Food Product Development: From the Consumers Aspect

Product development involves the design activities of “new” products as well as the functionalization of the valid ones. This concept is highly associated with the demand of the consumers towards the product such as health promotion or sensory attraction. Moreover, consumers are the decider of product survival in the market. Therefore, with the sensory testing, we assess the consumers’ response which indicates the market success of the developed food. Hence, a food developer who comes up with a new product idea (including new and functionalization of the current one) needs to make sure of the consumer acceptance via sensory evaluation tasks. Sensory evaluation practices are usually the final and the determinant step of product success and acceptance. A comprehensive sensory practice should be well structured in terms of technical assessment as well as correct panelist group selection to be representative enough to give consumer’s response. Even though this aim sound to be a straight forward concept, the eating activity is quite complex and dynamic to mimic on the selected panelists as a consumer. So far, investigators collected enough data to understand only some of the senses however, sensory understanding of the several sense involving parameters like texture and aroma is still uncovered. This talk is established to understand the importance of the sensory approach which is done in practice to decide on the new/functionalized product to be placed in the market or not for business success.

Strategic Architecture in Poultry Company

The purpose of this study is to identify factors in the external environment affecting the poultry industry, analyze the business integration process of the company and know its internal factors, analyze the future of the poultry industry in Indonesia and formulate the strategic architecture of PT Sierad Produce Tbk (SIPD) and its priority importance. Respondents in this study were determined using purposive sampling method. While the research method used is descriptive-qualitative with case study approach and using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) as priority determination of interest.. The results of the research are several alternative SIPD strategy based on the main objective of the company, that is maximizing corporate integration, product development and market development. A strategic map as a strategic architecture design lane is created to illustrate the execution time of each alternative strategy. The business integration process at SIPD is currently not optimally developed, meaning that every stage of the production process is still a profit center. Achieving institutional markets with a contractual approach proves to ensure product survival.

Capability Stretching in Product Innovation

Product innovation is conventionally treated as a mechanism for organizations to renew their product portfolios. In this paper, we suggest that product innovation not only enables organizations to introduce new products to the market but also challenges organizations to renew their technological capabilities. Capability stretching is the degree to which an organization extends its technological capabilities to bridge the gap between what it has already known and what the development of a new product requires it to know. Capability stretching can be challenging because it involves the acquisition and assimilation of new and distant knowledge. Drawing on a longitudinal study of product introductions in the workstation industry, we find that capability stretching reduces the chance of new product survival. Furthermore, we also find that organizational boundaries moderate the negative relationship between capability stretching and product survival: Vertical integration exacerbates this negative relationship, whereas horizontal boundary mitigates this negative relationship. However, capability stretching can also be rewarding, as it renews technological capabilities and therefore facilitates adaptation to technological changes. We draw implications for the linkages between product innovation and capability development.

Simple Flip Chip Analysis Strategies

Recent customer demands and advances in technology are expanding the use of flip chip ICs. The higher coefficients of thermal expansion differences and fragile nature of assemblies have made underfilling mandatory for product survival in the field. This article describes a few techniques employed for failure analysis of these complex devices: epoxy development, substrate pre-encapsulation, universal polishing media, cyanoacrylate use, substrate analysis, plan view sectioning/inspection, die backside polishing for infra-red inspection, and chemical deprocessing. Almost all of the techniques presented will involve traditional cross sectioning tools which can be applied to flip chips. These techniques include improvements to the traditional material analysis cross section as well as aids for die level electrical analysis and visual inspection methods. The article demonstrates that with the use of the described techniques, and literally no investment, any lab which can presently perform semiconductor related cross-sections, will be able to confidently expand into flip chips.
