In 2015, after documenting testimonies from Indigenous survivors of the residential school system in Canada, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released 94 Calls to Action to enable reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians. Without personal connections to Indigenous communities, many Canadians fail to grasp the depth of intergenerational impacts of residential schools and associated systemic racism. Consequently, reconciliation remains an elusive concept. Here we outline 10 Calls to Action to natural scientists to enable reconciliation in their work. We focus on natural scientists because a common connection to the land should tie the social license of natural scientists more closely to Indigenous communities than currently exists. We also focus on natural sciences because of the underrepresentation of Indigenous peoples in this field. We draw on existing guidelines and our experiences in northern Canada. Our 10 Calls to Action are triggered by frustration. The authors have witnessed examples where natural scientists treat Indigenous communities with blatant disrespect or with ignorance of Indigenous rights. These 10 Calls to Action challenge the scientific community to recognize that reconciliation requires a new way of conducting natural science, one that includes and respects Indigenous communities, rights, and knowledge leading to better scientific and community outcomes.

The present investigation explored Chinese people's attitudes toward the social practice of going “through the back door” or zouhoumen. Zouhoumen is an informal approach to achieve one’s goal through personal connections (called guanxi). We propose that Chinese people distinguish between different acts of zouhoumen and propose at least two types that differ in terms of social cognitive aspects, and that the two types evoke different perceptions of fairness that shape attitudes towards zouhoumen. Two experiments (total N = 414) provided evidence for the differentiation between facilitative zouhoumen and expropriative zouhoumen and also explore the role of type of guanxi in attitudes towards the two types of zouhoumen. Both experiments indicated that facilitative zouhoumen was less unacceptable than expropriative zouhoumen, but there were no marked differences in attitudes between zouhoumen involving expressive or instrumental guanxi. The results support a more nuanced theoretical account of a pervasive social phenomenon in Chinese society that we assume is adaptive responses to features of Chinese historical socioeconomic context.

Islamic religious education is very important for shaping character, especially in social society. In today's era, students tend not to care about society, therefore forming a good character is very important, especially in the social community in Islamic religious education itself, it teaches us that we are required to have good character as taught by the Prophet Muhammad; Allah SWT said, which means "and indeed you (Muhammad) have a noble character". Because of this, it can be concluded that the Prophet Muhammad, was sent to earth to improve the character of all human beings. Thus, the character of education from an Islamic point of view is needed, especially in Islamic educational institutions. On the occasion of 100 years of existence and activity of Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna, one may sum up the contribution of the Faculty of Theology which has existed as part of the uni- versity for 20 years. This contribution has concerned the research and teaching arenas combined with a commitment for the social community of the Wielkopolska province. What is specific of the faculty is its ability to work both on the scientific and didactic levels as well as on the church level, which requires considerable knowledge and time in order to competently combine the requirements of working at university with demands of the Catholic Church managed by the Second Vatican Council. The scientific and popular scientific initiatives in the widely understood biblical studies represent a valuable contribution to the celebration of 100 years of the Pozna university. Like other scientific disciplines, they can proudly make their own contribution to the development of sci- ence in our city, as well as the entire country. One can only hope that the present generation of sci- entists will take the baton passed to them in the relay race of generations, and will make their own contribution to the science thereby honouring Pozna as an important scientific centre in Poland.

Endogenous Rural Development is an application concept of Endogenous Regional Development in rural scale. This study portrays the progress of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta in supporting endogenous rural development in Karangdukuh Village, Jogonalan District, Klaten Regency. Continuing the progress of UIN Sunan Kalijaga 2017, this article empowers a peasant community named Sentra Peternakan Rakyat (SPR) in Kebon Wulang Reh, in Karangdukuh Village. This study was first elaborated through two FGD processes. The FGD process is the first step to understanding the expectations and mapping of SPR needs. After conducting the Particypatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) survey, the study in this article was carried out in 3 concrete actions, namely the development of ‘Cakruk Pintar’ at the SPR location, Health Promotion and Trial Learning in ‘Cakruk Pintar’. These three main variables are people’s livestock, public health, and community learning habitus. The results of the development of 'endogenous' village development in the community service process have an elaborative and collaborative spirit. The collaboration aspect is the entrance to invite practitioners so that they can generate positive reactions from the social community. Meanwhile, elaborative aspects can give birth to new dissemination from all stakeholders, partners and policy makers. Where this Participatory Action Research (PAR) village development process can succeed if there is academic sustainability, both programs can be continued or stopped.[Pembangunan Pedesaan Endogen (Endogenous Rural Development) merupakan konsep penerapan dari Pembangunan Regional Endogenus dalam skala pedesaan. Penelitian ini memotret kiprah UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta dalam mendukung pembangunan pedesaan endogen di Desa Karangdukuh, Kecamatan Jogonalan Kabupaten Klaten. Melanjutkan kiprah UIN Sunan Kalijaga 2017, artikel ini melakukan pemberdayaan pada sebuah komunitas peternak bernama Sentra Peternakan Rakyat (SPR) Kebon Wulang Reh, di Desa Karangdukuh. Kajian ini terlebih dahulu dielaborasi melalui proses FGD yang dilakukan selama dua kali. Proses FGD merupakan langkah awal untuk memahami harapan dan pemetaan kebutuhan SPR. Setelah melakukan survei Particypatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), kajian pada artikel ini dilakukan dalam 3 tindakan nyata, yaitu pembangunan Cakruk Pintar di lokasi SPR, Promosi Kesehatan dan Uji Coba Pembelajaran di Cakruk Pintar. Tiga variabel utama ini adalah peternakan rakyat, kesehatan masyarakat, dan habitus belajar masyarakat. Hasil pengembangan dari pembangunan desa ‘endogen’ pada proses pengabdian masyarakat memiliki semangat elaboratif dan kolaboratif. Aspek kolaborasi menjadi pintu masuk mengundang para praktisi sehingga dapat memunculkan reaksi positif dari komunitas sosial. sementara itu, aspek elaboratif dapat melahirkan diseminasi baru dari semua stakeholder, mitra dan pengambil kebijakan. Proverbs as concise textual structures are primarily defined as oral (folk) literary forms in which universal thoughts are expressed on the basis of individual experiences understandable to speakers of the language, i.e., of the social community in which they originated. In relation to, for example, idioms, the use of proverbs in today’s public discourse is much rarer, and proverbs in Croatian are most often recorded in printed form, while online edited lexicographic sources of proverbs are rare. Folk customs, human character and physical features, social and religious values, the relation of human and nature are the most common motives in proverbs. Male-female relationships are also the subject of numerous proverbs. Given the past times when they were created, they can be considered the source of a stereotypical image of the status of women and men in society that exists in human consciousness. Based on proverbs with the component woman, grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, girlfriend, widow, father, son, husband…, this paper will analyze proverbs with the topic of male-female relations, e.g. Ljubav daj ženi, ali tajnu odaj samo majci i sestri. (Give your love to your wife, but reveal the secret only to your mother and sister.), or proverbs referring to an individual feature attributed to a man or a woman, e.g., Kakvo drvo, takav klin, kakav otac takav sin. (Like tree, like wedge; like father, like son.)., Ženi sina kad hoćeš, a kćer kad možeš. (Marry a son when you want and a daughter when you can.). The analysis includes the following: 1. representation of proverbs in other lexicographic (printed and online sources), 2. representation of such proverbs in contemporary public discourse, 3. structural and semantic features of proverbs motivated by male-female relationships. In conclusion, the role of proverbs on the topic of male and female in the contemporary context is discussed – what is their perspective and whether the corpus has replaced traditional recorders and word of mouth today.

The economic challenge in the era of ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) is economic competition in the ASEAN countries. Consequently, efforts to improve Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) must be sustainable and should be done by synergizing among the social community, higher education, and the business community. To implement it, Jamberejo village of Kedungadem Sub-district, Bojonegoro developed assets that the social community has, that is banana bark which was able to be used as crafts that have economic value. By using Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, 57 women and higher education were invited to make crafts from banana bark to be used as a home industry business. Based on 6 samples of product, the business got a profit of Rp. 2,100,000. Return of Investment (ROI) is about 2.2 months. Then the average income level of the Jamberejo people has increased by 42.9% or equivalent to Rp. 900,000 per month. It happened after they got a mentoring program for the innovation of banana bark

Project Engage utilizes a scaffolded approach to strategic mentoring grounded in the social constructivist theory of Vygotsky. Peer mentors, a career counselor, and STEM faculty serve as three scaffolding layers of more knowledgeable others (MKOs) who are responsible for assisting the mentee in achieving his/her zone of proximal development (ZPD), a higher level of learning or understanding than could be achieved alone. Detailed information is shared in this chapter on the selection, training, and responsibilities of the peer mentors, given that they serve as the first level of scaffolding (i.e., primary mentors for the freshmen). The career counselor and Engage faculty members constitute levels two and three of scaffolding. A survey was administered to evaluate the effectiveness of the mentoring program. Results from the survey of the mentees revealed positive perceptions of the mentoring program.
