The construction of an underwater fiber-optic cable-based tsunami early detection system is planned to be installed in the Makassar Strait with a landing point in West Sulawesi. Land infrastructure such as a Power House (PH), a communication tower, and a Beach Manhole (BMH) is needed to sustain the system's power in order to survive. Therefore, the aim of this scientific paper is to study several alternative landing station locations in Pasangkayu, West Sulawesi and then determine the priority locations. The methods used to achieve these objectives are field observation methods and secondary data analysis based on parameters of land area conditions, environmental conditions, supporting infrastructure, social conditions and licensing systems, and marine activities. These aspects are then assessed to determine the priority of the selected location. The location selected based on the assessment carried out is ALT-02B. In succession, the three priority locations selected from the order of most priority to least priority are ALT-02B, ALT-02A, and ALT-06. This selected priority location is not necessarily the final choice location to be used in the construction of a tsunami early detection system land infrastructure because in the process there are still things to be considered and aspects that are made the main priority for consideration in making decisions.

Under authoritarian rule, Indonesia and the Philippines developed production systems to facilitate the export of films to the global exploitation and B-grade markets. Framed by the colonial relationship with the United States, independent Filipino producers in the 1950s began working with mostly American partners on diverse low-cost titles. By the 1970s, the Philippines had become the choice location for many foreign co-productions. In Indonesia in the early 1980s, a group of local producers similarly pursued exploitation production for global export as a means to generate income. Production in both countries is framed by the Manila International Film Festivals (1982-1983), which marked Imelda Marcos’s attempt to formalize the co-production industry and make Southeast Asia a new hub for co-production and export.

New doctors intending to work in the United Kingdom (UK) should complete the Foundation Programme. This two- year schedule of rotations ensures core competencies are achieved before doctors enter further training. The first foundation year (FY1) is intended for medical graduates to begin taking supervised responsibility for patient care. Completion of FY1 will usually lead to full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and automatic progression to a further year of training. Doctors take on additional responsibility in the second foundation year (FY2) and its successful completion results in the award of a Foundation Achievement of Competence Document (FACD). The FACD indicates that a doctor has achieved the competences necessary to begin one of the many core or specialty training programmes. Selection to the Foundation Programme is overseen by the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO). This organization is responsible for allocating final- year medical students to their new foundation schools. Allocation to foundation schools depends on a score achieved by each student. Applicants through the UKFPO must rank all foundation schools (Units of Application) during the online application process. The system begins with the highest- scoring applicant and assigns them their first- choice foundation school. It does the same for the second highest- scoring applicant and continues in this vein. Once the system reaches an applicant whose first- choice foundation school is ‘full’, they are assigned their second choice, and so on. Therefore, the key determinants as to whether an applicant is placed in their first- choice location are their UKFPO ‘score’ and the popularity of their chosen foundation school. The ratio of first- choice applicants to places varies every year, but some foundation schools (e.g. Oxford and those in London) are almost always oversubscribed. Therefore, it is important to understand how scores are assigned and maximize your performance on these measures. Until 2012 entry, student preferences were allocated according to two measures: 1. Position within their medical school cohort by quartile. Quartiles were determined locally by each medical school with only general guidance from the UKFPO. 2. Answers provided on an application form which asked about academic achievements but weighted most points towards short essaytype answers.

Abstract Background Little is known about the factors that influence applicants' decisions to select a graduate medical education training program. Programs may improve their recruitment by better understanding that process. Methods Following the Match for the years 2008 though 2010, an electronic survey was sent to 664 applicants to 15 Duke University graduate medical education programs. Those individuals were ranked high enough to match to Duke University but chose to match at another institution. We used quantitative and qualitative analyses to explore factors influencing candidates' decisions and to identify program and institutional improvements to better attract top candidates. Results Response rate was 63% (417/664). The quantitative analysis identified factors that were “very important” to applicants (current resident satisfaction, relationship between faculty and residents, collegiality of current residents, quantity and quality of faculty content/mentoring, faculty teaching expertise, diversity of patients and types of procedures, and location), and those that were “not important” to applicants (child care or education opportunities for children, salary, United States Medical Licensing Examination requirements, part-time training options, favorable environment for minorities or women). There were statistically significant differences among specialties. Qualitative analysis identified 3 themes as most influential in their choice: location, program relationships, and the interview experience. Conclusion The collection of 3 years of data across specialties identified factors that are important to applicants' choice of a training program. Some factors can be addressed quickly and with little effort, such as the format of the interview day. Others require programs and institutions to revisit their mission, priorities, and training culture to improve relationships between residents and faculty. Programs may wish to be more tactical in selecting the residents and faculty who meet with applicants and be more focused in planning how the interview time is used.

ABSTRACT In mammals, few DNA replication origins have been identified. Although there appears to be an association between origins and epigenetic regulation, their underlying link to monoallelic gene expression remains unclear. Here, we identify novel origins of DNA replication (ORIs) within the X-inactivation center (Xic). We analyze 86 kb of the Xic using an unbiased approach and find an unexpectedly large number of functional ORIs. Although there has been a tight correlation between ORIs and CpG islands, we find that ORIs are not restricted to CpG islands and there is no dependence on transcriptional activity. Interestingly, these ORIs colocalize to important genetic elements or genes involved in X-chromosome inactivation. One prominent ORI maps to the imprinting center and to a domain within Tsix known to be required for X-chromosome counting and choice. Location and/or activity of ORIs appear to be modulated by removal of specific Xic elements. These data provide a foundation for testing potential relationships between DNA replication and epigenetic regulation in future studies.
