We find some new simple hypergeometric formulas in the footsteps of the important article by Gessel and Stanton. These are multiple reduction formulas, multiple summation formulas, as well as multiple transformation formulas for special Kampé de Fériet functions and Appell functions. The hypergeometric summation formulas have special function arguments in Q and parameter values in N or C. The proofs use Pfaff-Kummer transformation, Euler transformation, or an improved form of Slater reversion.

Abstract We develop a group theoretical formalism to study correlation functions in defect conformal field theory, with multiple insertions of bulk and defect fields. This formalism is applied to construct the defect conformal blocks for three-point functions of scalar fields. Starting from a configuration with one bulk and one defect field, for which the correlation function is determined by conformal symmetry, we explore two possibilities, adding either one additional defect or bulk field. In both cases it is possible to express the blocks in terms of classical hypergeometric functions, though the case of two bulk and one defect field requires Appell’s function F4.

Our present investigation is mainly based on the k-hypergeometric functions which are constructed by making use of the Pochhammer k-symbol in Diaz et al. 2007, which are one of the vital generalizations of hypergeometric functions. In this study, we focus on the k-analogues of F1Appell function introduced by Mubeen et al. 2015 and the k-generalizations of F2 and F3 Appell functions indicated in Kıymaz et al. 2017. we present some important transformation formulas and some reduction formulas which show close relation not only with k-Appell functions but also with k-hypergeometric functions. Employing the theory of Riemann–Liouville k-fractional derivative from Rahman et al. 2020, and using the relations which we consider in this paper, we acquire linear and bilinear generating relations for k-analogue of hypergeometric functions and Appell functions.

We review the emergence of hypergeometric structures (of F4 Appell functions) from the conformal Ward identities (CWIs) in conformal field theories (CFTs) in dimensions d > 2. We illustrate the case of scalar 3- and 4-point functions. 3-point functions are associated to hypergeometric systems with four independent solutions. For symmetric correlators, they can be expressed in terms of a single 3K integral—functions of quadratic ratios of momenta—which is a parametric integral of three modified Bessel K functions. In the case of scalar 4-point functions, by requiring the correlator to be conformal invariant in coordinate space as well as in some dual variables (i.e., dual conformal invariant), its explicit expression is also given by a 3K integral, or as a linear combination of Appell functions which are now quartic ratios of momenta. Similar expressions have been obtained in the past in the computation of an infinite class of planar ladder (Feynman) diagrams in perturbation theory, which, however, do not share the same (dual conformal/conformal) symmetry of our solutions. We then discuss some hypergeometric functions of 3 variables, which define 8 particular solutions of the CWIs and correspond to Lauricella functions. They can also be combined in terms of 4K integral and appear in an asymptotic description of the scalar 4-point function, in special kinematical limits.
