This study aims to describe several examples of entertainment game products and Japanese characters exported to the United States through the mukokuseki concept supported by Joseph Nye's soft power theory. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Japanese entertainment products are collected by sorting and note-taking techniques to be analyzed and described with the concept of mukokuseki and soft power in depth. Three data are found and categorized as products that have been successfully exported to the United States using the concept of mukokuseki and soft power. The three data are Super Mario Bros, Hello Kitty, and Pac-Man. Based on the results of the discussion, the successful export of the three products were supported by the creation of identity, development, and maintenance of products that fuse nationalities and focus on successful sales in the United States. The conclusion from this research is that mukokuseki can be used as a strategy in exporting cultural products, and the success of using soft power depends on developing creative and innovative products.

This research is about the analysis of linguistic features and types of news headlines in articles at New York Times. The purpose of this research is to find out the types of news headlines in the articles about coronavirus at New York Times, published in May, June, and July 2020. The research uses the descriptive method to describe the linguistic features of the news and types of news headlines. This research reveals that there are uses of simple sentences, compound sentences, and simple past in writing headlines and there are simple and multiple sentence types in writing headlines in the New York Times. The results show that headlines in the New York Times only use 2 of the 8 linguistic features, namely using common words that are easily understood by readers and using verbs on each headline even though some headlines use punctuation in writing headlines. Then, there are two types of sentential headlines, consisting of 10 multiple headlines and the rest are simple headlines.

This study is focusing in the analysis of vulgar words from the comic, Crayon Shinchan Volume 1 by Yoshito Usui. The aim of this study is to understand how the translator translating vulgar words in Crayon Shinchan comic from Japanese to Indonesian language. The method that was used is descriptive-qualitative method. The data are analyzed with Newmark’s (1988) translation theories about translation method and procedures. There are three data that was analyzed from the comic, with scenes that contains vulgar words. From the analysis we can understand that the translator used TL Emphasis translation method, and in particular the communicative translation method. The translator also used modulation and transposition procedure in translating the vulgar words, to lessen the erotic image from the words. From this study we found that the translated words are equivalent, and the writer’s thoughts are understandable by the Indonesian readers.

The focus of this study is to analyze the idiom translation strategies applied by the translator of Nicholas Sparks’ novel titled Message in a Bottle based on the idiom translation strategies provided by Mona Baker (2018). The method used in this research is the descriptive method. There is a total of 47 idioms data collected, however there are only 25 data analyzed with five idiom translation strategies found. There is, translation by a paraphrase in total 15 data (60%), the omission of a play on the idiom in a total of five data (20%), an omission of the entire idiom in total three data (12%), using the idiom of similar meaning and form in total one data (4%), and the last is translation using idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form in total one data (4%). The findings indicated that the translator applied the translation by paraphrase the most because of the problem of finding the equivalent idiom in the TL. Even so, the translator is still able to convey the message well and make the novel enjoyable to read.   Keywords: idiom, translation, strategies.

There is a lot of literary work that can be found as a reference in writing the article. In this article, the writer decided to choose film as a main resource of writing. The main reason for choosing The Virgin Suicides film is because there is a lesson that can be taken from the movie. The Virgin Suicides is a well-structured movie that tells the genesis series of successive film stories starting from authoritarian parents and emotional abuse from the parents until the effects of those behaviors on the children. Mr. and Mrs. Lisbon create rigid and strict rules causing their children to live under pressure, living with major depression, borderline personality disorder, and even the worst part, they commit suicides (suicidal behavior). In analyzing this movie, the writer uses a psychological approach because the movie is related to the psychological disorder of Lisbon sisters. In relating with that, the writer elaborates the behavior changes of Lisbon sisters as a result of parental methods which are being too over protective.. There are symptoms that Lisbon sisters show due to their suffering from psychological disorder. Due to authoritarian rules and emotional abuse from the parents, the children live under pressure causing several bad effects such as depression, borderline personality disorder, and, the worst case, commiting a suicide.

ABSTRACT There are variety of language based on speakers and their usage, such as sonkeigo, teineigo and futsugo in Japanese language. Sonkeigo, teineigo and futsugo has different uses based on context and situation. Futsugo usually use in daily conversation but teineigo dan sonkeigo are also use in daily conversation depend on context situation of the speakers.  This  article focuses on the variety of Japanese language on youtuber videos. The purpose of this study is to increase knowledge for Japanese learner in order to know what kind  of variety   Japanese japanese are use in daily communication, especially in youtuber video. The data are collect from Japan youtuber videos. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. Research approach by processing the data source that is descriptive by using descriptive method qualitatif. Based on analysis, Japanese youtuber are use futsugo and teineigo in their utterance. They use ryuukougo and wakamono kotoba in adjective, verb and also adverbial word clas. The pattern of wakamono kotoba found shortening process in the middle and the end of the word, the changes of sound in words, borrowing and the addition of i to the word that change the word class into adjectives.   Keywords : language variety, Japanese language, youtuber
