The luminescent complexes [Cd(BIMP)2(NDC)2]n and [Zn(BIMP)2(NDC)]n (where (3-BIMP) = 3-(1H-benzoimidazol-2-yl)pyridin-2(1H)-one and NDC = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) have been synthesised under hydrothermal conditions and their crystal structures determined. [Cd(BIMP)2(NDC)2]n exhibited a 1D → 2D → 3D framework structure and [Zn(BIMP)2(NDC)]n has a 3D porous structure. Under the same excitation energy (λex = 389 nm), [Zn(BIMP)2(NDC)]n showed a stronger fluorescence emission than the free 3-BIMP ligand, the NDC ligand and [Cd(BIMP)2(NDC)2]n.

In this report presented are structure, morphology and luminescence properties of nanopowders based on gadolinium zirconium oxide (Gd2Zr2O7) doped by europium ions (Eu3+). The nanopowders were prepared using a flame combustion method, the most frequently used process due to the simplicity and low cost of the synthesis procedures and also due to the possibility of tailoring the size and morphology of particles. The produced material is suitable for various optical devices. The luminescence properties of synthesized nanopowders were characterized by emission spectra and luminescence lifetimes obtained by using the streak camera system. Moreover, emission spectra were obtained and compared for powders as-obtained and after additional annealing at 1200o C. Luminescence emission spectra clearly show peaks characteristic for the strong emission lines at 611 nm and 630 nm corresponding to the 5D0 ? 7F2 long lived transition.

A new form of NaMnAsO4, sodium manganese(II) orthoarsenate, has been obtained under hydrothermal conditions, and is referred to as the β-polymorph. In contrast to the previously reported orthorhombic α-polymorph that crystallizes in the olivine-type of structure and has one manganese(II) cation in a distorted octahedral coordination, the current β-polymorph contains two manganese(II) cations in [5]-coordination, intermediate between a square-pyramid and a trigonal bipyramid. In the crystal structure of β-NaMnAsO4, four [MnO5] polyhedra are linked through vertex- and edge-sharing into finite {Mn4O16} units strung into rows parallel to [100]. These units are linked through two distinct orthoarsenate groups into a framework structure with channels propagating parallel to the manganese oxide rows. Both unique sodium cations are situated inside the channels and exhibit coordination numbers of six and seven. β-NaMnAsO4 is isotypic with one form of NaCoPO4 and with NaCuAsO4.

CaMoO4: Eu3+ red phosphors were synthesized by co-precipitation method with H3BO3 as an additive and the relationship between H3BO3 doping amount and luminescent properties were studied. The brightness increased with increasing H3BO3 amount, the brightness of the CaMoO4: Eu3+ powder with 10 mol% H3BO3 was 3.2 times higher than that of the phosphor without H3BO3.

The new rigid planar ligand 2,5-bis(3-(pyridine-4-yl)phenyl)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole (BPPT) has been synthesized, which is an excellent building block for assembling coordination polymer. Under solvothermal reaction conditions, cadmium ion with BPPT in the presence of various carboxylic acids including (1,1′-biphenyl)-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid (BPDC), isophthalic acid (IP), and benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (BTC) gave rise to three coordination complexes, viz, [Cd(BPPT)(BPDA)](BPPT)n (1), [Cd(BPPT) (IP)] (CH3OH) (2), and [Cd3(BPPT)3(BTC)2(H2O)2] (3). The structures of 1, 2, and 3 were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The IR spectra as well as thermogravimetric and luminescence properties were also investigated. Complex 1 is a two-dimensional (2D) network and further stretched to a 3D supramolecular structure through π–π stacking interaction. The complexes 2 and 3 show 3D framework. The complexes 1, 2, and 3 exhibited luminescence property at room temperature.
