A new multi spectral and panchromatic image fusion, which is based on Nonsubsampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT) and HIS transform, is proposed in this paper. First, I component was obtained from multispectral image through HIS transform. Second, coefficients were gained by fusion algorithm, which performed on I component and Panchromatic image by NSCT transform. Finally, the fusion images were received by inverse HIS transform on H and S component of multispectral image and . The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm not only preserves spectral information of original images well, but also enhances detail texture information in image fusion.

Fractal is an important method to improve effect about geochemistry and geophysics, but currently fractal theory is rarely used in the field of remote sensing. In this paper, the multi-metal mining area in Lushi,Henan,China, is selected as the studying area , and the ETM + is the data source. Using the method of MPH (Masking, Principle component analysis(PCA), Hue and saturation transform (HIS) (MPH)) extracts alteration information from the studying area. The method includes three aspects: (1) mask, (2) PCA, (3) HIS transform. Next , adopting the method of summation in the fractal theory:the pixel brightness—area model make a quantitative analysis about the extracted iron alteration form MPH. And then compare the result with the common methods of threshold selection by standard deviation (SD). It is proved in this paper that the alteration information as a geologic record of spatial distribution has not only fractal characteristics but also multi-fractal characteristics. The research results show that fractal technique is an effective method to classify alteration information of remote sensing data, and it makes up for the weakness of threshold methods and achieves better results.

After analysising the principle of nonsubsampled contourlet transform, the image fusion model based on HIS transform and nonsubsampled contourlet transform is proposed. By taking of ALOS image as an example, the image fusion of multi-spectral band and panchromatic band at the same time is carried out by different fusion methods such as the method combining HIS transform and nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT), HIS transform fusion method, principal component analysis (PCA), Brovey and static wavelet transform (SWT). By calculating the quantitative evaluation indicators of the different fused image, it is conclued that the fusion effection of static wavelet transform fusion method and nonsubsampled contourlet transform fusion method is better than the common methods such as HIS transform, principal component analysis and Brovey. In particular, the image fusion effection of nonsubsampled contourlet transform method, which betterly maintains the image spectral information while improving image spatial resolution at the same time, is superior than the fusion evaluation of static wavelet transform fusion method.
