The Community Aerosol and Radiation Model for Atmospheres (CARMA) has been updated to apply to atmospheres of the Solar System outside of Earth. CARMA, as its name suggests, is a coupled aerosol microphysics and radiative transfer model and includes the processes of nucleation, condensation, evaporation, coagulation, and vertical transport. Previous model versions have been applied separately to the atmospheres of Solar System bodies and extrasolar planets. The primary advantage to PlanetCARMA is that the core physics routines each reside in their own self-contained modules and can be turned on/off as desired while a separate planet module supplies all the necessary parameters to apply the model run to a particular planet (or planetary body). So a single codebase is used for all planetary studies. PlanetCARMA has also been updated to Fortran 90 modular format. Examples of outer solar system atmosphere applications are shown.

A software package is presented for performing reduction and analysis of small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and ultra-small-angle neutron scattering (USANS) data. A graphical interface has been developed to visualize and quickly reduce raw SANS and USANS data into one- or two-dimensional formats for interpretation. The resulting reduced data can then be analyzed using model-independent methods or non-linear fitting to one of a large and growing catalog of included structural models. The different instrumental smearing effects for slit-smeared USANS and pinhole-smeared SANS data are handled automatically during analysis. In addition, any number of SANS and USANS data sets can be analyzed simultaneously. The reduction operations and analysis models are written in a modular format for extensibility, allowing users to contribute code and models for distribution to all users. The software package is based on Igor Pro, providing freely distributable and modifiable code that runs on Macintosh and Windows operating systems.

There is a discussion of identifying and then helping the client resolve potential pitfalls or challenges that may arise. The idea of using calendar and task list systems for organization and planning is introduced. Methods for improving adherence to ADHD medication usage are also discussed. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the client’s motivation for change and a case vignette.

The last decade has seen rapid growth in exploring the potential of continuum robots for a variety of surgical applications. The design of these robots requires unique electro-mechanical architectures of actuation units that satisfy operational requirements of precision, workspace, and payload capabilities. This paper presents the task-based design process of a compact nine degrees of freedom actuation unit for transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). This actuation unit has a unique modular architecture allowing partial decoupling of actuation, force and position sensing in a compact modular format. The derivation of task specifications based on kinematic simulations takes into account workspace, accuracy and force application capabilities for TURBT. Design considerations for supporting modularity, serviceability, sterilization, and compactness are presented. The detailed exposition of the design process serves as a case study that will be helpful for other groups interested in the development and integration of surgical continuum robots.
