Transition of reaction is a short-lived unstable molecule in a reaction which is formed in between the reaction when reactants change into products. Whereas, transition state is just the state before formation of new molecule (involves breaking of bonds of reactants and formation of new ones) Transition of reaction differs from a transition state in that the intermediate has a discrete lifetime (be it a few nanoseconds or many days), whereas a transition state lasts for just one bond vibration cycle. Intermediates may be unstable molecules (in which case they are called reactive intermediates) or highly stable molecules. The difference between them can be better described through the energy profile diagram.

In a recent article (Hope, 1969a) the author has demonstrated the theoretical relations between what psychologists call the analysis of persons and the analysis of tests. The demonstration was illustrated by an analysis of a hypothetical matrix M whose rows were called entities and whose columns were called variables. It was shown that, by combining Slater's (1964) method of spherical co-ordinate mapping with a method of numerical taxonomy suggested by the author, it is possible to perform a comprehensive and self-consistent pair of analyses whose conclusions can be read off three diagrams: a map of variables, a dendrogram of entities, and a profile diagram of the multivariate means of groups of entities.

Eco-geographic criteria for forest habitat mapping in southeastern Manitoba are presented in form of (a) an air-photo orientation key that is intended for making preliminary type lines on standard (1:15,840) air photographs and (b) a field key that can be used for checking the type lines and for independent field mapping. The ecological relations of the habitat types are summarized by tabulation (Table 1) and by a profile diagram showing the habitat types as generalized ecological series (Fig. 1).
