The results of experimental studies of the drying of capillary-porous materials of spherical shape from the influence of the temperature of the heat carrier are given.Spherical granules with a diameter of 2,2 mm were taken to determine the rational modes of drying of capillary-porous materials. For a better evaluation of the nature of the drying process, experimental design studies were carried out on a convective drying stand in an elementary layer. The program of automatic collection and processing of information allows obtaining data on changes in the mass and temperature of the sample during the removal of moisture, and also performs calculations of kinetics of drying in absolute and relative coordinates. This makes it possible to obtain and compare the kinetic and velocity characteristics of colloid capillary-porous materials drying faster, more accurately and reliably.By the method of Krasnikov V.V. the kinetics of drying of capillary-porous materials of spherical shape with a diameter of 2,2 mm with construction of a generalized drying curve with determination and calculation of drying coefficients is considered. The generalized curve of drying rate is constructed and obtained, which allows us to generalize the process of drying of a capillary-porous spherical material. Also, get the formula and determine the overall length of the drying process through the drying rate for each heat treatment. When comparing the values of the process length obtained by experimental studies and determined by the calculations, the experimental error from the calculation does not exceed 3%.The analysis of heat-mass-exchange processes of drying by means of calculations of temperature coefficient b, Rebinder Rb criterion, heat flow q and coefficient of heat transfer α from the influence of heat carrier temperature has been carried out.

This work examines the dynamics of nonlinear large deformation of polymeric gels, and the kinetics of gel deformation is carried out through the coupling of existing hyperelastic theory for gels with kinetic laws for diffusion of small molecules. As finite element (FE) models for the transient swelling process is not available in commercial FE software, we develop a customized FE model/methodology which can be used to simulate the transient swelling process of hydrogels. The method is based on the similarity between diffusion and heat transfer laws by determining the equivalent thermal properties for gel kinetics. Several numerical examples are investigated to explore the capabilities of the present FE model, namely: a cube to study free swelling; one-dimensional constrained swelling; a rectangular block fixed to a rigid substrate to study swelling under external constraints; and a thin annulus fixed at the inner core to study buckling phenomena. The simulation results for the constrained block and one-dimensional constrained swelling are compared with available experimental data, and these comparisons show a good degree of similarity. In addition to this work providing a valuable tool to researchers for the study of gel kinetic deformation in the various applications of soft matter, we also hope to inspire works to adopt this simplified approach, in particular to kinetic studies of diffusion-driven mechanisms.

Young’s modulus (E) values published in literature for the eutectic Pb37/Sn63 and near eutectic Pb40/Sn60 solder alloy vary significantly. One reason for this discrepancy is different testing methods for highly rate sensitive heterogeneous materials, like Pb/Sn alloys, yield different results. In this paper, we study different procedures used to obtain the elastic modulus; analytically, by single crystal elasticity and experimentally by ultrasonic testing and Nano indentation. We compare these procedures and propose a procedure for elastic modulus determination. The deformation kinetics of the Pb/Sn solder alloys is discussed at the grain size level.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the kinetics of nutrient quality (Vitamin C (Vc), reducing sugar and total acidity) change of winter jujube slices that under different drying temperatures (55, 60, 65 and 70?) and different air velocities (3, 6 and 9m/s) during the air-impingement drying process. Results showed that the content of Vc, reducing sugar and total acidity decreased with increasing drying time. Furthermore, analysis of variances indicated that the drying temperature, air velocity and time had a significant effect on the loss of Vc, reducing sugar and total acidity (p<0.05). Zero order, first order and Weibull models were used to fit the experimental data, Weibull model was considered as the most suitable one to the degradation kinetics of Vc, reducing sugar and total acidity in dried samples at different temperatures and air velocities. According to the Arrhenius formula, the activation energy of Vc, reducing sugar and total acidity degradation kinetics were 63.78 kJ/mol, 36.48 kJ/mol and 153.51 kJ/mol, respectively. This research can provide some references for enhancing dried products quality in the jujube drying industry.

Drying kinetics of Malaysian Moringa oleifera leaves was investigated using a convective-air dryer. The drying parameters were: temperature (40, 50, 60, 70 °C), air velocity (1.3 m s–1, 1.7 m s–1). The drying process took place in the falling rate period and there was an absence of a constant rate period in this experiment. Six mathematical models (Lewis, Henderson and Pabis, Wang and Singh, Peleg, Page, and logarithmic) were selected for the description of drying characteristics of the leaves. The Wang and Singh model was determined as the best model based on the highest overall coefficient determinant (R2) and the lowest overall root mean square error (RMSE). The effective diffusivity (Deff ) was also calculated which was in the range of 3.98 × 10–11 m2 s–1 to 1.74 × 10–10 m2 s–1. An Arrhenius relation was constructed to determine the activation energy for the samples in the convective air dryer. The activation energy for M. oleifera leaves was 39.82 kJ mol–1 and 33.13 kJ mol–1 at drying velocities of 1.3 m s–1 and 1.7 m s–1, respectively.

Abstract The paper presents a kinetic study of solar dried mint (Mentha spicata L.) without any pre-treatment. Mint grows effortlessly in Kashmir valley but is not obtainable throughout the year because of inconsiderate weather conditions. The genus belongs to the Labiatae family and includes large varieties with different properties. A significant quality parameter is its colour. The drying kinetics of mint leaves dried in Domestic Solar Dryer in terms of colour attributes, moisture content, drying time, non enzymatic browning, water activity, rehydration ratio was studied. This study is very useful for household scale drying of mint leaves to optimize drying process and to achieve superior quality dried product at home maintaining its colour and aroma.

Malt bagasse is a by-product of the brewing industry that has high moisture making it very unstable and susceptible to fast microbial deterioration. This work evaluated drying kinetic models of malt bagasse during pneumatic transport with air flow at 30, 45 and 60?C and layout of 4.5 and 7.0 m. The results showed that the decrease of moisture from malt bagasse was favored at higher air temperature due to the higher diffusion coefficient. In the ranges measured, the values of the effective moisture diffusivity and heat transfer coefficient were obtained between 2.05?10?10 to 12.74?10?10 m2/s and 175 to 363 W/m2K, respectively. Average energy for liquid diffusion in the malt bagasse drying process was 44.30 kJ/mol. Pneumatic transport with air flow at 60?C and layout of 7.0 m reached rapidly the final moisture of 12% (w.b), which it may reduce transport costs and allow long periods of stable storage for malt bagasse. The statistical tests results showed that the experimental datas presented excellent fit using the Modified Henderson-Pabis model, in the temperature range for both layouts.
