Generally, nanoparticles (NPs) are used as photocatalysts, which sometimes results in difficulties in the separation and recycling of photocatalysts from suspensions after their application in water and wastewater treatment, which hinders industrial applications of NPs that are too fine to be removed by gravitational settling. This can be solved by using support NPs to overcome these problems. -OH enrich AlO(OH), which is produced by a steam coating process, has been could be used as a possible support, because the -OH groups on the surface can interact with foreign molecules; thus, various composite functional materials can be prepared. Potassium doped titanium oxide NPs, which are produced by a wet corrosion process, namely KTiOxs, have been selected as photocatalysts, because KTiOxs have sufficient K+ ions, thereby expecting the chemical bonding with -OH group from AlO(OH). This study fabricated a novel photocataysis system made by combining KTiOxs as catalysts and AlO(OH) as the catalysts’ support, namely KTiOxs/AlO(OH) composites. The KTiOxs nanowires, obtained from 10 mol/L of a KOH solution treated with Ti and AlO(OH) at 280 °C for 24 h through a steam coating process, yielded the highest surface area and the highest photocatalytic performance.

Various techniques for forming TiO2coatings on Ti have been investigated for the improvement of the osteoconductivity of Ti implants. However, it is not clear how the oxidizing process affects this osteoconductivity. In this study, TiO2coatings were prepared using the following three processes: anodizing in 0.1 M H3PO4or 0.1 M NaOH aqueous solution; thermal oxidation at 673 K for 2 h in air; and a two-step process of anodizing followed by thermal oxidation. The oxide coatings were evaluated using SEM, XRD, and XPS. The water contact angle on the TiO2coatings was measured as a surface property. The osteoconductivity of these samples was evaluated by measuring the contact ratio of formed hard tissue on the implanted samples (defined as theRB-Ivalue) after 14 d implantation in rats' tibias. Anatase was formed by anodizing and rutile by thermal oxidation, but the difference in the TiO2crystal structure did not influence the osteoconductivity. Anodized TiO2coatings were hydrophilic, but thermally oxidized TiO2coatings were less hydrophilic than anodized TiO2coatings because they lacked in surface OH groups. The TiO2coating process using anodizing without thermal oxidation gave effective improvement of the osteoconductivity of Ti samples.

The fraction of deinked pulp for coated paper production is continually increasing, with some mills using 100% deinked pulp for the base paper. The brightness of the coated paper made from deinked pulp may be reached through a combination of more or less extensive deinking, compensated by appropriate coating, to optimize costs overall. The authors proposed general optimization methods combined with Kubelka-Munk multilayer calculations to find the most economical combination of deinking and coating process that would produce a coated paper made from DIP, at a given target brightness, while maintaining mechanical properties.

Coating color stability, as defined by changes in its solid particle fraction, is important for runnability, quality, and costs of a paper coating operation. This study sought to determine whether the size or density of particles is important in size segregation in a pigment coating process. We used a laboratory coater to study changes in coating color composition during coating operations. The results suggest that size segregation occurs for high and low density particles. Regardless of the particle density, the fine particle size fraction (<0.2 μm) was the most prone for depletion, causing an increase in the average size of the particles. Strong interactions between the fine particles and other components also were associated with a low depletion tendency of fine particles. A stable process and improved efficiency of fine particles and binders can be achieved by controlling the depletion of fine particles.

Using spectrophotometric titration technique, the processes of complex formation of some phenylazo-derivatives of methylphloroglucinol (MPG) containing hydroxo-, nitro- and nitroso-substituents were studied. The spectral criteria of neutral and ionized forms of the organic ligands in their different tautomeric forms were determined. It was detected that the complex formation is accompanied by formation of one or two chelate cycles which involve azo- or nitroso-fragments and neighboring OH-groups of the organic ligands. Different types of coordination lead to different changes in the electronic absorption spectra. The DFT-B3LYP modeling of a Ni(II) complex of α-hydroxyphenylazo MPG established the most probable coordination mode of the organic ligand: tridentate chelating dianion, distorted square coordination of Ni-cations including one water molecule.  The theoretical results are in a good accordance with the experimental data.

The goal of the research is to develop an experimental mathematical model of pan coating process effect on the biodegradable polymer and to determine optimal process parameters. The polymer solution was conducted with phosphated di-starch phosphate, polyvinyl alcohol, and polyacrylic acid and performed as material coating for the controlled-release urea fertilizer. The image analysis method has been used to determine the particle size distribution, Sauter mean diameter of the particle and layer thickness that is novel. The central composite rotatable design has been selected to determine the regression models of the process, which described the relationship between two objective variables as layer thickness, release time with angle of pan, spray flow, and coating time. The statistical analysis results indicate the fitness of model.

Using different methods of statistics, this paper aims to highlight the potential link between the antioxidant activity of flavonoids and the corresponding molecular descriptors. By calculating the descriptors (van der Waals surface (A), molar volume (V), partition coefficient (LogP), refractivity (R), polarizability (a), forming heat (Hformation), hydration energy (Ehidr), the dipole moment (mt)), together with antioxidant activities (RSA) calculated or taken from the literature, number of phenolic -OH groups and the presence (2) or absence (1) of C2=C3 double bond) for 29 flavonoid compounds and by intercorrelation between the studied parameters, the link between the number of phenolic groups grafted to the basic structure of flavonoids and their antioxidant activity was confirmed. Simultaneously, by using the chi-squared test and the intercorrelations matrix, a satisfactorily correlation coefficient (r2=0.5678; r=0.7536) between the structure of the flavonoids and their activity was obtained, fact that confirms the correlation of the antioxidant activity with the number of -OH phenolic groups.
