In this letter to Charles Rycroft, Winnicott praises Rycroft’s paper, especially the part dealing with the build-up of the idea of a whole person. Winnicott expresses his belief that clinical analysis throws light on this aspect of early ‘signs’ in the study of this subject, although to some extent, the process takes place through the content of the analyst’s interpretations.
