Abstract The article presents a study of water consumption of rice crops during periodic irrigation in various interphase periods of the growing season. The experiments were carried out on a plot of 21.2 hectares in the rice-growing enterprise of the RBF “Krasnoarmeysky”. The object of the study is an intensive variety of Rapan rice of Russian selection. The subject of the study is the water regime during the growing season of rice. It was found that the transition to intermittent irrigation during the growing season of rice “germination-tillering”, “loading-flowering” and “maturation” allowed to reduce the irrigation rate by 11.4, 5.1, 1.5%, respectively, compared with traditional methods of rice irrigation. The results of harvesting rice grains showed that the average yield according to the experiment was 75.7 c/ha, which is more than in the control by 1.2 c/ha. Additional profit from increasing the yield on the experimental variants ranged from 1,440 rubles/ha to 2,880 rubles/ha, net profit - from 480 rubles/ha to 960 rubles/ha. The total economic effect of the introduction of the pulse irrigation mode into production in various interphase periods of rice cultivation ranged from 549.83 rubles/ha to 1490.71 rubles/ha.

The current  paper  has  presented  the  data  on  the efect of bio products  “Extrasol”,  “Rostok”,  “Aquamix”  and water-soluble “Aquarin 5” and  “Aquarin 9” on productivity and yield structure elements of  the  intensive winter wheat variety  “Niva Stavropoliya” and the half-intensive variety “Viktoriya” sown after oilseed fax on the fertilized felds. There has been established that the largest yields of  the variety  “Niva Stavropoliya”  (5.59  t/ha) and of  the variety  “Viktoriya”  (3.7  t/ha) were  formed under  the compound use of  fertilizers and bio products as follow: Р60К40  before sowing  (in a weedfree  fallow) and N60Р60К40  (sown after oilseed fax) + N30 in the tillering phase + N30 in the phase of head formation + “Aquamix” (0.1 l/t in seed treatment) + “Aquarin 5” (2 l/ha in the tillering phase) + “Aquarin 9” (2 l/ha in the phase of head formation). There has been identifed that the main yield structure elements of the studied varieties showed their largest values under the compound use of the bio products “Aquamix” and water-soluble “Aquarin 5” and “Aquarin 9” on  the  fertilized felds. On average  for 3 years  the variety “Niva Stavropoliya” showed  the  increase of ‘number of ears’  from 413 pcs per m2  in  the control variant, and  to 432–467 pcs per m2 in the treated variants.  the variety  “Victoria 11” had 357 pcs per m2 in the control variant and 379–415 pcs per m2 in the treated variants. In addition, in comparison with the control variants, there has been identifed an increase of other yield structure elements, namely “number of grains per head”, “grain weight per head” and “1000-grain weight”.

Goal. To evaluate breeding accessions of common tomato for major economically valuable traits, to select the most valuable ones for further breeding. Results and discussion. The article presents the results of studying common tomato accessions in the main variety trial nursery at the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture in 2011 – 2015, which were used in breeding to create new high-yielding common tomato varieties. Lines L 348 (82.5 t/ha), L 394 (77.1 t/ha), L 396 (75.3 t/ha), L 352 (75.3 t/ha), L 86 (76.5 t/ha) were the best in terms of the total yield, which exceeded those of varieties Naddniprianskyi 1 and Lahidnyi (standards) by 10 – 21 % and 19 – 30 %, respectively. The evenness of ripening in these accessions was 81 – 87 %; the fruit marketability - 83 – 93 %. New intensive variety Yuvileinyi and promising lines Preliudiia and Kometa were characterized. Conclusions. Promising common tomato lines created at the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture have a high potential performance and are adapted to the southern steppe of Ukraine, which allows using them in breeding to create new varieties of this crop, which would not be inferior to the world analogues.

Family Preservation Services, and in particular the intensive variety, have recently been attracting a lot of attention in Australia, with initiatives in at least four states. Along with the enthusiasm there has been some hostility and opposition. This paper examines the context in which the services originally developed and attempts to rationally assess their relevance for Australia.
