The author analyzes the category of viability as a structural element of social adaptation of patients who underwent revisional hip replacement. Considering the process of postoperative rehabilitation, the author focuses on viability as an individual characteristic of patients, which determines the effectiveness of physical recovery and social adaptation after hip replacement. The article observes the results of an empirical study conducted on the basis of Saratov Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of Minzdrav of Russia, aimed at studying the criteria of viability and social viability of adaptation and social adaptation.

In this paper we discuss some of the properties of the matrix ( NN') of the Generalised Group Divisible (GGD) design with λ ij ; i, j=l,2. The properties are the characteristic roots, the HasseMinkowski invariant and the nonexistence theorems. Some new methods for constructing GGD designs are also given.

The forthcoming UK ban on stall and tether housing for sows will result in an increase in the use of group housing for these animals. In group housing systems, certain individuals may be particularly aggressive or bullied by others, and this may result in injury or socially induced stress. To attempt to overcome these problems we need to know the answers to questions such as whether removal of a particularly aggressive animal from a group will result in a general decrease in aggression, or whether it will simply result in other animals becoming more aggressive. Answers to these sorts of question require a fundamental understanding of pig social behaviour and individual characteristics. For example, is aggressivness a stable individual characteristic across time and situation? This research addressed these issues by examining the cross-time consistency of individual aggressiveness and social status in groups of pigs.

In completely randomized experimental designs where population variances are equal under the null hypothesis, it is not uncommon to have multiplicative treatment effects that produce unequal variances under the alternative hypothesis. Permutation procedures are presented to test for (a) median location and scale shifts, (b) scale shifts only, and (c) mean location shifts only. Corresponding multivariate extensions are provided. Location-shift power comparisons between the parametric Bartlett-Nanda-Pillai trace test and three alternative multivariate permutation tests for five bivariate distributions are included.

If rate of habituation reflects information processing speed and is a stable individual characteristic, fast habituators should habituate relatively quickly to any stimulus, and slow habituators relatively slowly. Moreover, rate of habituation should be related to the baby's tendency to explore in any common situation. To examine these inferences, 24 four-month-old infants were habituated to four stimuli (two geometric patterns and two faces) successively, in two sessions, and observed in a free-exploration situation. The number of trials required to reach criterion in the habituation situations were not correlated, but total looking times to criterion were. Also, slow habituators stayed in the exploration situation for a relatively longer time and also explored a new toy for a longer time. Methodological aspects of habituation are discussed, and an interpretation of habituation sequences in terms of cognitive style is suggested.
