Abstract A Gram stain-negative, aerobic, motile by gliding, rod-shaped bacterial strain CAU 1569T was isolated from marine sediment on Shido Island in Incheon. It grew at 20-37°C (optimum, 30°C), pH 6.0–9.0 (optimum, 7.0), 2–6% NaCl (w/v) (optimum, 2%). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain CAU 1569T formed a distinct lineage within the type strain of Snuella. Strain CAU 1569T showed high similarity to S. lapsa JC2132T (95.8%), Mariniflexile gromovii KMM 60388T (95.5%), Aestuariibaculum marinum IP7T (95.4%), A. suncheonense SC17T (94.6%) and Yeosuana aromativorans GW1-1T (94.4%). The genome contained 57 contigs, 3,437 protein-coding gene, 3 rRNAs (5, 16, and 23S), 43 tRNAs, and with a 35.7 mol% G + C content. The isoprenoid quinone was only menaquinone 6 (MK-6). The major fatty acids were iso-C15:0, C15:1−iso G, and C17:0 iso 3-OH. Strain CAU 1569T contained diphosphatidylglycerol, aminoglycolipid, unidentified aminolipid, and three unidentified lipids. Based on phylogenetic, genomic, physiologic, and chemotaxonomic characterizations, strain CAU 1569T represents a novel Snuella species, which the name Snuella sedimenti sp. nov. is proposed. The type of strain is CAU 1569T (= KCTC 82409T = MCCC 1K05670T).

A novel bacterial strain, designated Y11T, was isolated from marine sediment at Weihai in China. Comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences demonstrated that the novel isolate showed highest similarity to Saccharicrinis fermentans DSM 9555T (94.0 %) and Saccharicrinis carchari SS12T (92.7 %). Strain Y11T was a Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, non-endospore-forming, yellow-pigmented bacterium and was able to hydrolyse agar weakly. It was catalase-negative, oxidase-positive, facultatively anaerobic and motile by gliding. Optimal growth occurred at 28–30 °C, at pH 7.0–7.5 and in the presence of 2–3 % (w/v) NaCl. The DNA G+C content was 34.4 mol%. The strain contained MK-7 as the prevalent menaquinone. The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and C15 : 1ω6c. The predominant polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and two unknown lipids. Data from the present polyphasic taxonomic study clearly place the strain as representing a novel species within the genus Saccharicrinis, for which the name Saccharicrinis marinus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Y11T ( = CICC10837T = KCTC42400T).

A novel Gram-negative, yellow-pigmented, aerobic, motile by gliding, rod-shaped marine bacterium (JLT2011T) was isolated from surface seawater. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain JLT2011T could be assigned to the genus Gramella and was most closely related to Gramella gaetbulicola , with 96.2 % similarity. The genomic DNA G+C content was 42.1 %. The predominant fatty acids were C16 : 0, iso-C15 : 0, C18 : 0 and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω6c/C16 : 1ω7c). The major menaquinone was MK-6. The major components of the polar lipid profile were phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and sphingoglycolipid. On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic and taxonomic data presented, strain JLT2011T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Gramella , for which the name Gramella flava sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain is JLT2011T ( = CGMCC 1.12375T = LMG 27360T).

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile by gliding, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped, orange-pigmented bacterium, designated strain H32-4T, was isolated from 32 m deep water of Daechung reservoir in Daejeon, Republic of Korea. Based on the nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene, the closest neighbouring type strain was Lacibacter cauensis NJ-8T with which strain H32-4T shared 98.9 % sequence similarity. The most abundant fatty acids in whole cells of strain H32-4T were C15 : 0 iso (40.6 %), C17 : 0 iso 3-OH (22.4 %), summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c; 9.3 %) and C15 : 0 (6.6 %). The predominant menaquinone was MK-7. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain H32-4T was 45.7 mol%. Thus, these combined genotypic and phenotypic data supported the conclusion that strain H32-4T represents a novel species of the genus Lacibacter , for which the name Lacibacter daechungensis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is H32-4T ( = KCTC 32395T = JCM 19172T).

A Gram-staining-negative, yellow-pigmented bacterial strain, motile by gliding, designated HME7102T, was isolated from lagoon water in Korea. The phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain HME7102T formed a distinct lineage within the genus Flavobacterium . Strain HME7102T was closely related to Flavobacterium cheniae NJ-26T (94.5 %), Flavobacterium dongtanense LW30T (94.4 %) and Flavobacterium gelidilacus LMG 21477T (94.2 %). The major fatty acids of strain HME7102T were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and iso-C15 : 0 3-OH. The major polyamine was homospermidine and the major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminolipid and two unidentified polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain HME7102T was 36.5 mol%. On the basis of the evidence presented in this study, strain HME7102T represents a novel species of the genus Flavobacterium , for which the name Flavobacterium jumunjinense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HME7102T ( = KCTC 23618T = CECT 7955T). Emended descriptions of F. cheniae , F. dongtanense and F. gelidilacus are also proposed.

A novel bacterial strain, designated DCY54T, was isolated from a field cultivated with ginseng in Yongin, Republic of Korea. Cells were Gram-reaction-negative, yellow-pigmented, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, and strictly aerobic. They were motile by gliding and produced flexirubin-type pigments. Growth occurred optimally at 25–30 °C, at pH 5.0–7.0 and in the presence of 0–1 % NaCl. The 16S rRNA sequence analysis demonstrated that strain DCY54T was most closely related to Flavobacterium defluvii EMB117T (96.9 %). The only isoprenoid quinone of strain DCY 54T was menaquinone-6 (MK-6) and the major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, one unidentified aminolipid and one unidentified lipid. The major cellular fatty acids (>15 %) were iso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH) and C16 : 0. The DNA G+C content was 33.3 mol%. Phylogenetic inference and phenotypic data supported affiliation of strain DCY54T to the genus Flavobacterium . Several physiological and biochemical tests differentiated strain DCY54T from the species of the genus Flavobacterium with validly published names. On the basis of data from a polyphasic study, strain DCY54T represents a novel species of the genus Flavobacterium for which the name Flavobacterium ginsengisoli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DCY54T ( = KCTC 23318T = JCM 17336T).

A Gram-stain-negative, oxidase- and catalase-positive bacterial strain that was motile by gliding and produced a pink pigment, designated DCY49T, was isolated from soil of a ginseng field in a mountainous region of Chungbuk province, South Korea. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain DCY49T belonged to the genus Pedobacter (93.0–96.3 % similarity). Strain DCY49T contained MK-7 as the predominant menaquinone. The major fatty acids were summed feature 3 (containing C16 : 1ω7c, C16 : 1ω6c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH), iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and C16 : 0, and the main polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of strain DCY49T was 40.5 mol%. Strain DCY49T differed from related Pedobacter species by a number of phenotypic characteristics. On the basis of data from the present polyphasic study, strain DCY49T is described as representing a novel species of the genus Pedobacter , for which the name Pedobacter ginsengiterrae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is DCY49T ( = KCTC 23317T = JCM 17338T).

A Gram-negative, non-flagellated, non-spore-forming bacterium, designated YCS-6T, that was motile by gliding, was isolated from seawater on the southern coast of Korea. Strain YCS-6T grew optimally at 30 °C and with 2 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain YCS-6T fell within the genus Tenacibaculum and was most closely associated with Tenacibaculum litopenaei B-IT, with which the isolate exhibited 95.9 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. Sequence similarity between strain YCS-6T and other members of the genus Tenacibaculum was 93.8–95.7 %. Strain YCS-6T contained menaquinone-6 (MK-6) as the predominant respiratory quinone and iso-C15 : 0, summed feature 3 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1ω7c), iso-C15 : 0 3-OH and iso-C15 : 1 G as the major fatty acids. The DNA G+C content was 32.7 mol%. Differential phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness distinguished strain YCS-6T from all other members of the genus Tenacibaculum. On the basis of our phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, strain YCS-6T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Tenacibaculum, for which the name Tenacibaculum geojense sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YCS-6T ( = KCTC 23423T  = CCUG 60527T).

A strictly aerobic, Gram-stain-negative, yellow-pigmented, non-spore-forming, motile (by gliding), rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain 15F3T, was isolated from leaf-and-branch compost. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain 15F3T was most closely related to Flavobacterium reichenbachii WB 3.2-61T and formed a distinct phyletic lineage within the genus Flavobacterium, the type genus of the family Flavobacteriaceae. Growth was observed at 10–34 °C (optimum, 30 °C) and pH 6.0–8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0). No growth occurred in the presence of ≥2 % (w/v) NaCl. Strain 15F3T reduced nitrate to nitrogen and showed catalase activity but no oxidase activity. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 and summed feature 3 (comprising C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH). The major isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone-6. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 31.1 mol%. On the basis of data from this polyphasic study, strain 15F3T may be classified as a representative of a novel species within the genus Flavobacterium, for which the name Flavobacterium banpakuense sp. nov. is proposed; the type strain is 15F3T ( = KACC 14225T  = JCM 16466T).

A novel bacterial strain, designated M2T2B15T, was isolated from fermented bovine products and was characterized by using a polyphasic approach. Colonies were reddish pink and circular with entire margins. Cells were strictly aerobic, Gram-reaction-negative, oxidase- and catalase-positive rods that lacked flagella and were motile by gliding. Flexirubin-type pigments were absent. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain M2T2B15T was related most closely to Larkinella insperata LMG 22510T (94.4 % similarity) but shared <87 % similarity with other members of the phylum Bacteroidetes. The major cellular fatty acids were C16 : 1 ω5c, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylserine, two unidentified aminophospholipids and two unidentified polar lipids. Menaquinone 7 (MK-7) was the major respiratory quinone. The G+C content of the DNA of strain M2T2B15T was 52 mol%. The phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic data presented clearly indicate that strain M2T2B15T represents a novel species of the genus Larkinella, for which the name Larkinella bovis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is M2T2B15T (=KACC 14040T =NBRC 106324T). Emended descriptions of the genus Larkinella and of Larkinella insperata Vancanneyt et al. 2006 are also proposed.
