Adsorption chillers are characterized by low electricity consumption, lack of moving parts, and high reliability. The disadvantage of these chillers is their large weight due to low adsorbent sorption capacity. Therefore, the attention is turned to finding a sorbent with a high water sorption capacity and enhanced thermal conductivity to increase chiller efficiency. The article discusses the impact of selected adhesives used for the production of an adsorption bed in order to improve heat exchange on its surface. Experiments with silica gel with three commercial types of glue on metal plates representing heat exchanger were performed. The structure of samples was observed under a microscope to determine the coverage of adsorbent by glue. To determine the kinetics of the free adsorption, the amounts of moisture adsorbed and the desorption dynamics the prepared samples of coated bed on metal plates were moisturized and dried in a moisture analyzer. Samples made of silica gel mixed with the adhesive 2-hydroxyethyl cellulose, show high adsorption capacity, low dynamic adsorption, and medium dynamic desorption. Samples containing adhesive poly(vinyl alcohol) adsorb less moisture, but free adsorption and desorption were more dynamic. Samples containing the adhesive hydroxyethyl cellulose show lower moisture capacity, relatively dynamic adsorption, and lower dynamic desorption.

A Fe(III)-loaded chelating resin named Fe(III) AO PAN was prepared by immobilizing Fe(III) onto porous amidoximated polyacrylonitrile (AO PAN) obtained by modification of hydroxylamine with polyacrylonitrile (PAN), which was synthesized by suspended emulsion polymerization. The structures of PAN, AO PAN, and Fe(III)-AO PAN were characterized by infrared spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy. The performance of Fe(III)-AO PAN as the ligand exchange adsorbent to remove As(V) from aqueous solution was investigated using static equilibrium and dynamic adsorption experiments. The adsorption experiments showed that Fe(III)-AO PAN had higher adsorption selectivity for As(V) than other ubiquitous anions in nature water body such as Cl−, SO42−, HCO3−, PO43−, and SiO32−. The optimal pH for adsorption of As(V) on Fe(III) AO PAN was 2.0, with the maximum adsorption capacity of 0.55 mg/g. The As(V) adsorbed on Fe(III) AO PAN could be easily eluted with 10 BV of 5% NaCl solution (at pH = 9.0).

Immobilization of phosphonium ionic liquid (IL) onto activated carbon (AC) was synthesized via grafting and impregnated methods, and the modified materials were analyzed via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction, thermal gravity analysis, scanning electron microscope, pore structure and CO2/N2 adsorption selectivity. The effect of the gas flow rate (100–500 mL/min) and adsorption pressure (0.2–0.6 MPa) on the dynamic adsorption behavior of mixture gas containing 15 vol.% CO2 and 85 vol.% N2 was explained using a breakthrough method. By analyzing the breakthrough curves, the adsorption capacity was determined. The results show that surface functionalization of activated carbon with phosphonium ionic liquid is conducive to improving CO2/N2 selectivity, especially ionic liquid-impregnated film. The different adsorption behaviors of impregnated and grafted adsorbents are observed under various conditions. The grafted AC had better CO2 adsorption and mass transfer due to a lower blockage of pores by ionic liquid.
