This article examines the presence of Spanish literature in the magazine Europa Letteraria (1960-65). First of all, we analyse the articles on authors who published before the Civil War, underlining how in the magazine their work is considered a political and moral model for the young generations, instead of a literary one. After this we examine poets and short fiction writers who were eliminated by the winning bando through death, prison or exile. The second part of the article is devoted to Nueva Ola: the group of young writers gathered under the banner of anti-Francoism and united by a realist poetics. Finally, we analyse the debate on censorship, focusing in particular on the case of López Pacheco.

This article provides a survey of Spanish cultural and literary references within the magazine L’indice dei Libri del mese throughout its first 15 years of existence (1984-99). Thanks to the scrutiny and analysis of 180 Spanish-themed articles, it was possible to profile the editorial line adopted by this prestigious magazine with reference to the Iberian area, as well as the attention (and disattention) paid to Spanish literature by the Italian publishing industry. Reviews have been classified by subject, period and typology, and their argumentative structures were analysed, allowing to highlight the controversial issue related to the real or presumed peripherality of Spanish literature in the Italian and European cultural context.

This article examines Italian reception of Spanish and Spanish-American theatre in the pages of Sipario, an important Italian magazine of performing arts, with particular attention to the 1970s. This is a significant period in Spanish history, characterised by the transition from dictatorship to democracy, and it is interesting to observe how the historical contingency influenced the critical reception in those years. The work focuses both on the reception of performances and on essays and contributions of a critical nature published in the journal. Through a detailed review of articles and reviews, this article intends to reconstruct a picture of the presence of Hispanic culture in this specialised magazine and offer a critical reading of it.

This article offers a survey on how Spain is discussed in the Italian press in the second half of the 20th century (the time of Franco’s death, the Transición period, the newly born democracy). In particular, newspapers such as La Repubblica and L’Unità will be analysed, as their interest for Spanish culture and literature was continuous over the years. The analysis concentrates on the press, rather than on institutional discourse and academic criticism, in order to better trace the patterns of Italian cultural reception of Spanish topics, especially when intellectuals (such as Marcoaldi) and journalists decide to ‘report on’ and ‘narrate’ Spain’s literary identity. The essay analyses a selection of articles by a number of different authors, to make perceptible the polyphonic effect of the various ‘Spains’.

In this article I will explore the presence of Spanish literature in the magazines published by ERI for Rai, both originating from national radio broadcasts: L’Approdo Letterario and Terzo Programma. My reflections take place in the perspective of outlining the profile of a wide but not popular reception of literature that emerges from the bibliographic informations contained in the reviews; the main attention will focus on the profound cultural changes between the 1950s and 1960s, when Oreste Macrì collaborated in L’Approdo.

Realidad was a cultural and political magazine of the Spanish Communist Party (PCE) which, to escape Franco’s censorship, was published abroad, under the aegis of brother parties: from 1963 to 1967 in Rome, at the Gramsci Institute, and after that in Paris until 1973. The direction at first was entrusted to the Federico Sánchez [Jorge Semprún], a militant and writer, who was soon replaced by a more orthodox party member, Manuel Azcárate. Although the magazine leaned into prolixity and initiatory language, it also offered significant articles on art and literature, written by famous intellectuals in exile, and followed with the participation of students’ and workers’ linked to the opposition movements in Spain.

This article examines the results of a research conducted within Italian literary journals of the second half of the 20th century, with the aim of verifying the presence of Spanish-speaking literature in the Italian literary field of journals. The presence of Spanish and Spanish-American literature in this cultural field could be, in fact, indicative of a greater or lesser reception of such authors by the Italian public and cultural agents. After a brief presentation of the applied methodology, the results of the research will be discussed.
