Novel Giant Magnetoimpedance Magnetic Field Sensor

The idea, design, and tests of the novel GMI sensor are presented, based on the compensation measurement principle, where the local ‘zero-field’ minimum of the double-peak characteristic was utilized as a sensitive null detector. The compensation field was applied in real-time with the help of microprocessor-based, two-step, quasi-Newtonian optimization. The process of material parameters optimization through Joule-annealing of chosen amorphous alloys is described. The presented results of the prototype test unit show linear output characteristic, low measurement uncertainty, and resistance against time and temperature drift.

Compulsory purchase and compensation update – 2015

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary and analysis of recent legal decisions relating to compensation for compulsory purchase. Design/methodology/approach – The paper summarises three important decisions and provide a critical assessment of each of them. Findings – These decisions provide clarification of some of the most complex aspects: the compulsory purchase compensation code. Research limitations/implications – Case law is specific to the facts of each individual case and con provide only “in principle” guidance for future compensation disputes. Practical implications – The analysis of these decisions will assist surveyors and lawyers working in the compensation field to advice clients in future compensation disputes. Originality/value – As these legal decisions have been published relatively recently there will be few other similar commentaries available.

Resolving powers of >7900 using linked scans: how well does resolving power describe the separation capability of differential ion mobility spectrometry

Enhanced measurement of high aspect ratio surfaces by applied sensor tilting

During tactile surface measurements the contact point between probing tip and surface varies depending on the local surface angle. To reduce the resulting measurement deviation on high slopes a probing principle is investigated that applies a dynamic surface dependent sensor tilt. This probing process and the logics for the angle determination have been evaluated by simulation. A test stand based on a nanometer coordinate measuring machine is developed and fitted with a rotation kinematic based on stacked rotary axes. Systematic positioning deviations of the kinematic are reduced by a compensation field. The test stand has been completed and results are presented.
