Modified Mechanical Structure Electric Bike Design Computation and Prototype Model Implementation

The aim of this paper is to investigate the design computation and prototype model implementation of a Modified Mechanical Structure (MMS) Electric Bike (E-Bike). It is the technology that allows the vehicle to operate with the assistance of electrical energy. All conventional cars will be converted to electric vehicles (EVs) in the future. EVs will be affordable to all types of people, allowing them to fly comfortably and safely. As a result, this paper proposes a design estimate and model implementation of the MMS E-Bike with the smallest number of parts, lowest expense, and lightest weight possible. The most important parts of the designed MMS E-Bike are the battery, MMS, BLDC motor, and electronic commutator with their controller. Because of its adapted mechanical frame nature, the designed E-Bike is low in cost and weight, and it can also go up to 25 kmph. Furthermore, the rider will be able to ride the built MMS E-Bike without any pain to their bodies and should be able to sit comfortably during their journey. In comparison to the Ampere Angel and DMW Electra 20 E-Bikes, the performance of the developed model is tested under various operating conditions, as well as their battery backup.

Severe Sepsis: The Fragile Anatomy of Crude Mortality

Clinical trials of severe sepsis that target crude (total) mortality as an end point do not have sufficient power to detect differences in mortality due to the intervention. We aim to discuss the importance of including the subcomponents of crude mortality in study design; estimate how sample size requirements change based on the proportion of attributable mortality; and how minor changes from predicted outcomes can affect results. We derived statistical curves to illustrate our points.

Policing a new domestic abuse crime: Effects of force-wide training on arrests for coercive control

Objective: Following a pre-registered study design, estimate the effect of police force-wide domestic abuse training on arrests for the new crime of ‘controlling or coercive behaviour’.Methods: Using data on monthly count of arrest for controlling or coercive behaviour in 33 police forces, we used a negative binomial difference-in-difference analysis and capitalised on differences in intervention timing to undertake an event study.Results: Training was associated with a 41% increase in arrest for controlling or coercive behaviour for trained forces compared to untrained forces (IRR 1.413, 95% CI 1.235–1.617). The event study illustrated that the increase in arrests in trained forces was consistent with the timing of the training.Conclusions: Training entire police forces to understand the dynamics of domestic abuse, including the new offence of coercive control, is effective in increasing the rate of arrest for coercive control.

The Scope of Reclamation Works for Areas after the Exploitation of Rock Raw Materials

This paper proposes a framework to systematize the scope of reclamation works that optimize the agricultural, forest, aquatic, natural, economic, and cultural values of areas after the exploitation of mineral raw materials by mining. The framework describes characteristic reclamation works, which may become the basis for estimating the financial value of reclamation projects and for securing financial means for the implementation of reclamation tasks. Three phases of reclamation are represented in characteristic reclamation works. The preliminary phase includes works related to the development of design-estimate documentation. The scope of these works is the same regardless of the direction and type of post-mining facility. The technical (basic) phase is the completion of earthworks that prepare for the biological (detailed) phase, which includes introduction of biological systems into areas transformed by mining activities. The scopes of works of the technical and biological phases are different, depending on the planned function of the post-mining area and the type of material extracted.

Headframe modelling accuracy for finite element method analysis purposes

Nowadays, the growing popularity of terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) allows to obtain a point cloud of many industrial objects along with classic surveying. However, the quality and model’s accuracy in comparison to a real shape seem to be a question, that must be further researched. It is crucial especially for Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis, which, being a part of technical design, estimate the values of construction’s dislocation and deformation. The article describes objects such as headgear with steel support and 4-post headframe with steel sheers. Both supports and sheers were modelled basing on point clouds. All the models were compared to the point cloud. The differences in models’ shape were calculated and the maximal values were determined. The results’ usefulness in FEM analysis was described.

Factor-based target cost modelling for construction projects

Target value design (TVD) principles set the main guidelines for the design-estimate process that allow the efficient exploration of available construction alternatives, thereby helping construction companies to reduce cost-to-design, cost-to-build, and improve the quality of construction projects. The successful application of TVD requires a clear understanding of the interactions among construction components. The proposed target cost modelling approach introduces an algorithmic factor-based framework to advance TVD that supports the design-estimate process by examining the relationships among building components, their direct and indirect impact on project overall cost and value. Construction factors control compatibility and performance analysis among available construction alternatives. Costing factors contribute to the development of mathematical costing models capable of automatically calculating the cost of compatible alternatives. Finally, rule-based analysis, developed under an appropriate programming environment, executes alternative value analysis to develop a detailed estimate with an improved overall value for construction projects.

Theory of the synchronous motion of an array of floating flap gates oscillating wave surge converter

We consider a finite array of floating flap gates oscillating wave surge converter (OWSC) in water of constant depth. The diffraction and radiation potentials are solved in terms of elliptical coordinates and Mathieu functions. Generated power and capture width ratio of a single gate excited by incoming waves are given in terms of the radiated wave amplitude in the far field. Similar to the case of axially symmetric absorbers, the maximum power extracted is shown to be directly proportional to the incident wave characteristics: energy flux, angle of incidence and wavelength. Accordingly, the capture width ratio is directly proportional to the wavelength, thus giving a design estimate of the maximum efficiency of the system. We then compare the array and the single gate in terms of energy production. For regular waves, we show that excitation of the out-of-phase natural modes of the array increases the power output, while in the case of random seas we show that the array and the single gate achieve the same efficiency.
