Effect of the Magnetic Charge on Weak Deflection Angle and Greybody Bound of the Black Hole in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

The objective of this paper is to analyze the weak deflection angle of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in the presence of plasma medium. To attain our results, we implement the Gibbons and Werner approach and use the Gauss-Bonnet theorem to Einstein gravity to acquire the resulting deflection angle of photon's ray in the weak field limit. Moreover, we illustrate the behavior of plasma medium and non-plasma mediums on the deflection of photon's ray in the framework of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. Similarly, we observe the graphical influences of deflection angle on Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with the consideration of both plasma and non-plasma mediums. Later, we observe the rigorous bounds phenomenon of the greybody factor in contact with Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity and calculate the outcomes, analyze graphically for specific values of parameters.

In this thesis four separate problems relating to rigorous bounds on transmission, reflection and Bogoliubov coefficients are considered, divided into four separate themes: Bounding the Bogoliubov coefficients; Bounding the greybody factors for Schwarzschild black holes; Transformation probabilities and the Miller-Good transformation; Analytic bounds on transmission probabilities.</p>

Avalanches in a short-memory excitable network

We study propagation of avalanches in a certain excitable network. The model is a particular case of the one introduced by Larremore et al. (Phys. Rev. E, 2012) and is mathematically equivalent to an endemic variation of the Reed–Frost epidemic model introduced by Longini (Math. Biosci., 1980). Two types of heuristic approximation are frequently used for models of this type in applications: a branching process for avalanches of a small size at the beginning of the process and a deterministic dynamical system once the avalanche spreads to a significant fraction of a large network. In this paper we prove several results concerning the exact relation between the avalanche model and these limits, including rates of convergence and rigorous bounds for common characteristics of the model.

Minimal Zeeman field requirement for a topological transition in superconductors

Platforms for creating Majorana quasiparticles rely on superconductivity and breaking of time-reversal symmetry. By studying continuous deformations to known trivial states, we find that the relationship between superconducting pairing and time reversal breaking imposes rigorous bounds on the topology of the system. Applying these bounds to s-wave systems with a Zeeman field, we conclude that a topological phase transition requires that the Zeeman energy at least locally exceed the superconducting pairing by the energy gap of the full Hamiltonian. Our results are independent of the geometry and dimensionality of the system.

Mixed scalar-current bootstrap in three dimensions

We study the mixed system of correlation functions involving a scalar field charged under a global U(1) symmetry and the associated conserved spin-1 current Jμ. Using numerical bootstrap techniques we obtain bounds on new observables not accessible in the usual scalar bootstrap. We then specialize to the O(2) model and extract rigorous bounds on the three-point function coefficient of two currents and the unique relevant scalar singlet, as well as those of two currents and the stress tensor. Using these results, and comparing with a quantum Monte Carlo simulation of the O(2) model conductivity, we give estimates of the thermal one-point function of the relevant singlet and the stress tensor. We also obtain new bounds on operators in various sectors.

Macroscopic permeability of doubly porous solids with spheroidal macropores: closed-form approximate solutions of the longitudinal permeability

The presence of macropores and fractures significantly affects the effective transport properties of porous solids such as concrete and rocks. The dimensions of the fractures are generally large behind that of the initial porosity, so that the problem contains two porosities. The influence of the macroporosity is studied in the homogenization framework by solving at the intermediate scale, that of the macropores, a coupled Darcy/Stokes problem with the Beavers–Joseph–Saffman (BJS) interface condition. We derive analytic expressions of the macroscopic permeability in the case of an isotropic permeable matrix containing spheroidal-shaped macropores. To this aim, we consider a representative volume element (RVE) on which uniform boundary conditions are considered for the velocity and pressure fields. The local problem is written as minimum principles; kinematic and static approaches are developed to derive rigorous bounds for the macroscopic permeability. Closed-form expressions of the longitudinal permeability (along the revolution axe of the spheroid) are determined by considering a simplified RVE constituted of two confocal spheroids. They depend on the volume fraction and the eccentricity of the spheroidal macropores, the scale factor between the two porosities and the slip coefficient of the BJS model. Illustrations show the influence of these parameters.

Dual S-matrix bootstrap. Part I. 2D theory

Using duality in optimization theory we formulate a dual approach to the S-matrix bootstrap that provides rigorous bounds to 2D QFT observables as a consequence of unitarity, crossing symmetry and analyticity of the scattering matrix. We then explain how to optimize such bounds numerically, and prove that they provide the same bounds obtained from the usual primal formulation of the S-matrix Bootstrap, at least once convergence is attained from both perspectives. These techniques are then applied to the study of a gapped system with two stable particles of different masses, which serves as a toy model for bootstrapping popular physical systems.
