Unveiling the Link between the Third Law of Comminution and the Grinding Kinetics Behaviour of Several Ores

As a continuation of a previous research work carried out to estimate the Bond work index (wi) by using a simulator based on the cumulative kinetic model (CKM), a deeper analysis was carried out to determine the link between the kinetic and energy parameters in the case of metalliferous and non-metallic ore samples. The results evidenced a relationship between the CKM kinetic parameter k and the grindability index gbp; and also with the wi, obtained following the standard procedure. An excellent correlation was obtained in both cases, posing the definition of alternative work index estimation tests with the advantages of more straightforward and quicker laboratory procedures.

Grinding Kinetics Study of Tungsten Ore

The European Commission (EC) maintains the consideration of tungsten as a critical raw material for the European industry, being the comminution stage of tungsten-bearing minerals an essential step in the tungsten concentration process. Comminution operations involve approximately 3–4% of worldwide energy consumption; therefore, grinding optimization should be a priority. In this study, the grinding behavior of tungsten ore from Barruecopardo Mine (Salamanca, Spain) is analyzed. A protocol based on Austin’s methodology and PBM is developed in order to study the influence of operational and geometallurgical variables on grinding kinetics. In addition to the kinetic parameters, the breakage probability (Si) and breakage function (Bij) is determined. The selection function was formulated for the Barruecopardo Mine with respect to the mill speed.

Developing the technology of feldspar raw materials pre-flotation conditioning at the Kedrovoe deposit

Introduction. When developing the technology of fieldspar raw material processing, it is essential to select efficient modes of grinding and desliming. Research aim is to develop the technology of feldspar raw materials pre-flotation conditioning at the Kedrovoe deposit as applied to the technology of JSC Malyshevskoye rudoupravlenie. Methodology. Feldspar grinding kinetics in a ball mill was determined, and useful minerals disclosure degree was determined using AXIO Imager A1m optical microscope. The optimal size of sludge in ISSN 0536-1028 «Известия вузов. Горный журнал», № 8, 2020 61 hydrocycloning has also been identified. The object of research was a representative sample of pegmatites from the Kedrovoe deposit. Results. The research results showed that the optimal grinding time is 30 minutes, the content of the +0.16 mm size class is no more than 20–22%, and the optimal class for disliming with minimal losses of feldspar is minus 40 microns. The best results for product classification were obtained at a pressure at the inlet of the hydrocyclone of 1.2 bar, a sand packing diameter of 7 mm. The solids content in the feed was 24.15%, the content of particles with a size of minus 40 microns in the drain was 96.19%. Conclusions. Investigation of feldspar raw materials grinding and desliming at the Kedrovoe deposit made it possible to obtain dependencies for the effective control of the sludge content of minus 40 microns in the hydrocyclone discharge by changing the solids content in the feed and to identify effective grinding modes.

Potential Benefits in Copper Sulphides Liberation through Application of HRC Device in Ore Comminution Circuits

The article presents results of investigations on a high-pressure comminution process carried out in the roller press device, aiming at potential improvement of effectiveness of downstream beneficiation operations. The major point of interest of the paper concerned an assessment of the useful mineral liberation in relation to the volume of operating pressing force in the press device. Obtained results of mineral liberation were compared to flotation effects and downstream grinding process in a ball mill. Environmental influence in terms of dust emission was also analysed. The feed material was crushed in the high-pressure roller crusher (HRC) device under four different values of pressing force (Fsp): 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 N/mm2. Each product then underwent the liberation analysis, together with determination the energy savings through calculation of Bond’s working index, flotation recoveries and grinding kinetics. Results of investigations showed that both the most favourable crushing results and mineral liberation level were achieved for the highest values of operational pressing force. Nevertheless, the observed effects were less than linear together with further increasing of Fsp in HRC device. However, the obtained results of investigation unambiguously showed that pressing force affects the obtained crushing results: comminution degrees and flotation recoveries were higher while the duration of downstream grinding operation and grinding energy consumption were lower.

Quartz grinding specific rate of breakage (Sj) classification by discriminant analysis

Specific rate of breakage (Sj) is an important parameter for grinding kinetics behavior due to it isreverserelated with the process energy consumption. Size grinding media, viscosity medium, and fine particle formation are some ofmodifiablevariableforto reduce the energy in the grinding process.Nowadays, there is no model that explains the relationship among Sj and parameters described above.Aclassification model based on linear discriminant analysisfor quartz wet grinding wasproposedto identify conditions with the high Sj.Three grinding kinetic behavior groups have been found through cluster analysis and two discriminant functions that explicate difference among groups. The first function was themost powerful differentiating dimension with 89.01% of prediction percentage,and the second onerepresented an additional significant dimension with 10.99%of prediction.
