An electron-donating−accepting (D−A) molecule, namely, 4-(1-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (BT-SCC) containing carbazole as the donor moiety and benzothiadiazole as the acceptor moiety is prepared. Single-crystal X-ray structure analysis elucidated the multiple intermolecular interactions, such as hydrogen bonds, CH…π, and π…π interplays. Interestingly, the aggregation-induced emission phenomenon is observed for BT-SCC featured with enhanced fluorescent quantum yield from diluted solution of CH2Cl2 (Φ = ca. 0.1) to CH2Cl2/hexane mixed solutions or solid states (Φ = ca. 0.8). Finally, aggregates of BT-SCC are obtained through precipitating from hot and saturated solutions or solvent-vapor methods and the aggregating morphologies could be easily controlled through different preparation methods. Fabulous cube-like micro-crystals and nanospherical structures are obtained, which is established by the synergistic effects of the multiple non-covalent interactions, endowing potential utility in the field of optoelectronic devices.

The molecular model as a learning tool in class-room instructions is significant due to its positive effect on the learning and teaching process.  Many students struggle to learn Chemistry and do not succeed.  Chemistry is the central part of all Science subjects. To make Chemistry learning easy and joyful appropriate method of class-room instructions are important.  The Chemistry of solid states and composite materials is the part of the curriculum at All India Senior Secondary School Curriculum. Students face problems in solid state Chemistry due to its abstract concepts.  To address the issue, handmade models and paper-based models are made as evidence-based learning. In this present paper attempt is made to investigate the impact of handmade paper model of unit cell and crystal lattices of solid-state Chemistry on academic achievement. The study is delimited to the students of only one school in rural area. Totally 50 students participate in the study. Sample is distributed into two groups: study group and the control group, by connecting them on the basis of the previous knowledge which is determined through pre-test. The students of the study group are taught solid states Chemistry through handmade paper models of unit cells and crystal lattices and the students of the control group are taught by using traditional chalk and board method.  Data is collected by using Test (Pre and Post). Mean standard deviation and mean differences are used as a statistical tool to analyze the data. Substantial difference between the study group and the control group of mean score on test (pre and post and retention) are tested at 0.05 level.  The handmade paper model of unit cell and crystal lattices of solid states Chemistry has significant positive impact on the academic achievement in solid state Chemistry. Based on the findings of the present study, some recommendations are made for using paper model as teaching aid for evidence-based learning in Chemistry and other core subjects to move up the students’ academic performance level.

This critical overview proposes a new concept, a charge-by-charge assembly, which consists of alternately stacked positively and negatively charged species, by introducing examples of planar anionic structures in the solid state. The preparation of planar organic anions is not easy; however, complexation of planar anion receptor molecules with inorganic anions is found to be an efficient strategy for constructing them. As suitable motifs, dipyrrolyldiketone boron complexes exhibit various receptor–anion complexes and charge-by-charge assemblies in the solid state. The concept discussed here can be applied to useful soft materials as well as crystals by modifying the anion receptors and cations.

In order to develop reliable methods for the synthesis of various 5-substituted-8-oxyquinoline derivatives for the preparation of Alq3-type complexes, we have improved the reaction conditions on some syntheses described in the literature, successfully synthesized new ligands based on quinolin-8-ol and characterized their chemical structures by NMR. Some of the synthesized quinolin-8-ol derivatives containing incorporated bulky triphenyl or tert-butyl groups showed blue luminescence in the solid state due to the possible aggregation induced emission enhancement (AIEE) with a maximum wavelength around 510 nm. More detailed light-emission property investigation of the mentioned bulky group containing compounds is currently underway.
