Zusammenfassung. Fragestellung: Die Entwicklung moderner digitaler Medien, insbesondere des Smartphones, hat zu einer grundlegenden Änderung des Kommunikations- und Freizeitverhaltens von Jugendlichen geführt. Verbunden mit den technischen Möglichkeiten sind häufig Multitaskingprozesse, d. h. die parallele Nutzung mehrerer Medien nebeneinander oder mit nichtmedialen Aktivitäten wie Lernen und Arbeiten. Methodik: Untersucht werden bidirektionale Beziehungen zwischen Multitasking und kognitiven Prozessen, Auswirkungen auf die Qualität von Lernprozessen als auch mögliche negative Folgen für die psychosoziale Entwicklung. Methodik: Der vorliegende Übersichtsartikel beruht auf einer Medlinerecherche, in die vorliegende Studien und Übersichtsarbeiten im Zusammenhang mit der Nutzung digitaler Medien im Jugendlichen- und Erwachsenenalter seit 2000 eingingen. Ergebnisse: Multitasking ist involviert in spezifische neuropsychologische Verarbeitungsprozesse, vor allem des Frontalkortex und des Corpus striatum. Bis zu einer von objektiven wie individuellen neuropsychologischen Verarbeitungskapazitäten abhängigen Grenze führt Multitasking nicht zwingend zu einer Verminderung der Qualität von Arbeitsleistung. Bei objektiver wie individueller Überbeanspruchung kann es, vor allem bei jungen Kindern, zu vermehrtem Stresserleben kommen mit negativen Auswirkungen auf die psychische Gesundheit. Schlussfolgerung: Vorläufig kann festgestellt werden, dass v. a. neue Problemkonstellationen mit hohem kognitiven Anspruch ohne Multitaskingbedingungen bearbeitet werden sollten. Eine Vielzahl weiterer Studien ist notwendig im Hinblick auf eine Verbindung von Multitasking zu spezifischen Störungsbildern, insbesondere zu Suchterkrankungen und Aufmerksamkeitsstörungen (ADHS), aber auch bezüglich des Einsatzes im schulpädagogischen Bereich.

ZusammenfassungGenetische, endokrinologische, kulturelle und soziale Faktoren bewirken bei der Entstehung und Ausprägung der Adipositas umfassende Geschlechterunterschiede. Diese lassen sich sowohl in allgemeinen als auch essensspezifischen Verhaltensmerkmalen erkennen.Das Geschlecht beeinflusst die globale und regionale Hirnstruktur bei normal- und übergewichtigen Menschen. Adipositasbedingte Abweichungen betreffen vor allem das Belohnungssystem (orbito- und präfrontaler Kortex, Corpus striatum). Funktionelle Geschlechterunterschiede erfassen alle Regulationsebenen, auch die homöostatische. Geschmacksund Geruchsreize werden bei Männern und Frauen regional und graduell unterschiedlich verarbeitet. Hedonische Nahrungsreize sprechen besonders bei adipösen Frauen die Belohnungsareale des Gehirns stärker an und können durch die Regionen der Verhaltenskontrolle (OFC, PFC) weniger effizient abgeschwächt werden.Dies gibt Anlass dazu, die Adipositas bei Männern und Frauen auf homöostatischer und hedonischer Ebene differenziell zu betrachten und zu therapieren. Nicht ausreichend berücksichtigte Geschlechterunterschiede bei Adipositas könnten die potenzielle Ursache diskrepanter Forschungsergebnisse sein.

Ascorbic acid improves extrapyramidal syndromes and corpus striatal degeneration induced by dopamine-2 receptor inhibition in Wistar rats

AbstractObjectivesThe prolonged uses of fourth-generation antipsychotics have been implicated in inducing extrapyramidal syndromes characterized by the motor deficit. This was attributed to the loss of dopamine-2 receptor (D2R) signaling. However, ascorbic acid (SVCT2R stimulation) in the brain is proposed to modulate D2R activity. We, therefore, investigated the beneficial roles of ascorbic acid in improving the extrapyramidal symptoms seen in D2R loss.MethodsTwenty adult male Wistar rats of average weight 200 g were distributed randomly into four groups. The control (NS) received normal saline for 28 days, Untreated D2R inhibition group (−D2R) received normal saline for seven days and then subsequently received chlorpromazine for 21 days, D2R inhibition group treated with ascorbic acid (−D2R+SVCT2R) received chlorpromazine for 21 days and was subsequently treated with ascorbate for seven days while the withdrawal group (WG) received chlorpromazine for 21 days and subsequently received normal saline for seven days. Motor deficits were assessed using a rotarod and cylinder test. The corpus striatum was harvested, processed, and stained using H&E and Nissl stains. Cellular density was analyzed using Image J software 1.8.0.ResultsMotor deficit was observed in −D2R animals administered chlorpromazine with less improvement in WG compared to control (p<0.05) in both rotarod and cylinder test. Ascorbic acid (SVCT2R stimulation) significantly (p<0.001) improved the latency of fall and climbing attempts observed in −D2R animals. The density of basophilic trigoid bodies was significantly (p<0.001) restored in −D2R+SVCT2R group, suggesting recovery of neural activity in the corpus striatum. Moreover, the hallmarks of neuronal degeneration were less expressed in the ascorbic acid treatment groups.ConclusionsAscorbic acid putatively ameliorates extrapyramidal symptoms observed in D2R blockage by chlorpromazine in Wistar rats.

SUMMARY The distribution of neurosecretory granules in various anatomical compartments of neurosecretory axons of the neural lobe of the rat pituitary has been studied. Apart from the most anterior tip of the gland, where granules are largely restricted to undilated axons and a few 'swellings', the proportional compartmental storage of granules is essentially homogeneous for the rest of the gland: 13% of granules are found in undilated axons, 31% in axonal 'endings' (which contain microvesicles and abut the basement membrane) and 55% in axonal 'swellings' (which are devoid of significant numbers of microvesicles). These values indicate that the 'endings' contain a much greater proportion of the total number of granules stored in the neural lobe than would be predicted if the readily releasable pool of hormone were composed of all the granules in the 'endings'. Some further constraint on granule release either physiological or anatomical (e.g. the position of the granule in relation to the plasmalemma of the 'ending') must be operative.
