Light and developmental processes affect the cortical microtubule (cMT) orientation. The cMT orientation with a special regard to its chirality was analyzed under the outer epidermal cell walls in different regions of sunflower hypocotyls kept in darkness and after irradiation with blue and red light. The results show that the cMT orientation depends on the cell position along hypocotyl, but generally cMTs are oblique. The oblique orientation has defined chirality: either of Z-form (right-handed) or S-form (left-handed). In the lower region of hypocotyls the Z-form dominates. After irradiation of hypocotyls with blue light this domination has been maintained and appeared also in the upper region. In contrast, after irradiation with red light the Z-form domination has not been apparent. It is proposed that in darkness, variations of cMT orientations in the epidermis along the hypocotyl are due to developmental processes, while blue and red light affect the cMT orientation via "shifting" these processes backward and forward, respectively.

Abstract In this study, deep red emitting Mg2TiO4:Mn4+ phosphor ceramics were synthesized by the high temperature solid-state reaction method. The ceramics can be excited by the 465 nm blue light and had a narrow emission with a full width at half maximum (FWMH) value of 31 nm. The peak wavelength was located at 658 nm, which matched the most efficient wavelength for photosynthesis. The crystal field strength (Dq) and the Racah parameters (B and C) are estimated by Tanabe-Sugano diagram. The thermal conductivity of the ceramics was 7.535 W/(m·K) at room temperature, which was one order of magnitude higher than that of the traditional packaging method using silicone gel. A set of phosphor converted LEDs were fabricated by mounting the phosphor ceramics onto the 460 nm blue LED chips and the CIE coordinates can move from the blue light region to the purple light region with the thickness of the ceramic increasing. These results indicated that the Mg2TiO4:Mn4+ phosphor ceramic was suitable for plant lighting when combined with a blue LED chip.

A donor/acceptor/donor-type benzoselenadiazole-incorporated monomer was synthesized. The procedure described herein offer several advantages, including high product yields, easy purification and large scale production. Optical properties of the resulting compounds were examined by means of UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopies. The fluorescence spectra exhibit that the emission maxima of material at 419 nm belongs to blue light region.

A novel red phosphor composed of Mn4+-activated oxyfluoroniobate BaNbOF5was obtained at room temperature in air. The as-prepared phosphor showed a broad and intense absorption in the blue-light region and a bright red luminescence with a color purity of 97.7%.

Those who use convex or concave lenses should use sunglasses made from regular spectacle lenses. In this case, it uses a surface coating to block UV rays, so it is relatively vulnerable to UV protection. To this end, we developed a spectacle lens that can completely block ultraviolet light and suppress blue light by using a monomer that completely blocks the area below 410 nm and has a sunglasses function through photochromic function. A spectacle lens with photochromic, polarization and UV blocking functions was developed using a monomer with a high refractive index of 1.67. In the photochromic property, a recovery time of 2 minutes for light reaction and 5 minutes for dark reaction was obtained. Five layers of anti-reflection coating were applied to the surface of the lens to reduce the transmittance in the visible light region to 0.1 or less. ITO was applied to give an electromagnetic wave shielding function, and the thickness and conductivity of ITO were proportional to the result. The blue light emitted from the LED is reduced by more than 30% to reduce eye fatigue. UV rays were completely blocked below 410 nm.
