Objetivo: refletir acerca da assistência de Enfermagem obstétrica fundamentada na Teoria dos Cuidados, de Kristen Swanson. Método: trata-se de um estudo reflexivo que aborda a estrutura do cuidado proposta por Kristen Swanson correlacionada à prática assistencial de Enfermagem obstétrica. Resultados: a teoria dos Cuidados, relacionada aos processos que dão significado ao cuidado – manter as crenças, conhecer, estar com, fazer por e possibilitar, na prática assistencial materno infantil contribui para o fortalecimento dos fundamentos teóricos e filosóficos que amparam a assistência de Enfermagem. Conclusão: o artigo possibilitou a reflexão sobre o uso de uma teoria que abrange a estrutura do cuidado na Enfermagem obstétrica, o que contribui na significação do processo de cuidar no ciclo gravídico-puerperal.Descritores: Enfermagem materno-infantil; Teoria de Enfermagem; Processos de Enfermagem.OBSTETRIC NURSING CARE IN THE LIGHT OF KRISTEN SWANSON’S CARE THEORYObjective: to reflect on obstetric nursing care based on Kristen Swanson’s Theory of Care. Method: this is a reflexive study that addresses the structure of care proposed by Kristen Swanson correlated to the care practice of Obstetric Nursing. Results: Nursing care theory, related to processes that give meaning to care - to maintain beliefs, to know, to be with, to do for and to enable, in maternal and child care practice contributes to the strengthening of the theoretical and philosophical foundations that support Nursing care . Conclusion: the article made possible the reflection on the use of a theory that covers the structure of care in obstetric nursing, which contributes to the significance of the caring process in the pregnancy-puerperal cycle. Método: Se trata de un estudio reflexivo que se refiere a la estructura de la atención propuesto por Kristen Swanson correlacionada con la práctica de la atención de enfermería obstétrica. Resultados: la teoría de la atención, en relación con los procesos que dan sentido a la atención - mantener las creencias, conocimientos, estar con él, hacer al permitir que, en la práctica materna y el cuidado infantil contribuye al fortalecimiento de los fundamentos teóricos y filosóficos que sustentan los cuidados de enfermería . Conclusión: Artículo permitió a la reflexión sobre el uso de una teoría que cubre la estructura de la atención de enfermería obstétrica, lo que contribuye a la importancia del proceso de la atención durante el embarazo y el parto.Descriptores: Enfermería materno-infantil; Teoría de enfermería; Procesos de enfermería.

Abstract. To be a parent means to put the commitment of time and unselfish self during serving as a parent as well as spouse, part of big family, friends, and colleagues. Someone is becoming a parent because adults have been prepared to respond positively to the existing of a baby as well as strong community drive as the influence to have children. This article is aiming at describing the parental involvement in child care influenced by culture and geographical location of their living. This article is formulated using literature study on child care practices around the world. Parent is defined as individuals who provide care, protection, and guidance since the baby until growing up. During conducting their role in providing care, guidance and needs fulfillment, the parent is very much influenced by culture and geographical location. Therefore the role and parental involvement in child care practice are unique in every region/country.Abstrak. Menjadi orang tua berarti menempatkan komitmen waktu dan tak mementingkan diri sendiri selama berperan sebagai orang tua dan suami/istri, bagian dari keluarga besar, teman dan kolega. Seseorang yang sedang menjadi orang tua dikarenakan masa dewasa yakni sudah disediakan untuk merespon secara positif kehadiran bayi. Juga dukungan dan pengaruh kuat dari masyarakat agar memiliki anak. Artikel ini bertujuan menggambarkan keterlibatan orang tua dalam mengasuh anak yang dipengaruhi oleh kebudayaan dan lokasi geografis tempat tinggal. Artikel ini disusun menggunakan studi pustaka tentang praktik pengasuhan anak di dunia. Orang tua diartikan sebagai individu yang memberikan kepedulian, perlindungan dan arahan sejak bayi hingga tumbuh dewasa. Selama berperan memberi perawatan, arahan dan memenuhi kebutuhan anak, orang tua sangat dipengaruhi oleh budaya dan lokasi geografis. Maka dari itu, peran dan keterlibatan orang tua dalam praktik mengasuh anak bersifat unik di setiap daerah/negara.

Background: Early childhood care plays an important role in children’s development and provides a valuable support to young children. High quality child care can have a positive influence on children’s development.Objective: To find out the child care practices among the mothers of below five year children in a semi urban area of Bangladesh and to find its association with some important demographic variables.Materials and method: This descriptive type of cross-sectional study was conducted among 440 respondents who were selected purposively at Purba Chandra, Shafipur Upazilla, Gazipur in Bangladesh in January, 2016. A pre-designed semi structured questionnaire was used to collect data by face to face interview.Results: Majority of the respondents (72.05%) were within the age group of 16-25 years. About 25% (111) children were within 0-12 months of age. Among the respondents 280 (63.64%) were housewives and 141 (32.05%) were garment workers. Maximum mother (72.73%) herself took care of their children and only 86 (19.54%) were cared by their grandmother/father. Majority of the children (87.05%) took colostrum as their first food, 164 (37.27%) children were breast fed up to age of 13-24 months and 302 (68.64%) children received exclusive breast feeding up to 6 months. Most of the children (92.95%) were vaccinated as per EPI schedule. Among them 283 (64.32%) children suffered from disease in last 3 months and 225 (79.51%) took treatment for their illness. Among them 83 (36.89%) took treatment from quack and only 76 (33.78%) children took treatment from private doctor.Conclusion: In this study, most of the mothers did not complete their secondary education and had a lack of knowledge of child rearing practice. This study provided a vivid picture of the child care practice among mothers and could help to the concerned authority in their policy making and planning to alleviate the problem.Delta Med Col J.
