The research was carried out with small indigenous fish species (SIS) named mola (Amblypharyngadan mola) in monoculture system to intensify production in farmers’ homestead ponds with 50% household women involvement during June to December, 2016. Brood mola was stocked at the rate of 2, 4 and 6 m-2 with three replications in each treatment. Supplementary feed (27.1% protein) consisted of commonly available agricultural by-products was provided daily at the rate of 2% of the total biomass along with natural feed as mola is planktivorous species. Seven different water quality parameters were measured fortnightly and found within cultivable range. Gross production of mola were obtained 520.59±23.4, 599.06±258.87, 1063.94±42.87 kg ha-1 from T1, T2 and T3, respectively after 4 months’ culture period. The yield of T3 was significantly greater (P < 0.05) than T1 and T2. The highest gross production was obtained in T3 where stocking density was 6 brood mola m-2. Int. J. Agril. Res. Innov. In this article, monitoring of ballast water after its treatment by any of BWTS (Ballast Water Treatment System) on board ships has been analyzed. The efficiency of those systems has shown to be the major problem as there are no systems for tracking ship ballast operations. The overall aim of the study was to emphasize the necessity of monitoring the ballast water treatment on board ships and to propose a solution. The flow cytometry technology and applications of flow cytometers have been analyzed as well. The functionality and possibility of using this technology for detection of the treated ballast water quality has been explained. The results of the flow cytometry detection have been confirmed mathematically. The possibility of finding the remaining microorganisms in the treated ballast water has been calculated and the result was a very high percentage of 82%. The study presented in this paper aids in the understanding of how important it is for results of the ballast water treatment systems operation to be monitored since such monitoring is also in the interest of protecting the environment.

Water-quality monitoring is one of the main instruments for water-resource management. This work therefore evaluated the water quality of the contribution basin of the Sinnott water treatment plant as well as the relationship between physicochemical water parameters, and analyzed the seasonal variation of water quality parameters as a function of rainfall. The study area encompassed the contribution basin of the Sinnott water treatment plant, formed mainly by the drainage areas of the Pelotas stream and its tributary, the Quilombo Stream, located in the city of Pelotas - Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. A set of 118,368 data points for each stream was analyzed between 2007 and 2012. The following water quality parameters were evaluated: turbidity, temperature, color, pH, hardness, dissolved oxygen, organic matter, and alkalinity. Results showed that dissolved oxygen and water pH values conformed with Brazilian legislation in the 6 years evaluated. However, water color was the parameter that remained the greatest number of days above the set limits, mainly in the Pelotas Stream. Result indicates the need for conservation actions in the catchment, especially considering the importance of color for the assessment of water quality for public supply, in terms of both treatment costs and of public health. Highest values for water color, turbidity, and organic matter coincided with the occurrence of the highest rainfall values. Agricultural activities may potentiate sedimentation in the contribution basin of the Sinnott water treatment plant.
