Abstract The high-quality potato seed availability in Indonesia always to be attempted continuously by Indonesian governments to encourage national potato production optimization. One of the efforts is through aeroponic potato seed production. The G0 (zero generation seed) aeroponic potato produces a better yield and healthier tuber compare to G0 conventional potato production. IVegRI has undertaken studies related to G0 potato aeroponic. The results have been disseminated and some of them have been adopted by the potato producers in various regions in Indonesia. The study aimed to investigate the potato aeroponic seed production in Indonesia based on the producers’ perception of the benefits and challenges. The study was conducted from April to December 2017, in 8 districts from 6 provinces, engaging 18 G0 aeroponic potato producers. Data were analyzed descriptively. The resulting study showed that G0 aeroponic producers perceived the production of G0 aeroponic potato as more profitable compared to G0 conventional. The advantages covered: the production was higher, the yield tuber was healthier and sterile, and also it could be produced anytime. Meanwhile, challenges faced were: initially investment cost was quite expensive, electricity installation frequently was unstable and, the challenge concocted a suitable potato aeroponic nutrition.

The technological process of growing potato seed material begins with the acquisition of the source material and its accelerated reproduction to the required volumes. To include new perspective varieties and hybrids in seed programs, they must be released from a viral infection. Exemption from viruses is a responsible, time-consuming and costly process that requires professionalism, but in the absence of this stage, promising varieties cannot participate in the implementation of seed programs. Only in vitro, a material thoroughly assessed with regard to the presence of pathogens, the varietal typicality and severity of the main variety distinctive features can ensure the high quality of seed potatoes in basic seed production.

Determining of the best summer planting time for obtaining the largest number of potato tubers of seed fraction with weight from 40 to 80 g is one of the main tasks of potato seed growing in the Volga delta, since the spring planting is not suitable for potato seed production. The researches were conducted with six domestic prospective varieties: Vershininskiy, Zhanna, Evgenia, Valentina, Kislovodskiy and Volzhanin, taken as a control variant. On the basis of our research, for the first time it was established the optimum summer planting time of potato – the third decade of July with plant density from 54,9 to 71,4 t/ha, ensuring the production of high-quality seed material.

The availability of a high-quality potato seed will affect the increasing of Indonesia potato production. Indonesia Vegetables Research Institute (IVegRI) attempts to produce various high-quality potato varieties. The potatoes are needed to be disseminated to users. Therefore, they could create benefits in terms of increasing farmers' production and revenue. The objective of the study was to identify West Java potato farmers' preference for the seven potato varieties that have been released by IVegRI. The survey was carried out in Garut district, West Java province, Indonesia. Total, 32 potato farmers, participated in the survey from January to September 2019. The Perceived Quality (PQ) was used to analyze data. The result indicates three potato varieties preferred by potato farmers were Dayang sumbi, Sangkuriang, and Medians, respectively. The result would be useful for the IVegRI to create better potato varieties in the future.

`Black Ruby' is the newest plum released by the USDA stone fruit breeding program at Byron. This variety has large, firm fruit that ripens in early July, about 1 week after `Santa Rosa'. Fruit has reddish-black skin and yellow flesh. Eating quality is very good. `Black Ruby' has an upright tree similar to `Santa Rosa', except that tree health and vigor are much better than `Santa Rosa'. USDA has been breeding plums for the humid Southeast for 30 years. Goals are to combine large, firm, high-quality fruit with a disease-resistant tree that will live 8 to 10 years. Most plum varieties are short-lived in our area due to disease caused by Xanthomonas, Pseudomonas, and Xylella. Most existing varieties adapted to our climate have fruit unsuitable for commercial production. Previous USDA releases include “green plum” types `Robusto' (1980) and `Segundo' (1984); a yellow plum, `Byrongold' (1985); a black shipping plum, `Explorer' (1980); and the blood-fleshed, high-quality `Rubysweet' (1989).

To receive a high-quality competitive and environmentally friendly product, you need a well-thought-out agricultural technology, high level of biosecurity and spatial isolation. To develop an effective technology for growing environmentally friendly new potatoes, in the soil and climatic conditions of the high-altitude zone of Kabardino-Balkaria, scientific work was carried out, taking into account the achievements of modern agriculture. In the conditions of the mountain zone, nature has created a clean phytosanitary zone, in which you can get high-quality, environmentally friendly products without increasing their cost. The production process in this case will exclude the control of diseases and pests that in this zone will not exceed the economic threshold of harmfulness. In potato seed production, the initial stage was the use of improved material for growing a regenerating plant from the meristem, propagated in sterile, laboratory conditions for further cloning. With such seed material that is initially free of pathogens, it is much easier to get organic products. According to various estimates, the cost of producing environmentally friendly products in agriculture is 2.5-3 times higher than the cost of traditional production, and as a result, the cost of products increases. The analysis of economic efficiency showed that the increase in net income depends on the received potato yield and the sale price of new potatoes.

In order to provide parent material for small-type triploid watermelon, this study has been carried out to induce high-quality tetraploid watermelon. We induced tetraploid plants of watermelon by treating the growing points of seedlings of a small-type yellow flesh diploid watermelon with 40, 60 and 100ml/L Oryzalin for different treating time. The autotetraploid plants were selected and identified basing on morphology, determination of the number of chloroplasts in stomatal guard cells, flow cytometry analysis and hybridization. Then we observed a stable autotetraploid material. The results showed that tetraploid watermelons could be obtained under different treatments. The most effective way was extirpating the interior leaves at the 8th day after sowing, then treating the growing points of seedlings with 100mg/L Oryzalin for 6d. The treated seedlings could all survive and the induction frequency of the tetraploid watermelon was 33.33%.
