The presence of CdS QDs enhances the electrical conductivity and power factor but considerably lowers the thermal conductivity of the nanocomposite. The present RGO/CdS QDs/PANI nanocomposite restricts phonons but permits electrical charges making it a thermally disconnected but electrically connected material for efficient thermoelectric applications.

We investigated the effects of Fe3O4 (0~0.1 wt.%) on the thermoelectric properties of Bi1Sb4Te7.5 alloy prepared by mechanical alloying process. The Seebeck coefficient increased with Fe3O4 content, but the power factor decreased with Fe3O4 content because of the decreased electrical conductivity. The thermal conductivity decreased with Fe3O4. The carrier concentration measured by the Hall effect measurement decreased with Fe3O4. The thermal conductivity of 0.1 wt.% Fe3O4 alloy was 0.814 W/Km, 20%lower than that of Fe3O4 free alloy. As a result, the small addition of Fe3O4 improved the Z value owing to the decreased thermal conductivity by adding Fe3O4. The Z value of 0.01 wt.% Bi1Sb4Te7.5 alloy was 3.1×10-3 /K, the highest value among the prepared alloys.

AbstractNanocomposite thermoelectrics based on Bi_0.45Sb_1.55Te_2.985 solid solution of p -type conductivity are fabricated by the hot pressing of nanopowders of this solid solution with the addition of SiO_2 microparticles. Investigations of the thermoelectric properties show that the thermoelectric power of the nanocomposites increases in a wide temperature range of 80–420 K, while the thermal conductivity considerably decreases at 80–320 K, which, despite a decrease in the electrical conductivity, leads to an increase in the thermoelectric efficiency in the nanostructured material without the SiO_2 addition by almost 50% (at 300 K). When adding SiO_2, the efficiency decreases. The initial thermoelectric fabricated without nanostructuring, in which the maximal thermoelectric figure of merit ZT = 1 at 390 K, is most efficient at temperatures above 350 K.

In this work, we use first principles DFT calculations, anharmonic phonon scatter theory and Boltzmann transport method, to predict a comprehensive study on the thermoelectric properties as electronic and phonon transport of layered LaSe2 crystal. The flat-and-dispersive type band structure of LaSe2 crystal offers a high power factor. In the other hand, low lattice thermal conductivity is revealed in LaSe2 semiconductor, combined with its high power factor, the LaSe2 crystal is considered a promising thermoelectric material. It is demonstrated that p-type LaSe2 could be optimized to exhibit outstanding thermoelectric performance with a maximum ZT value of 1.41 at 1100K. Explored by density functional theory calculations, the high ZT value is due to its high Seebeck coefficient S, high electrical conductivity, and low lattice thermal conductivity .

An effect of anisotropy on the thermoelectric properties of Bi1Sb3Te6 added with Au alloys prepared by a mechanical alloying process has been studied. The conduction properties including electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity were increased with Au content. The electrical conductivity and the power factor of the perpendicular direction to the pressing direction were larger than those of the parallel direction to the pressing direction. The intensity of (1 1 0) perpendicular plane was larger than that of the parallel plane. It was suggested that the increase of intensity of the (1 1 0) plane would contribute to improve the thermoelectric performance. Although the power factor and thermal conductivity revealed the anisotropic behavior with direction, the Z value showed almost the equal value regardless of direction. From these results, it appeared that the Z value of the Bi1Sb3Te6 added with Au alloy prepared by powder metallurgy process was almost isotropic.

In this work the results of an experimental study of Fe2Ti1-xVxSn alloys (x = 0; 0.06; 0.15; 0.2) are presented. According to the temperature dependencies of the electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity, it is established, that the studied compositions exhibit transport properties typical for semiconductors. The substitution of V at the Ti site leads to a change of the p-type electrical conductivity behavior to n-type; the pristine sample of Fe2TiSn has the best thermoelectric properties.

Na substituting Sb in the AgSbSe2 not only improves the power factor caused by the enhanced carrier concentration, but also decreases the thermal conductivity due to point defects, nanoscale stacking faults and Na-rich precipitate. Consequently, a high ZT value of 0.92 is achieved in the AgSb0.99Na0.01Se2 sample.

The p-type skutterudite compounds of ( Pr 0.25 Nd 0.75)x Fe 3 CoSb 12 (x = 0.67–0.78) have been successfully synthesized by levitation melting followed by annealing and spark plasma sintering. The thermoelectric properties have been characterized by the measurements of Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity in the temperature range from 300 K to 850 K. The improvement in the thermoelectric properties was realized due to the reduction in the lattice thermal conductivity when the voids were partially filled by Pr 0.25 Nd 0.75. The maximum ZT value of ~ 0.83 for ( Pr 0.25 Nd 0.75)0.76 Fe 3 CoSb 12 was obtained at 700 K.
