Abstract. A one-dimensional model is used to investigate the relationship between land subsidence and compaction of basin sediments in response to sediment loading. Analysis of the model equations and numerical experiments demonstrate quasi-linear systems behaviour and show that rates of land subsidence due to compaction: (i) can attain a significant fraction (>40%) of the long-term sedimentation rate; (ii) are hydrodynamically delayed with respect to sediment loading. The delay is controlled by a compaction response time τc that can reach values of 10-5-107 yr for thick shale sequences. Both the behaviour of single sediment layers and multiple-layer systems are analysed. Subsequently the model is applied to the coastal area of the Netherlands to illustrate that lateral variability in compaction-derived land subsidence in sedimentary basins largely reflects the spatial variability in both sediment loading and compaction response time. Typical rates of compaction-derived subsidence predicted by the model are of the order of 0.1 mm/yr but may reach values in excess of 1 mm/yr under favourable conditions.

Handling emergency cases must not only be carried out quickly but also must be precise. Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) is one of the instruments to measure the quality of service. the number of patient visits that can affect the quality of service. Triage is a way of sorting patients based on therapy needs and available resources. Therapy is based on ABC conditions (Airway, with cervical spine control, Breathing, and Circulation with bleeding control). On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic greatly affects the response time, impacting the number of patient visits. Response time is the time between the beginning of a request being responded to in other words it can be called response time. A good response time for patients is 5 minutes. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between the number of patient visits and the accuracy of triage implementation and response time. The electronic database used is PubMed, Springer, and Google Scholar with a search strategy using the PICO (patient, intervention, comparison, and outcome) method.

Ear oximetry is widely used to detect arterial O2 desaturation during exercise in patients with cardiopulmonary disease. Although oximeters have been evaluated for accuracy, response time, and the influence of skin pigmentation, tests of their reliability have not been reported during strenuous exercise. Accordingly, we compared arterial O2 saturation (Sao2) measurements obtained by Hewlett-Packard (HP, model 47201A) and Biox II oximeters with those determined directly from arterial blood in six healthy volunteers during progressive exercise while rebreathing hypoxic gas mixtures. The relationship between the HP oximeter value and blood Sao2 was described by the equation: HP = 0.93 (Sao2) + 5.37 and for the Biox II: Biox = 0.55 (Sao2) + 38.97. With these equations, at a blood Sao2 value of 90%, the underestimation by both oximeters was less than 2%. At a blood value of 70%, the HP oximeter overestimated blood Sao2 by 0.7%, whereas the Biox II showed an overestimation of 10.7%. Below blood Sao2 of 83%, the Biox II tended to overestimate blood Sao2 by an amount greater than the error of the instrument, whereas the HP estimations were within the error of the instrument over all levels of blood Sao2 studied. We conclude that the HP oximeter provides valid estimates of Sao2 during exercise but that the Biox II oximeter, although reflecting qualitative changes in oxygenation that occur during exercise, does not provide accurate records of the degree of desaturation.

ABSTRACTThe gender and number of a direct object clitic pronoun are based on the gender and number of the noun to which it refers. Grammatical gender is an intrinsic property of the lexical item that is independent from the natural sex of referents, whereas number is a non-intrinsic feature of nouns based on the conceptual level of quantity. The aim of this paper is to investigate children's ability in matching Italian direct object clitic pronouns to an inanimate visual referent on the basis of number or gender information. The dependent variables are accuracy and response time. A total of sixty-nine children aged from 4;6 to 7;5 participated. The results show that children are more accurate and faster in selecting the referent when they use number information compared to the condition in which this matching operation is led by gender.

ABSTRACTThe properties of photoconductive ultraviolet detector based on GaN epilayer grown on 6H-SiC substrate by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition were investigated in this paper. We obtained the detectable energy span of the device up to ultraviolet by photocurrent measurement. The spectral responsivity remained nearly constant for wavelengths from 250 to 365 nm and dropped by three orders of magnitude within 10 nm of the band edge (by 380 nm). The detector was measured to have a responsivity of 133 A/W at a wavelength of 360 nm under a 5-V bias, and the voltage-dependent responsivity was performed. Furthermore, an easy method was developed to determine the response time, and the relationship between response time and bias was obtained.

Background Specialty consultation is a critical aspect of emergency department (ED) practice, and a delay in providing consultation might have a significant clinical effect and worsen ED overcrowding. Although mobile electronic medical records (EMR) are being increasingly used and are known to improve the workflow of health care providers, limited studies have evaluated their effectiveness in real-life clinical scenarios. Objective For this study, we aimed to determine the association between response duration to an ED specialty consultation request and the frequency of mobile EMR use. Methods This retrospective study was conducted in an academic ED in Seoul, South Korea. We analyzed EMR and mobile EMR data from May 2018 to December 2018. Timestamps of ED consultation requests were retrieved from a PC-based EMR, and the response interval was calculated. Doctors’ log frequencies were obtained from the mobile EMR, and we merged data using doctors’ deidentification numbers. Pearson’s product-moment correlation was performed to identify this association. The primary outcome was the relationship between the frequency of mobile EMR usage and the time interval from ED request to consultation completion by specialty doctors. The secondary outcome was the relationship between the frequency of specialty doctors’ mobile EMR usage and the response time to consultation requests. Results A total of 25,454 consultations requests were made for 15,555 patients, and 252 specialty doctors provided ED specialty consultations. Of the 742 doctors who used the mobile EMR, 208 doctors used it for the specialty consultation process. After excluding the cases lacking essential information, 21,885 consultations with 208 doctors were included for analysis. According to the mobile EMR usage pattern, the average usage frequency of all users was 13.3 logs/day, and the average duration of the completion of the specialty consultation was 51.7 minutes. There was a significant inverse relationship between the frequency of mobile EMR usage and time interval from ED request to consultation completion by specialty doctors (coefficient=–0.19; 95% CI –0.32 to –0.06; P=.005). Secondary analysis with the response time was done. There was also a significant inverse relationship between the frequency of specialty doctors’ mobile EMR usage and the response time to consultation requests (coefficient=–0.18; 95% CI –0.30 to –0.04; P=.009). Conclusions Our findings suggest that frequent mobile EMR usage is associated with quicker response time to ED consultation requests.

Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) are a promising technology for soft robotics. The use of DEAs has many advantages, including light weight, resilience, and fast response for its applications, such as grippers, artificial muscles, and heel strike generators. Grippers are commonly used as grasping devices. In this study, we focus on DEA applications and propose a technology to expand the applicability of a soft gripper. The advantages of gripper-based DEAs include light weight, fast response, and low cost. We fabricated soft grippers using multiple DEA layers. The grippers successfully held or gripped an object, and we investigated the response time of the grippers and their angle characteristics. We studied the relationship between the number of DEA layers and the performance of our grippers. Our experimental results show that the multi-layered DEAs have the potential to be strong grippers.
