Arachidonic acid lipoxygenases (ALOXs) have been suggested to function as monomeric enzymes, but more recent data on rabbit ALOX15 indicated that there is a dynamic monomer-dimer equilibrium in aqueous solution. In the presence of an active site ligand (the ALOX15 inhibitor RS7) rabbit ALOX15 was crystalized as heterodimer and the X-ray coordinates of the two monomers within the dimer exhibit subtle structural differences. Using native polyacrylamide electrophoresis, we here observed that highly purified and predominantly monomeric rabbit ALOX15 and human ALOX15B are present in two conformers with distinct electrophoretic mobilities. In silico docking studies, molecular dynamics simulations, site directed mutagenesis experiments and kinetic measurements suggested that in aqueous solutions the two enzymes exhibit motional flexibility, which may impact the enzymatic properties.

Time migration, as opposed to depth migration, suffers from two well-known shortcomings: (1)approximate equations are used for computing Green’s functions inside the imaging operator; (2) in case of lateral velocity variations, the transformation between the image ray coordinates andthe Cartesian coordinates is undefined in places where the image rays cross. We show that thefirst limitation can be removed entirely by formulating time migration through wave propagationin image-ray coordinates. The proposed approach constructs a time-migrated image without relyingon any kind of traveltime approximation by formulating an appropriate geometrically accurateacoustic wave equation in the time-migration domain. The advantage of this approach is that thepropagation velocity in image-ray coordinates does not require expensive model building and canbe approximated by quantities that are estimated in conventional time-domain processing. Synthetic and field data examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach and show that theproposed imaging workflow leads to a significant uplift in terms of image quality and can bridge thegap between time and depth migrations. The image obtained by the proposed algorithm is correctlyfocused and mapped to depth coordinates it is comparable to the image obtained by depth migration.

Based on the the third-order aberration theory of plane-symmetric optical systems, this paper studies the effect on aberrations of the second-order accuracy of aperture-ray coordinates and the extrinsic aberrations of this kind of optical system; their calculation expressions are derived. The resultant aberration expressions are then applied to calculate the aberrations of two design examples of soft X-ray and vacuum ultraviolet (XUV) optical systems; images are compared with ray-tracing results using SHADOW software to validate the aberration expressions. The study shows that the accuracy of the aberration expressions is satisfactory.

It is well known that there are five regular (Platonic) polyhedra: the tetrahedron, the hexahedron (cube), the octahedron, the icosahedron and the dodecahedron. Each of these polyhedra has an associated dual polyhedron which is also Platonic. By considering the Platonic polyhedra to be constructed from lines, and then representing the lines in terms of both ray and axis coordinates, a further aspect of this duality is exposed. This is the duality of poles and polars associated with projective configurations of points, lines and planes. This paper shows that a line matrix may be constructed for any regular polyhedron, in such a way that its columns represent the normalized ray coordinates of the edges of the polyhedron. The (pseudo-) inverse of this line matrix may then be constructed, the rows of which represent the normalized axis coordinates of the corresponding dual polyhedron.
