzyme and the amines on the BSA. The effects of PEDOT thickness, pH value of the urea solution, urease concentration, and temperature on the urea detection sensitivity were also studied. The lifetime of the sensor was studied for a period of 10 weeks, and the average sensing degradation rate was about 9 % per week. This sensor displayed a high selectivity to urea over glucose, KCl, and NaCl.

Acephate (Ac), an organophosphate (OP) insecticide, is very harmful to human and the environment. Conventional techniques of detection are sensitive and selective but relatively time-consuming, expensive, and require trained personnel. This paper describes the use of an image processing technique to digitize the red values (RVs) of the colour image of Ac-capped gold nanoparticles (Ac-Cit-AuNPs) complex captured using a digital microscope to improve the detection accuracy and precision. The formation of the suspension was characterised using laser test, ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer (UV-Vis), high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), and Fourier Transform infrared spectroscope (FTIR). The linear regression analysis revealed that the detection sensitivity improved as the smaller gold nanoparticles were used. For quantitative measurement using image processing, a good linear relationship (R2 = 0.9905 and 0.9924) for Cit-HAuNPs and Cit-MAuNPs, respectively, between the concentration of Ac and average red values was obtained in the range of 0–8 mM. The limit of detection (LOD) for Ac was found to be 0.3 mM and 0.4 mM for Cit-MAuNPs and Cit-HAuNPs, respectively.

Ascorbic acid is an organic compound with antioxidant properties that can protect the human body from the threat of free radicals. Therefore, it is important to detect the existence and measure the concentration of ascorbic acid to regulate its content in the human body. In this work, we prepared bitter gourd polysaccharide (BGP)-stabilized platinum nanoclusters (Pt-BGP NCs) by reacting BGP with K2PtCl4. Pt-BGP NCs and catalyzed the decomposition of H2O2 to generate •OH radicals, which could oxidize TMB to form oxidized TMB (oxTMB), indicating their peroxidase-like properties. The kinetics followed the Michaelis–Menten equation. Furthermore, the colorimetric detection of ascorbic acid using Pt-BGP NCs showed high selectivity and a low detection limit of 0.191 μM. The accuracy of real sample detection using Pt-BGP NCs was as high as 98.9%. More importantly, Pt-BGP NCs had high cell biocompatibility and extremely low hemolysis rate due to the component of BGP. In summary, the prepared Pt-BGP NCs with reductive activity and good biocompatibility have good application prospects in colorimetric detection of ascorbic acid.

A simple and selective colorimetric method for detection of cysteine using chitosan stabilized gold nanoparticles has been developed. L-cysteine is a sulfur containing amino acid. Cysteine binds with the gold nanoparticles through a sulfur group and induces aggregation of the nanoparticles, which leads to a visible colour change from pale red to blue. A good linearity was observed from 0.1 to 30 μmol/L (R = 0.9958) cysteine, and the limit of detection was found to be 0.1 μmol/L. The gold nanoparticles showed a high selectivity towards the detection of cysteine even in the presence of 10 000 fold higher concentration of common interferences such as glutathione, methionine, and homocysteine. A plausible mechanism for the selective detection of cysteine in presence of interferences based on a dispersion–aggregation mechanism has been proposed.
