Why Extending Actions through Time Can Violate a Moral Right to Privacy

Recently, Ingmar Persson and Julian Savulescu argued that an action that does not violate a moral right to privacy cannot violate that right if it is extended over time. Specifically, they argue that a moral right to privacy does not protect against gawking or stalking. In this reply the reverse position is defended. Specifically, it is argued that their arguments fails on according to their own definition of the right to privacy. Furthermore, it is argued and illustrated by examples that this conceptual conclusion holds for many other conceptions of the right to privacy. Moreover, it is argued that Persson and Savluescu fail to recognize the privacy-related harm extended to individuals through gawking or stalking. Lastly, the article ends by sketching how the role of privacy in public and consent relates to the given examples.

Dental impaction is usually asymptomatic. In most cases it is recognized by chance by general dentists or orthodontists, when a patient arrives your office for a routine check-up. Mandibular third molars are the most commonly impacted teeth. Very few studies have been done to assess the prevalence of impacted premolars in inverted position. Kinematics of a 5-DoF 5-RRR(RR) Prototype

A fully-symmetrical 5-DoF 3R2T parallel manipulator has three rotational and two translational freedoms. It may be adopted in motion simulation for a spinal column. However, kinematics of these manipulators has not been studied very well because of their short history. To study the characteristics of these manipulators, a 5-RRR(RR) prototype is manufactured. Both forward/reverse position solution and singularity are analyzed in this paper. The work presented in this paper will be helpful for understanding the property of other fully-symmetrical 5-DoF 3R2T parallel manipulator because of their similar constraint relationship.

Autonomy and the Democratic Principle

In their important book On Democracy Joshua Cohen and Joel Rogers represent a person’s claim to individual autonomy as proceeding from his or her claim to free and equal participation in the democratic order exercising sovereignty. I argue in what follows for the reverse position: that the claim to autonomy is the more primary claim, from which derives the claim to equal membership in the democratic order.

XXIV. On the diurnal deviations of the horizontal needle when under the influence of magnets

Having been for a considerable time engaged in investi­gating different magnetical phaenomena, a suggestion of Mr. Barlow's, that the daily variation of the needle might be rendered more sensible by diminishing the directive force by means of a magnet, was received by me with much interest. He stated to me, that he proposed so to reduce the terrestrial force, that instead of the daily variation being only ten or twelve minutes, it should amount to three or four degrees, or more if necessary. In consequence of this I offered to make simultaneous observations, simply for the purpose of comparison ; but having been led to prosecute the inquiry farther than I at first intended, I think that the observations which I have made, with much care, may not be deemed unworthy the attention of the Royal Society. In making these observations, I adopted an arrangement different from that which Mr. Barlow informed me he pro­posed making use of. Instead of one magnet applied towards the end of the needle, and in the same horizontal plane with it, it appeared to me that a more equable distribution of the forces acting on the needle would be obtained, if I substitute two, and still more so if these were placed in the line of the dip. According to the manner in which I have for a long time viewed the nature of the forces which give direction to the horizontal needle, and their disturbance by other forces, it appeared to me that, by applying two magnets to the needle in the line which it would take if freely suspended by its centre of gravity, but having their poles in the reverse position to those of the needle, one above and the other below its centre, a portion of the forces acting upon the horizontal needle in the line of these magnets, or of the dip, would be destroyed; and it would therefore still be acted upon by forces in the same direction as before, but of less intensity : whereas by even applying the poles of two magnets to the corresponding poles of the needle, and in the same plane with them, the horizontal directive force of the needle would be diminished, by increasing the angle which the resultant of the terrestrial forces, and those of the magnet made with the horizon ; and which would be nearly equivalent to increasing the angle of the dip.
