Ecological evaluation of natural water bodies in the south part of Noginscky Region Moscow District

Floristic composition of terrestrial and aquatic plants in the ecotopes of surface water bodies, Blue Lakes and Lake Biserovo, was studied to assess environmental health of aquatic ecosystems in the Moscow region. The research was carried out both in the field and in the laboratory. Blue Lakes were lacking aquatic vegetation and the dominant synusia of the following plant species was found along the coastal zone: meadow clover (Trifolium pratense L.), meadow bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), sedge coastal (Carex riparia Curt.), chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla L.), plantain (Plantago major L.), Timothy meadow (Phleum pratense L.). The vegetation cover of Lake Biserovo was patchy: submerged vegetation was most widespread, Canadian Elodea (Elodea canadensis Michx.) was the dominant species. Pure thickets of vegetation were formed only by the common American water plantain(Alisma plantago-aquatica L.), lake cattail (Schoenoplectus lacustris L.), common reed (Phragmites communis Trin.) and sedge coastal (Carex riparia Curt). It should be noted that in all the studied water bodies, the pH of the water area can be classified as very clean: Blue Lakes (7.8), samples from Lake Biserov (8.32). Water samples from Lake Biserova had the highest turbidity (11.5), which was associated with the accumulation of particles of the silt fraction of the reservoir, which began the process of eutrophication, high anthropogenic load. According to the results of a comprehensive assessment (hydrological indicators, calculation of the Mayer index) of the studied samples from the reservoirs, it was concluded that the water area of the Blue Lake had the best environmental status in the Noginsk region.

Folyóvízi üledékek nehézfém tartalmának akkumuláció vizsgálata növényekkel

A Duna országunk legnagyobb felszíni vízfolyása. A Duna, valamint árterei és holtágai ökológiai folyosóként működnek, de emellett jelentős ipari, logisztikai és turisztikai jelleggel is rendelkeznek. Köztudott, hogy a Duna forrásától kezdve a torkolatáig több ipari létesítmény is elhelyezkedik, amelyek szennyezése az elmúlt évtizedek alatt hatást gyakorolt a víz minőségére is. A kibocsátott szennyezőanyagok közül a legveszélyesebb összetevőket a nehézfémek jelentik, amelyek jelen lehetnek mind a vízben, mind az iszapos üledékben is. Ezek az elemek jelentős egészségügyi kockázattal rendelkeznek, hiszen képesek a táplálékláncon belül akkumulálódni. A kutatásunk fő célja, hogy a folyóvízi üledékekben található nehézfémek növényeken belüli akkumulációját meghatározzuk. Fő mintavételi területünk a Duna árterében található dunaújvárosi iszap meddő, amelyet 2009-ben hoztak létre a városi Szabadstrand rehabilitációja során. Méréseink során az üledék és növényminták kadmium, nikkel, ólom, króm, réz és cink tartalmát határoztuk meg. Tesztnövényként a területen megtalálható, természetes növényeket választottunk, mint lósóskát (lóromot) (Rumex patientia), angol perjét (Lolium perenne), parti sást (Carex riparia), és keserűfüvet (Persicaria maculosa). Az iszap és növényminták nehézfém tartalmának feltárását MSZ szabvány szerint végeztük el salétromsavas és hidrogén-peroxidos módszer alkalmazásával. A nehézfém koncentrációkat AAS készülék segítségével határoztuk meg. Eredményeink alapján megállapítottuk, hogy a különböző növényfajták milyen mértékben és melyik részükben halmozzák fel a nehézfémeket. Eszerint például a lósóska a szárának felső részében tudja akkumulálni a kadmiumot, nikkelt, krómot és cinket, ezzel szemben a keserűfű inkább a levelében halmozza fel ezeket az elemeket. Ezek az ismeretek hozzájárulnak ahhoz, hogy a jövőben egyes növényfajták felhasználhatóak legyenek a szennyezett területek in-situ kármentesítésében.

A multi-disciplinary macrofossil study of late glacial to early Holocene sediments from Søndre Kobberdam, Hareskovene, Denmark

During the early part of the Allerød period, from c. 13 600 to 13 330 years BP, unstable soils with a tundra-like open, treeless vegetation with Betula nana and Dryas octopetala were found around Søndre Kobberdam in Hareskovene. Open Betula pubescens woodland was not established until the middle Allerød about 13 330 years BP. During the Younger Dryas, Betula nana and Dryas octopetala spread again, and Betula pubescens almost disappeared. From the onset of the Holocene warming an open tundra landscape characterised the area. About 11 300 years BP Betula pubescens started to recolonise the region and Populus tremula and Pinus sylvetris arrived at c. 11 000 years BP, replacing the open landscape by woodland. Along the margin of the lake Carex paniculata, Carex riparia and Cladium mariscus were growing. The lake fauna included a rich and diverse fauna of molluscs that thrived in the carbonate-rich waters. We did not find any evidence for the local presence of Pinus sylvestris during the late glacial.

Dunai iszapos üledék nehézfém tartalmának akkumuláció vizsgálata növényekkel

Napjainkban a felszíni vízfolyások és azok árterei, holtágai ökológiai folyosóként működnek, emellett turisztikai szerepük sem elhanyagolható. Ahhoz, hogy ezeket a területeket fenntarthassuk a jövő nemzedékei számára, szükség van állapotuk folyamatos monitorozására, illetve javítására. Az árterek és holtágak környezeti jellemzőit elsősorban vizük és üledékük vizsgálatával tudjuk jól leírni. Terepi mintavételezéseink területe a Dunával közvetlen kapcsolatban lévő dunaújvárosi Szabadstrand üledékéből kotrással kialakított iszap meddő, amelyet 2009-ben hoztak létre. Az elmúlt évek alatt ezen az ártéren faültetés történt, de emellett jelentős gyomnövényzet is megtelepedett. Kutatásunk fő célja egyrészt az iszapmeddő nehézfém tartalmának monitorozása, másrészt pedig a rajta gyökerező növények nehézfém akkumulációjának vizsgálata volt. Az egykori folyóvízi üledéken megtelepedett növényfajok közül a lórom, vagy lósóska (Rumex obtusifolius L.), angol perje (Lolium perenne) és parti sás (Carex riparia) nehézfém tartalmának kimutatására került sor. A növényzeten belüli nehézfém akkumuláció meghatározásával ezen toxikus elemek növényi részek közötti megoszlását tártuk fel.

Small-flowered bittercress, Cardamine parviflora L. (Brassicaceae), a new species of the Croatian flora

Cardamine parviflora L. was discovered in April 2014 during the study of vascular flora and habitats in the area of Slatina (Slavonia region). It was found in a flooded forest of narrow-leaved ash, in the vicinity of the villages Medinci and Novi Senkovac. The species here grows in wet soil but partially submerged populations were also observed. It presents a new species of the Croatian flora and expands the floristic inventory of Slatina and its surroundings. Other valuable taxa have also been recorded in the area, such as Carex riparia Curtis and Ophioglossum vulgatum L.

Paleofloristic and paleofaunistic analysis of Dudváh River oxbow and implication for Late Holocene paleoenvironmental development of the Žitný ostrov Island (SW Slovakia)

Paleofloristic and paleofaunistic analysis of Dudváh River oxbow and implication for Late Holocene paleoenvironmental development of the Žitný ostrov Island (SW Slovakia)Žitný ostrov, the largest island of the Danube River (SW Slovakia) gained its present shape in the Neoholocene period. As a result of increased flood and geomorphological Danube river activity dated to 1378-1528 AD, the Lower Dudváh River was abandoned and its alluvium became a part of the Žitný ostrov. Study of a Dudváh terrestrialized paleomeander by means of pollen and macrofossil analysis provides new information about the paleoenvironments of the Danubian Plain. The meander under study was cut-off during the Sub-Boreal period when the land was mostly covered by oak-dominated mixed forest with a notable high frequency ofFagusandAbies.In low-lying depressions,Alnus glutinosaformed typical alder carrs. The largest decline of the mixed forest occurred during the Sub-Atlantic period. Until the mid-19thcentury the region was strongly influenced by shallow groundwater and periodical floods, as reflected by pollen of aquatics and marsh species. Amongst non-arboreal taxa, pollen of Cyperaceae, Brassicaceae/Cuscuta, Poaceae and Apiaceae prevailed. Local successional changes started with i) stage of abandoned oxbow still with influx of moving water, poor in both macrophytes and molluscs, ii) shallow eutrophic oxbow lake with slowly flowing or stagnant water overgrown with aquatics (Ranunculussubgen.Batrachium, Potamogetonsp.,Ceratophyllum demersumetc.) and abundant molluscs, iii) an open marsh dominated by Cyperaceae (mainlyCarex riparia) withAtriplex prostrata, supporting diverse molluscan and Ostracod fauna. Present-day habitat is a result of landscape changes, which have been associated with draining, intensified agriculture, ruderalisation and spread of invasive species.
