The problem of low income households in Poland is quite common. As it was shown by Polish CSO extreme poverty (subsistence minimum) affects more than 7 percent of people in Poland, and at the level of the statutory criterion of poverty, nearly 13 percent (average data from the 2013). The interesting research problem is to identify the sources of widely understood income (cash and in kind) and their importance to meet the current needs of households with low incomes in connection with a wide range of extreme poverty arising from low income of households. The aim of the work is to present the results of statisti-cal analysis of the level of income from various sources affecting the ability to satisfy the current needs of the poor households. So it is going to be shown how these households cope with basic needs. The statistical analysis are made on the basis of data published by the CSO and the data from the study “Social Diagnosis”.

Many modern families face problems that hinder optimum functioning as a family or make it even impossible. Numerous overlapping adverse phenomena, including, but not limited to, unemployment, poverty, helplessness as regards childcare and upbringing matters, addictions, family violence, chronic illness or disability are reflected in prob-lems within a family. The foregoing calls for a greater support provided by social services to the multiproblem families. One of the new forms of helping the multiproblem families is family assis-tantship that was introduced under the Act of 9 June 2011 concerning family sup-port and alternative care systems. Fam-ily assistant is responsible for carrying out individualized, in-depth work with a family experiencing difficulties in fulfilling the childcare and upbringing func-tions and is responsible for supporting them during the process of change. Pro-fessional support provided by a family assistant gives a chance to many fami-lies to overcome difficulties and prevents placement of children under alternative care.

The support concept is trying to embrace common elements of upbringing and education. The relationship between the supporting person and supported person is explored by the anthropology. It emphasizes a strong “spiritual self ” and the inner experiences of the individual. However, there is lack of sufficient documentation of the best contemporary practices in this field. The support term the most common occurs in social pedagogy. Today, it is sup-ported by the social work at school and pedagogical therapy. Teaching support becomes a teaching method – emphasizes comparative pedagogy. The peda-gogy of creativity indicates that creative interests and intellectual curiosity of an ill child can be developed by a teaching content. The original ideas can always come to mind, even in disease.

In addition, it has been ana-lysed from whom and what kind of sup-port the unemployed people expect and to what extent it is relevant to their needs. The following research tools have been applied: Generalised SelfEfficacy Scale, The Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS;) in Polish adaptation by Z. Juczyński and the Questionnaire for Research on Social Support in the Case of Unemployment by K. Ślebarska. The conclusions may be useful in planning support adequate to the expectations of the unemployed.

“Victoria” Association for Women was established in 2002. Its operations focus on problems faced by women from various backgrounds, and with varied professional, legal and social status. Assistance for women struggling with difficulties involves: support in efforts to become independent, improvement of self-esteem, and finding way in the job market. The Association organizes courses, trainings as well as conferences and promotes new forms of employ-ment. The organization is an advocate for individuals (groups) marginalized in the community; its services include legal, psychological, family and career counselling. It cooperates and initiates partnerships with institutions administered by local governments, with trade unions, nongovernmental organizations and economic entities. The areas of activity include: aid and support for families facing difficulties, health care, protection of rights, counteracting unemployment, promotion of education, culture and ecology, operations fostering integra-tion and cooperation at the local and in-ternational level, promotion of tourism and recreation, public order and safety. Yet, due to its location in an old building with no elevator, the organization’s office is inaccessible for people with motor disabilities. The paper will discuss selected areas of the organization’s operation tak-ing into account findings acquired from official documents and freeform interviews with representatives of the board.

Alternative religiosity does not always offer its members a comfortable search for the transcendent. There are many reasons, on the basis of which negative consequences can result. In the first place there is a loss of identity of the individual in the movement and we should also not forget the correction or even elimination of social ties with relatives or friends.

The paper aims to draw attention to the importance of family and the need for effective prevention and thera-py as the means for solving marital cri-ses and conflicts. As a tool of effective therapy, the therapist can use modern approaches in contemporary individual and couple therapy which are based on the principles of solution-oriented therapy and which also serve the wid-ening of perspectives of the relationship, the interactions within the couple, and which also increase the competencies of clients for solving similar situations in the future. The solution-oriented therapy approach philosophy contains the assumption that any assistance pro-vided to an individual is always better if it strengthens their family as a whole. In this approach, the assistance being provided originates from cooperation with the family and draws on its internal resources. One of the strengths of this approach is understanding the family as an advisory and therapeutic partner, who participates in the setting of ther-apy objectives. This cooperation takes advantage of the strengths and resources of the family, enabling them to see their competencies and options for driving their lives. This results in a strengthened family, which is able to build favorable emotional background for its members, with extra emphasis on children. With this kind of assistance, families are then able to function independently and with minimum of external interventions.
