Abstract Following a governmental decision to build a national earthquake early warning system (EEWS) named TRUAA, the Geological Survey of Israel has upgraded the national Israeli Seismic Network with more than 100 stations countrywide. The stations are spread mainly along the main hazardous fault systems of the Dead Sea and Carmel-Zfira, which potentially may produce Mw 7.5 earthquakes. Currently the system is shifting from the deployment phase into a testing phase in which the earthquake point-source integrated code (EPIC) EEW algorithm is used. During the deployment phase, real-time performance of the EEW algorithm has steadily improved, with alert delays (span between origin time and EEW alert time) reduced down to 3 s in some cases. We present an overview of TRUAA, the performance of EPIC during the deployment phase and during playbacks of historic events, as well as our suggested alert approach for Israel.

The neutral beam (NB) fast ion confinement in the Large Helical Device (LHD) is studied for several full field ( $B_{t}\sim 2.75~\text{T}$ ) magnetic configurations by a combination of neutron measurement and simulations. To investigate the NB fast ion confinement, we have performed a series of short-pulse NB injection experiments. The experiment results are analysed by the integrated code TASK3D-a. From this investigation, the effective particle diffusion coefficients of the tangential and perpendicular NBs are approximately $D^{\text{eff}}\sim 0.1~\text{m}^{2}~\text{s}^{-1}$ and $D^{\text{eff}}\sim 1~\text{m}^{2}~\text{s}^{-1}$ in the standard configuration. It is clarified that the NB fast ion confinement improves when the plasmas are shifted inward. Moreover, it is also found that the simulation, which considers the deuteron dilution effect due to the presence of impurity ions, can describe a neutron emission rate consistent with the measurement.

This article investigates language use in sports, and more specific how trainers address their young trainees in athletics, jujutsu, and gymnastics. The article focuses the instructions that the trainees receive when performing different exercises during training. The primary theoretical framework is Bernstein’s (1971 and onwards) concepts classification, framing, and a collective as opposed to an integrated code, concepts which are otherwise used in other contexts. Against this theoretical background, the trainers’ language use is analyzed. In brief, the results show that the trainers’ language for instructions can be described as a collective code, due to a strong classification and a strong framing. This has impact on and at the same time is the result of the trainers’ language use.
