The economical benefits of different irrigation strategies were assessed by long term simulation (20 years) for dry beans in Paraná, Brazil. The model BEANGRO was used to simulate crop yield and irrigation requirements assuming eight levels of irrigation threshold (20 to 90% of the remaining soil available water in steps of 10%), in addition to a level considering no irrigation. Net return was the objective function to select the optimum irrigation management strategy, assuming fixed and stochastic distributions of historical product price. The results showed that yield was significantly increased by irrigation despite a high variability for all the simulation strategies, due to variations on growth conditions over the years. Although the net return was highly variable, it was positive in 75% of the years for all strategies with threshold values higher than 30%. The strategy of irrigating the crop before the soil reaches 60% AW provided the maximum economical benefits. The high profit using this improved strategy justifies the practice of irrigation for beans in Paraná.

Abstract Colors are frequently defined by three points on the L*a*b* coordinates of the CIELAB color space, and the distance between two colors can be expressed as the total color difference ΔE. In particular with respect to reproducibility of print media color differences are an important parameter, as well as for car finishes and textile dyes. Color changes are also the result of ageing and weathering which is an issue for art objects and in the building and restoration sector. However, the subjective perceptibility of color differences depends on numerous factors and general thresholds are difficult to define. This study aimed therefore on defining tolerance levels for color changes in dependence of color tones and color tone combinations as well as their resolution. In total 30 test persons evaluated samples, which had been painted with acrylic artist colors with defined color differences (ΔE = 0–7). The test subjects realized color differences already at ΔE = 1–4 for the highest resolution. Threshold values have been identified for different tones as well as the effect of interdependencies between tones and the level of color heterogeneity between adjacent areas.

Aim: assessment of arterial stiffness (AS) in patients with abdominal obesity (AO) without arterial hypertension and low cardio-vascular risk (CVR), the analysis of AS correlation with the markers of target organ remodeling, determination of threshold values AS, combined with a high probability target organ damage. Subjects and methods. 95 normotensive patients with AO were examined (mean age 44,9±5,1 years, 72 men) by following methods: lipid and glucose level, carotid artery ultrasound with intima/media thickness estimation, echocardiography, 24-hour monitoring of blood pressure (BP) with arterial stiffness assessment, obtained by the portable recorder BPLab. Results. Subclinical arterial lesion was revealed in 37,9%, mean pulse wave velocity (PWV) was 7,6±0,6 m/s, maximum PWV – 10 m/s. PWV and central BP in aorta were higher in patients with subclinical carotid atherosclerosis (8,0±0,5 m/s vs 7,5±0,6 m/s, р

Abstract The problem of determination of threshold values of changes in stability characteristics of a river displacement ship is studied. A model and a data preparation scheme are being developed for the algorithmic implementation of the construction of curves of threshold values of lateral stability characteristics until the moment corresponding to the command given by the ship’s captain to bring life-saving appliances to a state of readiness or to use them. For the case of flooding of two adjacent hull compartments of a three-deck river passenger motor ship under the action of an external static inclining moment, illustrating data of calculations of hydrostatic characteristics and ship trim are presented, and an ensemble of diagrams of its static stability with threshold values is built. The results of the studies performed are intended for the software and hardware implementation of a digital system for active monitoring of the ship’s hull condition, predicting the development of a dangerous situation, supporting decision-making by the captain of a river vessel on the use of standard rescue equipment in the event of the threat of the ship being flooded and overturned.

<em>This study aimed to determine the effect of altitude and rainfall on the incidence of disease ( IR ) diarrhea, and to obtain threshold values of rainfall that often cause diarrhea. Determination category of normal rate of diarrhea IR is based on diarrhea IR by DINKES Bogor in the amount of 20-25/1000 population per year, while the determination of precipitation category is based on consideration of Oldeman climate classification. The results showed that there were two districts with very high levels of vulnerability i.e.  Cisarua and Cijeruk, while the other regions only at a moderate level. The negative influence of altitude (or positive influence of temperature) on the IR will be evident if the analysis is separated between in the highlands (&gt; 600 asl) and the lowlands (&lt; 600 asl). This influence is significant, especially at altitudes above 600 meters above sea level. The correlation of the precipitation is significant negative linear to the incidence of diarrhea in the district Cisarua, Cibinong, Jonggol, and Jasinga. In districts Cibinong, Jonggol, and Jasinga, precipitation should be anticipated in the range of 100-200 mm/month, where moderate IR often occurs, while in the district Cisarua, is in the range of precipitation 300-400 mm/month, where high IR often occurs.</em>
